Verification of Automatic PAR Control System using DEVS Formalism

This paper proposes automatic precision approach radar (PAR) control system using digital signal to increase the safety of aircraft, and discrete event systems specification (DEVS) methodology is utilized to verify the proposed system. Traditionally, a landing aircraft is controlled by the human voice of a final approach controller. However, the voice information can be missed during transmission, and pilots may also act improperly because of incorrectness of auditory signals. The proposed system enables the stable operation of the aircraft, regardless of the pilot's capability. Communicating DEVS (C-DEVS) is used to analyze and verify the behavior of the proposed system. A composed C-DEVS atomic model has overall composed discrete state sets of models, and the state sequence acquired through full state search is utilized to verify the safeness and the liveness of a system behavior. The C-DEVS model of the proposed system shows the same behavior with the traditional PAR control system.

This paper suggests Effectiveness Evaluation Methods of DDoS attacks countermeasures model by simulation. According to the security objectives that are suggested by NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology), It represents a hierarchical Effectiveness Evaluation Model. we calculated the weights of factors that security objectives, security controls, performance indicator through AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis. Subsequently, we implemented Arena Simulation Model for the calculation of function points at the performance indicator. The detection and protection algorithm involve methods of critical-level setting, signature and anomaly(statistic) based detection techniques for Network Layer 4, 7 attacks. Proposed Effectiveness Evaluation Model can be diversely used to evaluate effectiveness of countermeasures and techniques for new security threats each organization.
Development of a Simulation Model to Decide the Proper Target Inventory Level for TOC Replenishment Inventory Management using System Dynamics

Ptak & Smith published ORLICKY'S Material Requirement Planning Third Edition in 2011 to correspond the rapidly changed market demand by improving the original MRP based on Theory of Constraints(TOC) replenishment inventory management. This study is to develop the simulation model to decide the proper target inventory level for TOC replenishment inventory management using system dynamics Vensim software. This study shows that the proper target replenishment level is how much significant to manage the inventory by the random sample data simulation. This simulation model will be extended to compare the results of the TOC replenishment inventory management planning with the results of the old MRP planning by the enterprise actual inventory data.
An Ontology-based Cloud Storage for Reusing Weapon Models

Defense Modeling and Simulation aims to provide a computerized war environment where we can analyze weapon systems realistically. As we invest significant efforts to represent weapon systems and their operational environments on the computer, there has been an increasing need to reuse predefined weapon models. In this paper, we introduce OB-Cloud (Ontology-Based Cloud storage) to utilize predefined weapon models. OB-Cloud has been implemented as a repository for OpenSIM (Open Simulation engine for Interoperable Models), which is an integrated simulation environment for aiding weapons effectiveness analysis, under the development of our research team. OB-Cloud uses weapon ontology and thesaurus dictionaries to provide semantic search for reusable models. In this paper, we present repository services of OB-Cloud, including registration of weapon models and semantic retrieval of similar models, and illustrate how we can improve reusability of weapon models, through an example.
Interoperation of NetSPIN Communication Model and Wargame Model for Analysis of Combat Power

Due to the development of communication system in the warfare, the future warfare is changing to network-centric warfare (NCW). In the NCW, the communication effect has a significant influence on the combat power. There is growing importance for analysis of communication effect in the combat power. There are many researches about this issue, but there is no study on analysis using relationship between communication system and combat power. In this paper, we illustrates interoperation environment consisting of NetSPIN communication model and wargame model to analyze influence of parameters of communication model on combat effectiveness of wargame model. The wargame model is a corps-scaled model based on Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. The communication model is a corps-scaled SPIDER network model of NetSPIN based on OPNET. Especially, we uses OAI matrix to identify parameters in communication simulator influencing on combat power, and analyze relationship between parameters and combat power through design of experiment and simulation by using them. For the future work, we expect that requirement analysis of communication equipment in NCW by using meta-modeling method.
Methodology of Analyzing the Measure of Combat Effectiveness Reflecting Communication Effects in Network Centric Warfare

As a future warfare is changed to network-centric warfare (NCW), importance of research on the relation between combat effectiveness and communication effect has increased. The combat effectiveness has been analyzed using war game simulator and the communication effect has been analyzed using communication simulator. However, the relation of them has not been researched so far. In this paper, we describe a methodology of analyzing the measure of effectiveness reflecting communication effects in NCW. In the methodology, firstly, simulation interoperation environment between the war game simulator and the communication simulator is developed. Especially, we propose an interface model and interoperation interface to support the simulators for simulation interoperation. Then, we statistically analyze the output data of the simulation interoperation environment and develop a meta-model which illustrates the relation between war game and communication simulator directly. With this methodology, we can figure out the relation between the war game and communication simulator directly. Moreover, we expect that this relation effects on developing doctrines, communication operation and communication devices.
Application of Control Variable with Routing Probability to Queueing Network Simulation

This research discusses the application of the control variables to achieve a more precise estimation for the target response in queueing network simulation. The efficiency of control variable method in estimating the response depends upon how we choose a set of control variables strongly correlated with the response and how we construct a function of selected control variables. For a class of queuing network simulations, the random variables that drive the simulation are basically the service-time and routing probability random variables. Most of applications of control variable method focus on utilization of the service time random variables for constructing a controlled estimator. This research attempts to suggest a controlled estimator which uses these two kinds of random variables and explore the efficiency of these estimators in estimating the reponses for computer network system. Simulation experiments on this model show the promising results for application of routing probability control variables. We consider the applications of the routing probability control variables to various simulation models and combined control variables using information of service time and routing probability together in constructing a control variable as future researches.
Optimization for Concurrent Spare Part with Simulation and Multiple Regression

Recently, the study in efficient operation, maintenance, and equipment-design have been growing rapidly in military industry to meet the required missions. Through out these studies, the importance of Concurrent Spare Parts(CSP) are emphasized. The CSP, which is critical to the operation and maintenance to enhance the availability, is offered together when a equipment is delivered. Despite its significance, th responsibility for determining the range and depth of CSP are done from administrative decision rather than engineering analysis. The purpose of the paper is to optimize the number of CSP per item using simulation and multiple regression. First, the result, as the change of operational availability, was gained from changing the number of change in simulation model. Second, mathematical regression was computed from the input and output data, and the number of CSP was optimized by multiple regression and linear programming; the constraint condition is the cost for optimization. The advantage of this study is to respond with the transition of constraint condition quickly. The cost per item is consistently altered in the development state of equipment. The speed of analysis, that simulation method is continuously performed whenever constraint condition is repeatedly altered, would be down. Therefore, this study is suitable for real development environment. In the future, the study based on the above concept improves the accuracy of optimization by the technical progress of multiple regression.
