Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 1~9
The general medical information service in hospital recently has been turned into ubiquitous environment. A key requirement in ubiquitous environment is the ability for communication between image viewer realized by DICOM standard and a server supporting medical information to make it possible. In order to apply the proposed scheme, we first realized the server/client networking in mobile terminal environment. Second, we realized DICOM viewer using a PDA to be capable of wireless communication in ubiquitous environment. Third, MIPS(Medical Information Processing System) utilized RFID system to apply the patient's information efficiently. In particular, it showed the capability to communicate image based system unlike previous text based communication.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 10~24
Performing a survey on the employers of S company that have built an EIP and used it effectively, we examined the priority of success factors that are considered as important ones by managers, general users, and system administrators. Then, we examined whether the priorities are different among the users of EIP according to the job, position, and period of use. Further, we looked into how the past and present EIP system of S company implemented the factors that took the first and the second places in priority for each of the four categories; the category of factors considered at the in of determining whether to build the system, the category of system functions provided in general, the category of functions provided with high priority when the system is used after the building, md the category of factors that make effective use of the system once it is built.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 32~39
MANET is a dynamically reconfigurable wireless network with no fixed infrastructure (base station, or AP). In order to provide the data service in MANET, we need an efficient routing protocol to deliver the data to the wanted destination at a mobile node. A method of routing protocols called reactive routing protocol has recently got attention because of their low routing overhead. But a method of flooding broadcasts the packet to all of its neighbors. For this reason, each of the node has high routing overhead to route and keep path discovery. Accordingly in this paper, I propose an adaptive flooding scheme using N-hop look-ahead in MANET, md an optimal N value of doing flooding the packet to limited area. Because of being basically ignorant about topological changes, each of the node did not spontaneously cope with path alteration. But an efficient flooding scheme applying N-hop look-ahead is more resilient to topology changes than traditional algorithms. And also with this efficient flooding scheme, the simulation results demonstrate excellent reduction of routing overhead.

Kim, Jeong-Goo ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 40~46
The performance of iterative multiuser detector and turbo decoder is presented to provide high quality multimedia services in WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) system in this paper. Especially the relationship between the local iteration of turbo decoder and the global iteration of multiuser detector including the turbo decoder is analyzed. As a result, three local iterations and three global iterations are considered to be sufficient to provide satisfactory error performance with resonable complexity. The interference cancellation capability of global iteration is improved when the number of users is increased.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 47~65
The application of the ERP system is becoming more common to the businesses since a firm needs to reinforce positive competitiveness and to maintain competitive advantage. The ERP system is an enterprise integration solution that converts the whole business processes through information technology. Extant research provides plenty of results about the success factors of the ERP system; however, most of the researches focus on the exterior factors such as techniques rather than on the influences that a firm's employees' individual personality has in accepting the information technology of the ERP system. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of the employees' individual personality as a factor that makes the ERP system a success. The surveys--composed of the extent of information technology acceptance about the personality type of MBTI (Myers-Briggs type indicator) and the ERP system--were given to the companies applying the ERP system The personality type of MBTI is measured by 4 types of Myers, and Davis's TAM (technology acceptance model) is used for the information technology acceptance. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First the extraversion and the judging in the personality types of MBTI have a significant influence on the information technology acceptance of the ERP system. However, the thinking and the feeling in the personality types of MBTI were analyzed to not have a critical affect on the ERP system acceptance. Second as verified in the extant research the information technology acceptance verification related to the ERP system has a significant influence on perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, behavioral intention and actual usage of the ERP system. The results of this study can be used for a successful application of the ERP system as follows. First it offers foundation of perception that the type of the individual personality is a significant key figure for the successful use of the ERP system. Second it provides a basis for the knowledge of combining the model of information technology acceptance and the psychological factors.

Carbon nanofibers have synthesized a low temperature using DC Ar plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, and a characteristic difference of the synthesized CNF according to the location of the substrate was investigated. The carbon nanofibers had about 100nm diameter and up to
length. These were grown in random orientation. There are two shapes in the CNFs, screw and straight line shapes. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on the scratched substrates. The density of CNFs synthesized on the position (a) were higher than that synthesized on the position (b) [See the Fig. 2]. Also, the length of CNFs was different. In the shape, CNFs with screw and straight line shape were synthesized in the position (a), but. only CNFs with straight line shape were synthesized in the position (b). The difference have an important effect on the field emission characteristics.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 72~81
In this paper, we first define a total of 64 instructions that are considered to be essential and frequently used, construct a datapath diagram, determine the control sequence using a finite state machine, and implement an 8-bit microcontroller using FPGA in VHDL. In the past, only functional simulation results of a rudimentary microcontroller were reported, the microcontroller lacked interrupt handling capability, or it was not implemented in hardware. We have designed a self-contained 8-bit microcontroller such that it can perform data transfer, addition, and logical operations, as well as stack and external interrupt operations. Following timing simulation of the designed microcontroller, we implemented it in an FPGA and verified its operation successfully. The design and implementation has been done under the Altera MAX+PLUS II integrated development environment using the EP1K50TC144-3 chip. The maximum operating frequency, the total number of logic elements used, and the logic utilization were found to be 9.39 MHz, 2813, and 97%, respectively. The result can be used as a microcontroller IP, and as needs arise, the VHDL code can be modified accordingly.

In the field of image recognition, research on face recognition has recently attracted a lot of attention. The most important step in face recognition is automatic eye detection researched as a prerequisite stage. Existing eye detection methods for focusing on the frontal face can be mainly classified into two categories: active infrared(IR)-based approaches and image-based approaches. This paper proposes an eye region detection method in non-frontal faces. The proposed method is based on the edge--based method that shows the fastest computation time. To extract eye region in non-frontal faces, the method uses edge orientationhistogram of the global region of faces. The problem caused by some noise and unfavorable ambient light is solved by using proportion of width and height for local information and relationship between components for global information in approximately extracted region. In experimental results, the proposed method improved precision rates, as solving 3 problems caused by edge information and achieves a detection accuracy of 83.5% and a computational time of 0.5sec per face image using 300 face images provided by The Weizmann Institute of Science.

Kim, Nam-Sun ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 11, issue 4, 2006, Pages 112~120
Multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) system that combines multicarrier modulation with CDMA offers robustness to frequency selective fading and can support higher rate data transmission with higher spectral efficiency. A new asynchronous MC-CDMA system to implement multiple data rate communications is proposed in this paper. In a W-CDMA downlink the orthogonal variable spreading factor(OVSF) code is used for variable spreading factor for various multimedia traffic. Proposed system utilizes the OVSF code that generated by generation property for spreading. The proposed MC-CDMA system use different lengths of OVSF code as a spreading code according to their data rate. The groupwise processing is accomplished by code grouping in OVSF code generation tree. For the analysis of average BER performance, numerical method and computer simulation were used. We also compare the system performance with that of a single rate MC-CDMA system used orthogonal code as a spreading code.
