The Study of the Weight Control Experiences, Body Image Perception and Eating Disorder Status of High School Students in Yantai City, Shandong Province, China

This study was conducted to find out the weight control experiences, body image perception and eating disorder status of high school students in Yantai City, Shandong Province, China. The subjects of the study were 457 high school students in Yantai City. The results were as follows. The ratio of underweight and overweight and obesity of the subjects were 20.0% and 12.6% respectively. And 35% of the subjects had weight control experiences. There were significant differences according to the students` gender, location and BMI. In body image perception, the subjects who were normal and underweight overestimated their body figure, and the subjects who were overweight and obese underestimated their body figure. The girls wanted to have extremely skinny figure than standard figure and the degree of dissatisfactions with their figure was high. In the case of overweight and obese students, it showed a high degree of dissatisfaction of their body image. The ratio of the eating disorder group and eating disorder risk group were 7% and 19.3%, Compared to the students in rural areas, downtown students had significantly higher ratio of eating disorder. In conclusion, the education of healthy body weight and body image is necessary to the students in Yantai City, China. Especially the female students who live in downtown are considered to be the most important subjects of nutrition education.
The Evaluation of Sleeve Appearance on Sleeve Easing Contraction Using Virtual Garment Simulation

The purpose of this study is to quantitatively analyze the impacts of the distribution of easing contraction of the sleeve on the external appearance of bodice and sleeve through virtual clothing simulation. Virtual clothing is conducted by differentiating the sleeve easing in accordance with the experimental condition of bodice and sleeve that are followed by draping. And then the evaluation is carried out. As a result of an analysis of the similarity between the virtual garment and the actual clothing, the whole external appearance of the bodice and sleeve was expressed similarly. The external appearance according to the distribution of easing contraction got better as the easing contraction of sleeve was concentrated on sleeve cap in front while the appearance was better at the back as it was more gently distributed than in the front. In a comparison of armhole form, the clothing of which the top of it was most similar to S0 was S4 in which the gap between the armhole and the arm was the least and the front and rear silhouette fell relatively well. In a comparison between the position of bust circumference line and that of the sleeve base line, the front of the sleeve matched the bust circumference line as the easing contraction was distributed close to the center of the sleeve cap while in the back, the sleeve base line and the bust circumference line matched when some easing contraction ratio was added close to the armpit point. The cross section figures of garment space of the shoulder, the margin was evenly distributed in S4 or S5 with differing distributions of easing contraction in the front and the back. This study is significant in that it supplies the objective baseline data which makes a novice more able to make a good external appearance of the sleeve.
A Study on the Wearing & Purchase Practices of Shirt and the Analysis on the Difference of Body Types

The study aimed to investigate the wearing & purchase practices with shirts and analyze the group differences on the shirt size, BMI & perceived body type. Total usable questionnaires were obtained from 350 male office workers aged from 20 to 49 in Seoul. Results were gained from the statistical analysis such as factor analysis, ANOVA, t-test using SPSS 21.0. The results were as follows. First, male office workers had difficulty in choosing the right size among the different sizes of ready-made shirts and had trouble in vexatious order & high price for custom-made shirts, however, they had an emphasis on design and size for the 2 kinds of shirts in common. Second, the groups by shirt size, BMI, perceived body type showed significant differences in shirt fitness and shirt wearing methods of ready-made shirts but showed no difference in purchase intention of custom-made shirts. Fatness and body type were proved to be important for wearing shirts and it was assumed that there were socio-psychological reasons for the custom-made shirt purchase. Finally, the groups by the experience of purchasing custom-made shirts showed no difference in shirt fitness and shirt wearing methods of ready-made shirts but showed difference in purchase intention of custom-made shirts. This meant that purchase of a custom-made shirt stimulated another purchase. Therefore, shirt brands should focus on the first purchase of custom-made shirts.
A Study on the Living Conditions of Rural Women and the Determinants of Their Life Satisfaction

As rural life has shifted with the long term changes in the internal and external conditions of rural communities, this study aims to investigate the living conditions and life satisfaction of rural women. 70 questionnaires in health, clothing, food, shelter, economic conditions and child-rearing fields were used for a survey of 393 rural women from five rural areas in the northern region of Gyeongsangbuk-Do. Statistical techniques of frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test and regression analysis were employed through `SPSS Statistics 21`. Participants were divided into 3 groups, with Group A with income less than 15 million won, Group B with income of at least 15 million won and less than 30 million won, and Group C with at least 30 million won. For the life satisfaction and health conditions, Group C showed higher scores than Group A. The food security status of rural women in the research area was worse than that in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and food consumption by Group C was higher than that of Group A and Group B. For the satisfaction of kitchen, bathroom facilities and heating system, the income of 15 million won seemed to be the divisive value where richer groups were more satisfied. Job satisfaction seemed more related with the income amount rather than with the job itself. The parenting efficacy and child-rearing satisfaction were higher for Group C than for Group A. Determinants of life satisfaction turned out to be health conditions, heat susceptibility, fruit consumption, kitchen unit satisfaction, job satisfaction and parenting efficacy.
Current Status and Activation Needs for Student Nutrition Counseling among Elementary and Middle·High School Dietitians

This study was conducted to develop expanding strategies of nutrition counseling in school foodservices. The study participants were 102 school dietitians in Gyeonggi province, and information on the current status, dietitians` necessity awareness, and practical activation needs for nutrition counseling were investigated. While 78.8% of dietitians were aware that nutrition counseling was in need, it was only 31.3% who understood the necessity of nutrition counseling. The implementation rate of students` nutrition counseling was 26.2%, and 74.0% of counseling dietitians reported that they conducted nutrition counseling because it was on the inspection list by the Office of Education. Overall, dietitians did not have high consciousness of the need for nutrition counseling. The implementation rate of students` nutrition counseling was remarkably low due to the reason of excessive work and insufficient participants, and it was interpreted that dietitians had a low intrinsic motivation for nutrition counseling. So, we suggested several strategies to activate school nutrition counseling as follows. First of all, dietitians needed to increase the students` participation rate by promoting the importance of nutrition counseling to students and by assigning their available work hours for nutrition counseling. Second, in academic communities, standardized counseling manuals and media covering the important nutrition and health issues should be developed and disseminated, and education programs needed to build up dietitians` self-esteem and knowledge on nutrition counseling. Lastly, the Office of Education should have the initiative in activating nutrition counseling in school foodservices by supporting a budget and counseling dietitians who exclusively responsible part-time counseling at schools.
The Influence of Consumption Value and Attitude about Luxury Goods by Women on Consumption Behavior and Satisfaction

The purpose of this research was to examine the trend of women consumption value and attitude on luxury goods and to analyse the relations between the behavior of purchasing luxury goods and satisfaction of consumers who buy luxury items. A total of 548 questionnaires were obtained in July and August 2011 from female respondents in their 20s to 40s who have bought at least one luxury item in the last 3 years. Collected data was analysed with factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan`s test, and multiple regression in SPSS. The research results are summarized as follows: First, household income and personal expenditure were main factors in determining substantial differences in attitudes towards luxury goods and counterfeits. Second, the difference in frequency of buying luxury items was decided by household income, and expenditure and purchase cost, which varied based on age, education, occupation, household income, and expenditure. Third, both the younger consumers with more household income and expenditure and consumers with positive attitude towards luxury items but negative attitude towards the counterfeits purchased the luxury goods more frequently than those who are older with less incomes and expenditures. Fourth, consumers with more incomes and expenditures along with negative attitude towards the counterfeits spent more money on the luxury items. Consumers with less personal ostentation but with great pleasure consumption value for luxury goods spent more money on luxury goods. Fifth, the satisfactions of purchasing luxury goods were influenced by following variables such as positive attitudes toward luxury goods, ostentation, enjoyment and quality in consumption value.
The Quality Characteristics of Commercial Deonjang Certified for Traditional Foods

Deonjang has been developed as a fermented food in Korea. It produces a distinctive flavors and tastes during the fermentation process. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality characteristics of commercial deonjang certified for traditional foods. We investigated the amino nitrogen, sodium chloride(NaCl), total colony counts, coliforms, Bacillus cereus and isoflavone of 24 commercial deonjang samples certified for traditioinal foods. Deonjang showed wide ranges in amino nitrogen(105.76~318.93 mg%) and NaCl(12.53~16.51%). Survey distribution of microflora investigation in the total colony counts were detected in all 24 samples(100%), and the range is low
CFU/g, at the highest
CFU/g respectively. For the coliform, the following results were
CFU/g. B.cereus was detected in a total of four samples were
CFU/g in the distribution. Daidzein of isoflavones showed the lowest at 86.7 ppm, 681.8 ppm range of the best shows and genistein as low as 0 to 50.0 ppm respectively. This research provided information for quality characteristics of commercial deonjang certified for traditional foods.
Evaluation of the Farmers` Workload and Thermal Environments during Chili Harvest in the Open Field

Physiological and subjective responses of the farmers and thermal environment during chili harvest in the open field were investigated to evaluate the thermal environments and farmers`s workload. Eight career female farmers in their sixties participated as subjects both in morning work(MW, AM 9:00~10:30) and in afternoon work(AW, PM 15:00~16:30) with each lasting about 90 minutes. , respectively. By the WBGT, we evaluated that the thermal environment in the afternoon in the open field gave a thermal burden to farmers. 2) Mean skin temperature of AW(

(AW). Clothing microclimate humidity on the chest of each work time were over 80%RH. Heart rate were 88.5bpm(MW) and 91.7bpm(AW) respectively. 3) Farmers working in the afternoon felt uncomfortable after 45~60 min. of work and in the morning they felt uncomfortable after 90 min. of work. We evaluated that the harvesting of chilies in the open field was `moderate work` by the physiological responses but the level of thermal burden increased over time especially in the afternoon work. It is suggested that farm workers should drink fluids between work to stay in homeostasis by sweating and to take frequent rests. Active clothing ventilation and wearing functional garments would help farm workers excrete sweat effectively.
Segmentation and Preference Analysis of Urban Farming Patterns

The purpose of this study is to segment urban farming patterns and analyse the preference on urban farming by applying two-step cluster analysis, chi-square analysis and ANOVA. The data was collected by face-to-face surveys on 9 urban farms which were chosen by location and operator. Respondents were asked to describe their urban farming pattern, preference on urban farming and socio-demographic characteristics. Three different clusters were derived from two-step cluster analysis based on operator, transportation, number of visits per month, travel time, area and motive. They were `hobby-oriented farming`, `producing-oriented farming`, and `multipurpose farming`. The results of chi-square analysis showed that there were significant differences among these three segmented groups in terms of age, with or without children aged under 14, household income per month and housing type. In other words, there is quite a possibility that urbanites have different urban farming patterns according to their socio-demographic profiles. Also, there were significant differences on the preference on urban farming by cluster. According to the results, planning directions of urban farming were presented.
Fruit and Vegetable Consumption and Factors Affecting Fruit and Vegetable Consumption of School Children and Adolescents : Findings from Focus-Group Interviews with School Nutrition Teachers and Nutritionists

This study aimed to investigate fruit and vegetable consumption status of school children and adolescents and factors influencing their consumption from focus-group interviews with school nutrition teacher(s) and nutritionists. Most of all the evaluated fruit and vegetable intake levels of school children and adolescents was very low. They mentioned the intake of fruit and vegetable was similar between children and adolescents and boys tended to have less vegetable intake than girls. There was substantial difference in the serving frequencies of fruit between schools due to budgets. Fruit was consumed more than vegetables and fruit without seeds or peeled fruit was more preferred by children and adolescents. Factors affecting fruit and vegetable intake of children and adolescents were analysed by personal, family and school. Personal factors were gender, child development level, the lack of knowledge or perception on vegetables, westernized diet pattern and the preference of spicy foods. Family factors were the perception of parents, family meal environment, and income disparity. The factors related to schools were the principal, class teacher, friends, nutrition teacher, cooking and serving methods, cooking personals, budget and so on.
Suitability of Setting Summer Indoor Temperature for Thermal Comfort

This study was to provide the information for optimum utilization of the air-conditioning system in the human health and energy saving perspective. . During the environmental step changes, mean skin temperature decreased more in females while the oxygen uptake and rectal temperature were kept constant for both males and females. We found the preferred temperature was affected by the exposed temperature and the thermal sensation in the condition. Subjects preferred a lower environmental temperature when they were exposed to a lower temperature with cooler sensation. Therefore, in the perspective of human health and energy saving, it is recommended to start setting the air-conditioning temperature higher than the preferred temperature.
