The taxonomic consideration of petal and sepal micromorphology in Lycopus L. (Mentheae-Lamiaceae)

A comparative micromorphology of petal and sepal of 15 species of Lycopus was undertaken to assess their usefulness in species identification and to evaluate their significance in the taxonomy using scanning electron microscope and stereo microscope. Five types of trichome are found within the genus: unicellular cylindrical trichome, unicellular trichome with papillae, simple multicellular trichome, capitate glandular trichome, and peltate glandular trichome. The types, distribution, and density of the trichomes show considerable variation among the taxa. The distributional pattern of the unicellular cylindrical trichomes on inner side of corolla is differed among the investigated taxa, and can be classified into four patterns. The apex shape of sepal and the incised position of calyx are also various and be recognizedas four patterns. The shape of cell composing in both outer and inner sides of petal and sepal are shown variously. Finally, the taxonomic significance of micromorphology of the petal and sepal in identification and elucidation of the genus Lycopus, especially among the species is also briefly discussed.
A taxonomic study on Daucus species vegetated in islands off the Korean Peninsula

Daucus species vegetated in the island Dae-heug-san-do off the Korean Peninsula has been recorded as Daucus littoralis Sibth. et Sm. var. koreana Nakai, endemic to Korea in several flora. However, the name was revealed as a naked name, nomen nudum, because the valid publication and type specimens were found anywhere. Comparative observation on morphological characters between the Korean taxon of Daucus and D. littoralis reveals that the Korean vegetated in the island Dae-heug-san-do is not the D. littoralis, but the D. carota L. subsp. carota. The Korean name of the latter is designated newly as San-dang-geun. The new korean name, Seon-dang-geun, of the unrecorded taxon, D. carota subsp. maritimus (Lam.) Batt., is also given.
A taxonomic study on six sections Ischnostachyae, Anomalae, Capitellatae, Debiles, Capillares and Molliculae of Carex L. in Korea (Cyperaceae)

Morphological characters of 14 taxa in 6 sections Ischnostachya(one taxon), Anomalae(one taxon), Capitellatae (five taxa), Debiles (one taxon), Capillares (one taxon) and Molliculae (five taxa) of genus Carex (Cyperaceae) were reexamined. The epidermal patterns of perigynium, achene and leaf were investigated using by using a scanning eletron microscope (SEM) and a light microscope (LM). Morphological characters such as rhizome, spike, width of leaf, leaf sheath, involucre, involucre sheath, beak of perigynium, perigynium shape, and leaf epidermal patterns were useful for the identification of observed fourteen taxa. The number of spike, arrangement of psitillate or staminate spike and presence of bract were very useful characters to divide the treated 14 taxa into two groups. A key based on data was presented here.
Fruit wall anatomy of the genus Krigia (Asteraceae, Lactuceae) and their taxonomic implications

We researched fruit wall anatomical characters about the seven taxa of Krigia and the nearest one relative, Nothocalais cuspidata by making use of the fruit wall anatomy, and inferred systematical similarity. Among these characters, all species of the genus Krigia has identical characters in the shape of fruit and the number of rib, but showed specific differences in the shape of costa, the numbers of libriform fiber cell layers and fiber-sclereid cell layers in mesocarp, and development degree in these characters. Krigia biflora, K. cespitosa, K. occidentalis and K. wrightii have well developed libriform fiber cell, but K. dandelion, K. montana and K. virginica have undeveloped libriform fiber cell, and mostly consist of fiber-sclereid cell layers. According to the fruit wall anatomical characters, K. biflora which belonged to sect. Krigia in the previous classification system is more similar to sect. Cymbia than sect. Krigia.
Molecular phylogenetic relationships and speciation of Ranunculus cantoniensis (Ranunculaceae)

To investigate molecular phylogenetic relationships and to test hypothesis of hybrid origin of Ranunculus cantoniensis (Ranunculaceae), the sequences of nrDNA and chloroplast DNA were analyzed for 8 taxa and 25 accessions including 5 accessions of outgroup. In the phylogenetic trees by analyses of maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood for ITS nrDNA sequences and combined data of psbA-trnH, rps16 and trnL sequences of cpDNA, R. cantoniensis was most closely related to R. chinensis, and then to R. taciroi and R. silerifolius. The molecular phylogenetic relationships were not congruent with the previous report that R. cantoniensis was most closely related to R. silerifolius. In the sequence analysis of ITS and psbA-trnH, rps16, trnL for R. cantoniensis and the related taxa, R. cantoniensis showed polymorphism. It supported that the polymorphism also was reported in chromosome number and karyotype of R. cantoniensis. Ranunculus cantoniensis shared the marker gene of R. chinensis and R. silerifolius in ITS, and one of R. silerifolius in cpDNA. These results supported the hypothesis that R. cantoniensis was caused by hybridization between R. chinensis and R. silerifolius based on chromosome number and karyotype, and also estimated that R. silerifolius might be of maternal origin and R. chinensis be paternal.
An unrecorded species in Korean flora: Sedum tosaense Makino (Crassulaceae)

Sedum tosaense Makino (Crassulaceae), an unrecorded species in Korean flora, was collected from parasitic crater, Sangumburi in Jocheon-eup Bukjeju-gun, Jeju-do. This species is most similar to S. bulbiferum and S. orizifolium, but differs in some substantial characters. S. tosaense is perennial and stoloniferous herb with bulbils on stems, while S. bulbiferum is annual or biennial herb without bulbils in leaf axil. In addition, S. tosaense has leaves emarginate at apex whereas S. bulbiferum has leaves somewhat uneven at apex. the leaves of S. tosaense are conspicuously flattened and spatulate in shape at the stem without flowers, but those of S. orizifolium, are terete or slightly flattened and linear to narrowly oblong in shape.
