The Amounts of the Electromagnetic Wave Penetrating From a Cellular Phone under the Conditions of Wearing - Inside the Pocket of Men's Dress shirt -
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 13, issue 2, 2002, Pages 1~11
This study was conducted to estimate the amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating from a cellular phone in a pocket of dress shirt, as well as to test how different the penetration amounts were under the conditions of wearing. It was also investigated the possibilities that the amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating could be decreased by using twofold pocket or electromagnetic wave free fabric. The amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating were measured in the following five cases; one-layered pocket with 10 different fabrics as dress shirt, a pocket adding a layer of knitted cotton, two-layered pocket with same fabric as dress shirt, two-layered pocket adding a layer of knitted cotton, and one-layered pocket adding a layer of electromagnetic wave free fabric. Each of these five cases were measured using the front and back sides of a cellular phone facing to the body. The results were as follows; 1) The amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating were not significantly different in 10 different fabrics and were all above the caution range (0.02mW/
). 2) The amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating in cases of the back side of the cellular phone to the body, were more than in cases of the front side. 3) There is a significantly differences in part on adding a knitted under wear to one and two layers of the pocket in the case of penetration amount under the wearing conditions. 4) The amounts of the electromagnetic wave penetrating in cases of adding a layer of electromagnetic wave free fabric, were close to the safe standard value of it. The above results suggested that facing the front side of cellular phone to the body and using extra layering with some electromagnetic wave free fabrics might have some protective effects again to the penetration amounts.
A survey on the Teenagers′Preference to Agricultural Commodities as Gifts for Commemorative Events
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 13, issue 2, 2002, Pages 13~24
The purposes of this study are
to define the characteristics of teenagers' activities related to buying gifts for commemorative events,
to provide useful guidance for farmers who commercialize agricultural products. This data was given from 288 students of middle and high school located in Gang-nam region of Seoul during 5.15~17, 2001. The major results have shown that 74% of the respondents had high interest in events, and 34% of them had given gifts to someone in that events of this year, and 89% of them bought chocolates and candies for presents. Most of them bought the presents for their friends including the same or the opposite sex (73%), and they preferred to goods which were packaged well. The best preferences among agricultural commodities by sorts were Kkul-tteok, In-jeol-mi, Glutinous rice cake, in kinds of rice cakes, Yak-gwa, Gang-Jeong, San-Ja in kinds of Han-gwa, Sik-hye in kinds of processed foods, and wild flower perfume or herb products in other kinds of processed products. on the basis of these results, it is proposed that various agricultural commodity gifts for teenager should be developed and popularized.
Sensory Evaluations of Characteristics in Toha-Jeot Added Mustard Leaf Kimchi during the Fermentation - By Koreans and Japanese in Jeonnam Province -
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 13, issue 2, 2002, Pages 25~36
The purpose of this study is to investigate the sensory characteristics of Toha-jeot added mustard leaf kimchi by Koreans and Japanese in Jeonnam Province. The sensory evaluation was conducted for the following 9 items such as color, savory taste, carbonated taste, sour taste, hot taste, salty taste, off flavor, texture and overall preference. The test was done by the group of kimchi was tested by Koreans or Japanese with the age from 30 to 50 years, and each group contained 20~25 evaluators. Kimchi at different stages of fermentation day 0, 10 and 18th during fermentation at
for 4weeks was evaluated. During the fermentation period saltiness of kimchi was 2.25~1.77% and pH of kimchis was decreased from pH 5.6~5.8 to 4.2~4.6. The score for the sour taste, texture and overall preference of Toha-jeot added mustard leaf kimch increased as the fermentation proceeded in Japanese group. The overall preference of Korean and Japanese groups for Toha-jeot added mustard leaf kimchi was higher than that of control mustard leaf kimchi tested at 10th and 18th days fermentation.
The Dietary Behavior, Nutrient Intakes, and Different Stresses Between University Students and Teachers in Kyunggi-do
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 13, issue 2, 2002, Pages 37~51
This study was performed to investigate the degree of different stresses and to search the influence of food habit and nutrient intakes at stress situation in university students and secondary school teachers. The data was collected by questionnaire method and searched nutrient intakes by 24 hours recall. The subjects were 282 students and 152 high school teacher in Kyunggi do. Physical status was no difference with two groups. Energy intake of teachers was lower than that of students, but the intakes of vitamin A and C were high in teachers' group. The university students had more stress situation than teachers in almost kind of stresses except overload stress. Self-diagnosed dietary habits were better in the group of teacher. Especially smoke and alcohol drink behavior were correlated with nutrient intakes in male teachers and students. The quantity of nutrient of nutrient intakes was correlated with different kind of stress. The stress of life event was correlated with the intakes of carbohydrate, minerals, thiamin and riboflavin, and the deprivation was with iron and vitamin A in teachers' group. The intake of almost nutrients was correlated with the stress of noise in students' group. By the analysis of stepwise multiple regression, although the
values were very low, vitamin C intake was influenced in the factor at the stress of life events(
=0.030) and noise(
=0.020), thiamin was at food induced stress (
=0.021) and vitamin A was at the stress of type A behavior(
=0.022) and anxiety response(
=0.014). Therefore, we could concluded that different kind of stresses were influenced in dietary behavior and nutrient intakes. More research would be needed at the aspects of health promotion in the stressful situation of modern society.
Effect of Calcium Supplement on Bioavailability of Calcium in Rats Fed Soy Protein Diet
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 13, issue 2, 2002, Pages 53~61
This study is to find out how the 4 types of calcium salt such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, calcium lactate and calcium citrate in soy protein diet, the vegetable protein source, affect the calcium utilization in the body. To do so, calcium, phosphate and creatinine concentration and ALP activity in blood as well as the content of calcium and ash, the length, weight strength, and the calcium utilization in the bone were measured. Four groups of Sprague-Dawley male rats with the weight of around 180g were fed for 3 weeks with the experimental diet. Each group was fed with the isolated soy protein containing 14% of the diet and the above mentioned 4 types of calcium salt as the calcium source. The results are as follows; 1. There were no differences of the feed intake, weight gain, and feed efficiency among groups. 2. ALP activity in blood was sinificantly high in calcium lactate group(P<0.05), but there were no differences of concentration of calcium, phosphates, and creatinine in blood among groups. 3. The weight, calcium content, calcium ratio in ash and the strength of bone were low when calcium lactate was provided(P<0.05). 4. The content of calcium in the liver was high in calcium lactate group and calcium citrate group(P<.0.05). 5. The exceretion of feces was low in calcium lactate group(P<0.05) and the excretion of urine was also relatively low. In addition, the ratio of absorption and the retention of calcium were high(P<0.05). In summary, out of four types of calcium salt such as calcium carbontate, calcium phosphate, calcium lactate and calcium citrate when calcium lactate was provided the ALP activity in blood was high and the weight, calcium content, calcium ratio in ash and the strength of bone were low. In calcium utilization, the ratio of absorption and retention of calcium were high, however it has lower effect than 3 other calcium types in improving weight, the content of calcium and the strength of bone.
