PS-NC Genetic Algorithm Based Multi Objective Process Routing
Lee, Sung-Youl ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 1~7
This paper presents a process routing (PR) algorithm with multiple objectives. PR determines the optimum sequence of operations for transforming a raw material into a completed part within the available machining resources. In any computer aided process planning (CAPP) system, selection of the machining operation sequence is one of the most critical activities for manufacturing a part and for the technical specification in the part drawing. Here, the goal could be to generate the sequence that optimizes production time, production cost, machine utilization or with multiple these criteria. The Pareto Stratum Niche Cubicle (PS NC) GA has been adopted to find the optimum sequence of operations that optimize two conflicting criteria; production cost and production quality. The numerical analysis shows that the proposed PS NC GA is both effective and efficient to the PR problem.

Won, Hui-Chul ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 8~15
Relay-assisted multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technique has become a promising candidate for next generation broadband wireless communications for high speed access. In this paper, we propose channel selective relay-based MIMO transmission system. The performance of relay-based system can be improved by using the subcarriers selectively based on the channel condition between relay and mobile station. Simulation results show that the proposed relay-based system considerably outperforms the conventional relay-based system.

Kim, Seon-Pil ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 16~29
This paper investigates the kinematic and dynamic analysis of a spherical three degree of freedom parallel joint module, which is used in the exercise equipment for balance and leg-strength improvement of aged people. The joint module has three dyads which consist of two links and three revolute joints, and their all joints intersect at the global point located at the module's center. The paper shows the explicit mathematical procedure for deriving the closed form solutions in the inverse and forward position analysis of this parallel joint module. In velocity and acceleration analysis, we derived relations for joint velocities and accelerations of dyads and rotational velocity and acceleration of the top plate. For applying this module to rehabilitation exercise, we determined the dynamic model of the Korean males in their 50s and examined the model's results by dynamic model simulation.

Lee, Seung-Ik ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 30~36
In this paper, we develop the next generation mobile system based on SBC(Server Based Computing). SBC is one of the popular topic and only one server system is used as multiple personal systems with a terminal, a monitor and a keyboard. The advantages of this system are easy-upgrade, low costs and convenience for each user. But it is difficult to design and manufacture the multimedia streaming system and devices control system for external devices. In this paper, we represent and develops the Mobile system based on SBC and the test performances shows that our system has good performances of multimedia system and security for internet.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 37~48
Household service robots should be able to provide their users with a variety of temporal reasoning services. In this paper, we propose an effective way of developing such temporal reasoning services using a domain-independent AI planner. Developing temporal reasoning services with a domain-independent AI planner, we have to address both the knowledge engineering problem of how to represent various real-world temporal constraints in a planning domain definition language, and the system design problem of how to realize the interface between the AI planner and the service consumer. In this paper, we introduce an example scenario and a set of typical temporal constraints for a household service robot, and then present how to represent them in the standard planning domain definition language. We also explain how to implement a service agent based on an AI planner in order to develop and provide new services efficiently.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 49~56
Recently, studies for effective multimedia contents delivery have been widely performed in the multimedia streaming area. Overlay multicast, which can be implemented in the application layer, is method to transmit multimedia content's effectively. The Overlay multicast method can implement multicast transmission without changing the physical layer, and it has the characteristic that the application method can be diversify according to the algorithm. This paper has proposed the backup path construction method of overlay multicast for stabilized multimedia contents transmission. The proposed method can construct a backup path with the minimum searching method for guaranteed QoS(Quality of Service) and in overlay multicast so a fast and simple backup path can be constructed.

Park, Sung-Wook ; Park, Jong-Wook ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 57~64
In this paper, We propose an highly efficient preprocessing technique for improving the performance of the crease extraction method, which can improve the accuracy of feature extraction within the fingerprint image. The proposed method applies the 1-dimensional directional slit for each pixel in fingerprint image. Once the direction of every pixel in crease candidate area is estimated, it is decomposed into different images depending on their direction. From the directional images, the crease clusters are estimated by utilizing the property of crease area. The proposed method finally extracts the crease from the crease clusters estimated from directional images.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 65~74
The risk of health impairment due to poor ventilation, fire and explosion by inflammable materials, and other unintended occurrences is always present in dangerous workplaces such as manholes, underground septic tanks, storage tanks and confined areas. Therefore, it a system which can monitor harmful working environment through sensors in workplace on a realtime basis and keep workers safe from the risk is needed. This paper has attempted to design an inference engine to monitor harmful environments in the workplace. The proposed inference engine has a rule-based system structure using JESS. This system is not confined to a particular computing platform and is easily interlocked with OSGi-based middleware.

Improvement of productivity and efficient process management need to define the problem of the previous work. If it takes long time to gather necessary information, it becomes difficult to continuously manage processes to satisfy customers' needs and to enhance business efficiency. This paper proposes methods and a context awareness system for decision making to solve problems originated in management of manufacturing process through real-time information acquisition. We implement the context awareness by suggesting decision logics that automatically classify works with acquired information. And we also implement a system for case study which makes workers recognize problems and notifies instructions to them. Consistency between real object and stored data and continuous process monitoring with this system could find inefficient resources or delayed works, resolve them and improve processes efficiency.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 91~100
In this paper, we propose autonomous intelligent wheelchair system which recognize the commands using the gaze recognition and avoid the detected obstacles by sensing the distance through range sensors on the way to driving. The user's commands are recognized by the gaze recognizer which use a centroid of eye pupil and two reflection points extracted using a camera with infrared filter and two infrared LEDs. These are used to control the wheelchair through the user interface. Then wheelchair system detects the obstacles using 10 ultrasonic sensors and assists that it avoid collision with obstacles. The proposed intelligent wheelchair system consists of gaze recognizor, autonomous driving module, sensor control board and motor control board. The gaze recognizer cognize user's commands through user interface, then the wheelchair is controled by the motor control board using recognized commands. Thereafter obstacle information detected by ultrasonic sensors is transferred to the sensor control board, and this transferred to the autonomous driving module. In the autonomous driving module, the obstacles are detected. For generating commands to avoid these obstacles, there are transferred to the motor control board. The experimental results confirmed that the proposed system can improve the efficiency of obstacle avoidance and provide the convenient user interface to user.

Yoo, Sang-Jin ; Shon, Jung-Im ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 101~115
This study analyzed the diffusion process of digital convergence products focused on camera phon to compare the traditional adoption-diffusion model with use-diffusion model proposed by Shih and Venkatesh(2004). The results suggested that observability, perceived usefulness, innovativeness, relative advantage have effects on the intention of repurchase in the adoption-diffusion model. On the other hand, the intention of repurchase has been affected by technological sophistication, satisfaction, innovativeness, relative advantage in the use-diffusion model. These results imply that the traditional adoption-diffusion model could be applied to the cases of the digital convergence products. In addition, the results also show that the use-diffusion model is superior to the traditional model in analyzing the diffusion of digital convergence products.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 116~127
This research aims to improve the efficiency of production by selecting production configuration with high yield rate and lower error rate based on production history of steel pipe. To achieve this, we identify the properties of various types of MTO(make-to-order) steel pipe products and determine properties affecting yield rate and error rate using decision tree technique. From experimental results, we find out that specification is critical to determine yield rate and error rate of ERW steel pipes with mostly small and medium caliber, and an external diameter range in case of roll benders or spiral steel pipes with mostly large caliber. This research classified and embodied the patterns of yield rate and error rate mathematically by product properties.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 128~142
Since fairness issue has been found to be important in many different business contexts such as marketing, organizational psychology and management in general. The purpose of this exploratory study was to identify the factor structure of fairness and its effects on customer satisfaction and word-of-mouth. In this survey, we collected data from the respondents who have experienced online shopping from 61 online shopping companies. The data were analyzed by structural equation model using LISREL 8.5. The results indicated that fairness has a four-factor structure, which is composed of distributive, procedural, interpersonal, and informational fairness, which is different from three-factor structure. In addition, perceived justice as a second-order construct were found to have a positive effect on customer satisfaction and word-of-mouth intention. The study suggests that online shopping mall should increase customer satisfaction and positive word-of-mouth by enhancing multiple aspects related to fairness.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 163~182
The BSC(Balanced Scorecard), a strategic performance evaluation system, has drawn attention as an innovative tool for improving an organization's performance. Recently, the Korean government has recognized the advantages of the BSC and encouraged public enterprises to implement the BSC. However, it has been pointed out that many public enterprises have faced difficulties in constructing and operating the BSC due to lack of clear understanding, a complex environment of performance evaluation, and inherent features of organizational culture. Therefore, this study analyzed a project case of a public enterprise, Korea Southern Power (KSP), which has ever been assessed as an excellent organization in implementing BSC and managing performance. This paper provides procedures, activities, resources (manpower and time), and decision-making issues and criteria required for implementing BSC, along with real project outcomes of the company. Such project details are expected to be used as helpful guidelines for public or non-profit organizations's BSC implementation. Furthermore, the KSP's efforts to cope with its problems and implications derived from the efforts are also expected to help other organizations construct and operate the BSC effectively.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 14, issue 4, 2009, Pages 183~197
The purpose of this paper is to study whether there are differences in the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance among large, medium and small-sized enterprises. This study first assessed the immediate influence of IT utilization level on organizational performance, and then further examined the moderating effects of the organizational size and the environmental dynamism that had influences on the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance. The empirical test revealed that IT utilization level had significant impact on organizational performance in case of all sized enterprises. But, the sub-group analysis revealed that IT utilization level had no statistically significant impact on organizational performance in case of large enterprises despite of higher IT utilization level than small and medium-sized enterprises. The relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance was not moderated significantly by environmental dynamism in case of all sized enterprises. But, the sub-group analysis revealed that environmental dynamism had significant moderating effect on the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance in case of large and small-sized enterprises when there was a high level of environmental dynamism.
