Yoon, Hye-Jin ;
The Korean Journal of Community Living Science, volume 24, issue 2, 2013, Pages 209~220
DOI : 10.7856/kjcls.2013.24.2.209
This study is based on the interviews with six mothers to analyze their verbal response types with their young children ages 3-5 attending day-care center. This study was done from 10AM. to 12PM. August 18th 2012 at the director's room at P day care center in Seoul. For this study the following four situations mothers experience in child-rearing have been selected: self-achievement, sibling quarrel, nagging and isolation. As for the interview questionnaires the four verbal response types-stimulating, problem-solving, critical and indifferent ones-have been used. According to the results of this research, mothers tend to use stimulating verbal response types like praise in the situation of self-achievement; problem-solving response types like command in the situation of sibling quarrel; problem-solving response types like warning in the situation of nagging; and lastly, stimulating verbal response types like empathy in the situation of isolation. Mothers need to form more empathy with their children in such difficult situations as sibling quarrel or nagging. For mothers' efficient verbal responses for their children, accordingly, empathy in parent education needs to be more emphasized.

DOI : 10.7856/kjcls.2013.24.2.233
This study was conducted to evaluate the quality characteristics and the hypoglycemic effect of cookies containing Helianthus tuberosus powder (HTP). To examine the effect of adding HTP, cookies with various HTP contents (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) were made and compared for their quality characteristics. The pH of cookie doughs decreased significantly (p<0.05) as the content of HTP increased. However, the density did not show significant difference among samples. The spread ratio and loss rate in cookies showed significant increase (p<0.05) as the content of HTP increased. However the leavening rate and the hardness of the cookies decreased significantly (p<0.05) when HTP content increased. Color measurement also showed significant difference among samples, although the cookie sample with 10% HTP powder showed the highest scores from consumer tests and liking score, the cookie samples with 30% HTP were selected to measure the hypoglycemic effect of Helianthus tuberosus compared to control cookies and bread. Ten healthy subjects in their twenties participated in measuring blood glucose levels after intake of bread, control cookie, or 30% HTP cookie. Blood glucose level was measured after fasting 12 hours, before eating, and 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after taking the samples. As a result, the blood glucose levels at 30min after meals showed significant (p<0.05) difference among treatments: the lowest when taken the cookies added 30% HTP. However there was no difference in the blood glucose levels at 60min, 90min, and 120min after the sampling.

Identification of coating film species from ancient coating materials is needed to maintaine their surfaces without loss of their original beauty for a long time and understand the historical background of manufacturing techniques. A pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) was applied to identify the origine of films in ancient coating materials. The pyrolysis products, which reflect the source from which they originate were detected distinctively at
. This is a rapid technique that does not require large amounts of sample or any sample preparation. Sesquiterpenes are a class of terpenes that consist of three isoprene units were identified as cadienes, selinenes, cubebenes from the raw material of dendropanax morbifera. On the other hand, alkanes(tetra~heptadecanes), alkenes (tri~heptadecenes), allkyphenols, catechols and fatty acids were detected from the raw material of the lacquer film. Based on these results, the origine of historic coatings artifacts was identified using py-GC/MS by comparison with their pyrolysis products.

Korean oil and honey Yukwa has been paid attention as formal cake for traditional national seasons' holiday and religious service. Quality of Yukwa, however, has been maintained arbitrarily by each Yukwa manufacturer. Since even same Yukwa had severe differences in size, weight, and pattern, it has given the negative effect to the consumer. Yukwa industries need to setup the quantitative quality specifications instead of qualitative ones to maintain the uniformity of Yukwa quality. Efficient and economical inspection and process control system should be developed. In developing quality standards of Yukwa, features which can measure quality quantitatively in real time should be properly chosen. Existing quality features such as acidity, oxidization, hardness, viscosity, and texture were measured by the chemical or physical base destructive methods. Many research and developments have been performed in investigating and analyzing chemical transition states of those quality features as environment or storage condition changes. Most methods, however, require either off-line or complex treatment or time consuming process of analysis in evaluating quality features. Consumer, however, selects products mostly based on the external features such as shape, size, and color. Therefore, critical visual quality features should be chosen and the efficient real time measurement system must be developed. In this paper, computer image acquisition and processing system were developed and software modules were developed to extract the quantitative data of those features in real-time. Computer image processing system will promote in maintaining uniform quality of Yukwa and establishing quality standards of Yukwa.
