STUDIES ON THE AMOUNTS OF DEVELOPING PERMANENT TOOTH GERM
Kim, Jin-Tae ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 7~11
Of 633 children, 334 in male and 299 in female, whose ages ranged from 3 to 13 years old, the amounts of development of teeth germ were observed according to ages with oblique lateral cephalogram to study the developing state of teeth germ of mandibular premolars. The results were as followings; 1. The time of actively develop:ng tooth germ was observed about 10 years old both in male and in female. 2. The increasing rate of development of tooth germ a year was higher in female than in male at mandibular 1st premolar and in male than in female at mandibular 2nd premolar. 3. Age of complete tooth germ development was earlier in female than in male at mandibular 1st and 2nd premolars.

The results were as followings; 1) In sagittal canine relationship, 63.9%(170 children) showed class 1 pattern, 2.3%(6 children) showed class 2 pattern, 21%(56 children) showed class 3 pattern and 12.8%(34 children) showed a different canine relationship in each side. 2) In sagittal molar relationship, 44.3% 118 children) showed class 1 pattern, 6.1%(16 children) showed class 2 pattern, 32.3%(86 children) showed class 3 pattern and 17.3%(46 children) showed a different molar relationship in each side. 3) In overjet, 87.8%(234 children) showed under 2mm. 4) 5.3%(14 children) showed crossbite and 4.6%(12 children) showed scissors-bite. 5) 21.8%(58 children) showed midline deviation. 6) Primate space was coincided with more common position of interdental space.
CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE ATTACHED GINGIVA OF THE CHILDREN IN KOREA
Moon, Je-Won ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 27~32
To corroborate that the width of attached gingiva should be changed according to ages, and what relationships between the changes and the results of Glickman's clinical tension test would be, The author measured the width of attached gingiva of 85 Korean children in male, 94 Korean children in female from 8 to 11 ages and performed clinical tension test. The results were as followings; 1) At midline region of each evaluated teeth, Width of attached gingiva was the narrowest at midline region of deciduous canine, and nearly same at midline region of central incisor and lateral incisor. 2) At interproximal region of each evaluated teeth, Width of attached gingiva between left and right central incisors was the narrowest, that of between deciduous canine and lateral incisor, and between lateral incisor and cental incisor were the widest at maxilla and All were nearly same at mandible. 3) In general, width of attached gingiva of interproximal region was wider than that of midline region. 4) In this study, width of attached gingiva tended to be increasing according to ages both at maxilla and at mandible. 5) Compared maxilla with mandible, Width of attached gingiva of maxilla was wider than that of mandible. 6) The results of tension test were it that Over-all incidence was the highest in 8 year old children who had the narrowest width of attached gingiva at frenum attached region and tended to be decreasing according to ages from 8 to 11 years.
EFFECT OF AMINOACETONITRILE ON THE DEVELOPING RAT PERIODONTAL MEMBRANE
Kang, Min-Sun ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 33~38
It has been studied that aminoacetonitrile was associated with the inhibition of collagen fiber, argyrophilic fiber and oxytalan fiber synthesis. This experiment was performed, by the basic knowledge of above mentioned study, to study on the biological effect of aminoacetonitrile to the developing periodontal ligament in Sprague Dawley rat. twenty two of female rats weighing about 200gm were gestated. In 7 days after gestation, the experimental rats were injected aminoacetonitrile 7 times intraperitoneally. After parturition, delivered fJtuses were divided into 4 groups and each group was sacrificed to 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days after delivery, schematically. All the fetuses were observed on their periodontal ligament by histological and histo chemical methods. To study on the components of periodontal ligament fiber in these experimental study van Gieson, Masson's trichrom, argyrophilic fiber, oxytalan fiber, methyl green pyronin and periodic acid-Shiff staining were performed. Results were as follows; 1) Retardation of functional orientation in periodontal ligament collagen fiber was observed in 1 day fetuses hut this appearance was diminished gradually and recovered in normal condition in 7 days fetuses. 2) Distribution of argyrophilic fiber in 1 day fetuses was oriented delicately and loosely but volume of this fiber was gradually thickened and distributed densely. 3) Oxytalan fiber was oriented dendritic ally and contradictorily in 14 days fetuses but their orientation was changed into oblique form in middle portion of roof and their numbers were increased gradually. 4) Pyronin-philic stain of fibroblast was gradually deepened in 7 days fetuses and this finding also suggested to the depreciation of collagen synthesis in this specimen. 5) PAS positive line was observed continuousely at the portion of cervical to the middle root surface.
EPIDEMIOLOGY OF DENTAL CARIES INCIDENCE IN POLIOMYELITIS CHILDREN
Lee, Jong-Gap ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 39~43
I have studied on the dental caries incidence of 172 poliomyelitis children who are housed in rehabilitation hospital age from 3 to 13 years compared to a group of normal children. The results were as follows; 1. def rate of the poliomyelitis children was 68.63% (male 66.67%, female 71.43%) and was low value compare with that of control group of 78.64% (M 75.93%, F81.63%). 2. def index per person of poliomyelitis children was 2.37 (M 2.00, F 2.91) and was low in number compare with that of 3.29 (M 3.33, F 3.24) in control group children. 3. DMF rate of the poliomyelitis children was 59.41% (M 54.55%, F 62.79%) and was higher value than that of 48.28% (M 37.88%, F 59.96%) in control group. 4. DMF incidence per person in poliomyelitis was 1.62 (M1.48, F1.89) and was also higher in number than that of 1. 220 (M 0.85, F 1.49) in control group. 5. The dental caries incidence was higher in female than in male.

THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 44~46
This is to report of a case of bilateral taurodontism of mandibular right & left 1st deciduous molars of 4 year-old female. Taurodontism is a morphologic condition of tooth, it seems to be caused by delayed or incomplete union of horizontal epithelial flaps of the epithelial diaphragm. This union is necessary in order to initiate dentinogenesis in the bifurcation area.
A STATISTICAL STUDY ON THE SIMPLIFIED ORAL HYGIENE INDEXIN THE HANDICAPPED CHILDREN
Wook, Huh-Man ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 47~63
The author studied on the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index in the handicapped children, who are housed by several rehabilitation institution age from 3 to 17 year in Seoul area and 439 normal children as a control group. The obtained results are as follows: 1) In the Oral Hygiene Index(OHI), The handicapped children showed remarkable increment compared to normal children(The Index score was 2.00 in cerebral palsy children, 1.94 in poliomyelitis, 1.79 in other's diseased children, in 1.01 in normal children) and the score was increased as age increment. 2) In the OHI of the handicapped children, male was higher than female. 3) Dental calculus deposition in the handicapped children was severe in the lower anterior teeth and least in the upper anterior teeth. 4) Dental calculus Index of the handicapped children was comparatively higher in the region which had higher food debris index. 5) As the conculusion of this study, we found that continuous and active dental enlightenment and treatment for oral health in the handicapped children are necessary.
ROENTGENOCEPHALOMETRIC STUDY FOR THE CHILDREN IN THE PRIMARY DENTITION OF KOREAN
Kim, Dong-Joon ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 64~75
In order to know cephalometric norms for the preschool children, this roentgeno cephalometric study was undertaken in each 50 Korean male and female children of primary dentition age from 4 to 5 year. The following results were obtained. 1. In the skeletal analysis, there was no significant difference between male and female in angular measurement and the linear measument of the male was generally greater than that of the female. 2. Saddle angle was
, articular angle was
, gonial angle was
and the sum of each angle was
in male and
in female. 3. The ratio of mandibular body to anterior cranial base was about 1 : 0.91. 4. In the primary dentition, suggested that the nasion and point A move forward relative to sella turcica in a fashion, pogonion and point B are equal in angular position relative to plan S-N, bony chin and chin button was yet underdeveloped, and the forward growth of mandible was seen rapid than maxilla after 4 years. 5. Suggested that the percentage of anterior facial height to the posterior facial height were 64.4% in male and 64.1% in female. 6. Maxillary primary incisors was more upright than the permanent incisors, mandibular primary incisors was inclined lingually relative to the permanent incisor, and primary incisors was more upright than the permanent incisors. 7. Maxillary primary incisors in female was inclined labially than male. 8. In the the relationship of the upper lip and lower lip to the esthetic line, the upper lip was 2.11mm and the lower lip was 2.33mm front of the esthetic line.
STUDIES ON THE CLINICAL EFFICACY OF VALIUM AND PENTOBARBITAL AS PREMEDICATING AGENT
Kim, Young-Jin ;
THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ACADEMY OF PEDTATRIC DENTISTRY, volume 5, issue 1, 1978, Pages 76~82
To evaluate clinically effect of Valium and Sodium pentobarbital as premedicating agent, both drugs and a placebo were compared in 45 patients (2 to 11 yrs). The results were as follows. 1. Both Sodium pentobarbital and Valium were superior to placebo for control of crying, cooperation and apprehension, but the statistically differences were not significant. 2. Both Valium and Sodium pentobarbital were superior to placebo for control of behavior in tense cooperative child; the differences were significant statistically. 3. The difference between Pentobarbital and Valium were-more pronounced at the initial level than at the subsequent readings, and Sodium pentobarbital was for superior at the initial level to the other drugs. 4. Paradoxical excitement occured in 2 cases on the Sodium pentobarbital group, and other apparent side effect did not occur, excluding mild drowsiness. 5. Neither Valium nor Sodium pentobarbital, as used in this study, resulted in consistantly better behavior in all patients.
