Bounding Space Management for Real-time Visual Simulation of GK-DEVS
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 1~14
This paper presents bounding space(BS) management for real-time visual simulation when using GK-DEVS models. Since GK-DEVS, extended from DEVS formalism, has information of 3D geometry and 3D hierarchical structure, we employs three types of bounding spaces: BS of its own shape, BS of its children GK-DEVS, and total BS. In addition to next-event scheduling functionality of previous GK-Simulator, its abstract simulation algorithms is extended to manage the three types of BSs so that BSs can be utilized in the rendering process of a renderer, so called GK-Renderer, We have implemented the method and evaluated it with an automated manufacturing system. In the case study, the proposed BSs management method showed about 2 times improvement in terms of rendering process speed.
Analysis of Network Traffic using Classification and Association Rule
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 15~23
As recently the network environment and application services have been more complex and diverse, there has. In this paper we introduce a scheme the extract useful information for network management by analyzing traffic data in user login file. For this purpose we use classification and association rule based on episode concept in data mining. Since login data has inherently time series characterization, convertible data mining algorithms cannot directly applied. We generate virtual transaction, classify transactions above threshold value in time window, and simulate the classification algorithm.
Developement of Simulation Model for Analysis of Hydraulic Systems in Injection Molding Machine (1)
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 25~32
Hydraulic systems of injection molding machine are modelled and simulated with AMESim which is a commercial program. Detail models of hydraulic components are simulated and simulation results are evaluated with maker's test results in catalog. Sub system models which is divided according to functional operation are made and its analysis results shows how design parameters work on operational characteristics like cylinder speed, cylinder displacement, pressure, flow rates at each node and so on. Total circuit model is also made and analyzed. The prediction made by simulation will be used design of hydraulic systems of injection molding machine.
A Study on Detecting Unexpected Demands of Mobile Users in Wireless Networking Environment
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 33~41
One of the key issues in mobile communication system is how to predict the number of calls per each cell. It is an important parameter and usually assumed as random Poisson value. For effective management of cellular network, the average number of calls should be traced and the changes in the numbers need to be promptly detected. In this paper we propose an algorithm detecting the changes in the demands of the users using the technique proposed for point-of-change problem based only on the number of call arrivals. Computer simulation reveals that the proposed method can effectively detect the discord, and the developed model is very accurate as showing mostly less than 1% differences.

Vessel traffic safety management means the managerial technical measures for improving the marine traffic safety in general terms. The main flow of vessel traffic safety management is that: 1) Traffic Survey, 2) Replay by Marine Traffic Flow Simulation, 3) Quantitative Assessment, 4) Policy Alternatives, 5) Prediction·Verification. In the management of vessel traffic safety, it is most important to establish assessment models that can numerically estimate the current safety level and quantitatively predict the correlation between the measures to be taken and the improvement of safety and the reduction of ship handling difficulties imposed on mariners. In this paper, the replay model for traffic flow simulation was made using marine traffic survey data, and the present traffic situation became replay in the computer. An attempt was made to rate the current safety of ports and waterways by applying the Environmental Stress model. And, as a countermeasure for traffic management, by taking of, the promotion of total traffic congestion in early morning rush hour, the correlation between traffic control rate and the reduction in ship handling difficulties imposed on mariners was predicted quantitatively,
A Study of Cyclic Scheduling Analysis in FMS Based on the Transitive Matrix
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 57~68
The analysis of the cyclic scheduling problem in FMS using the transitive matrix has been proposed. Since the transitive matrix may explain all the relations between the places and transitions, we propose an algorithm to get good solution after slicing off some subnets from the original net based on machines operations. For analyzing the schedule problem, we considered two time functions such as produce time and waiting time using the P-invariant. In addition, we are shown the effectiveness of proposed algorithm after comparing with unfolding algorithms.
Mixed Model Assembly Line-Balancing Using Simulation
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 69~80
This study deals with the productivity improvement on a flow production system with the consideration of line-balancing. In a flow production system, similar product models are produced on a same assembly line, the predefined process order and the limitation of total worker number. The system can be increased the work-in -process(WIP) inventory and the worker's idle time. In this study, the worker assignment model is developed to assign evenly workload of process to each product model in such a manner that each process has the different number of worker. This worker assignment model is the mathematical model that determines worker number in each process such that the idle time of processes is reduced and the utilization of worker is improved. We use a simulation technique to simulate the production line proposed by the mathematical model and apply real production line. With the result of simulation, this study analyzes the propriety of production line and proposes the alternatives of new production line

Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 81~89
Several full mission simulators have been installed since about 10 years ago in Korea. The newly established Marine Simulation Training and Research Center at Korea Maritime University has played a key role for education and training of both cadets and in-service officers trainees, and for research on Korea ports such as Jeju international cruise port, Ulsan SBM and Kwangyang container port and many others. This study mainly focuses maritime education and training on the ship handling simulation and the bridge resource management conducted by Korea Maritime University.
An Application of Blackboard Architecture for the Coordination among the Security Systems
Journal of the Korea Society for Simulation, volume 11, issue 4, 2002, Pages 91~105
The attackers on Internet-connected systems we are seeing today are more serious and technically complex than those in the past. So it is beyond the scope of amy one system to deal with the intrusions. That the multiple IDSes (Intrusion Detection System) coordinate by sharing attacker's information for the effective detection of the intrusion is the effective method for improving the intrusion detection performance. The system which uses BBA (BlackBoard Architecture) for the information sharing can be easily expanded by adding new agents and increasing the number of BB (BlackBoard) levels. Moreover the subdivided levels of blackboard enhance the sensitivity of the intrusion detection. For the simulation, security models are constructed based on the DEVS (Discrete EVent system Specification) formalism. The intrusion detection agent uses the ES (Expert System). The intrusion detection system detects the intrusions using the blackboard and the firewall responses these detection information.
