Energy-Aware Scheduling Technique to Exploit Operational Characteristic of Embedded Applications

Efficient power management plays a crucial role to strengthen competitiveness in the market of portable mobile commodities. This paper presents a proactive power management technique, called by Energy-Aware Scheduling policY (EASY), to exploit the sleep time information of running applications. Different from previous power management approaches focusing on power conservation in standby mode, the proposed scheme characterizes each application program's operational characteristic in active mode by observing how long the task stays in sleep state of CPU scheduler. Based on the measured sleep time, the proposed EASY speculates an adequate CPU clock frequency according to the current CPU workload and scales the frequency directly to the predicted one. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the power consumption by 10-30% on average compared to traditional DPM approach, with a minimal impact on the performance overhead.
Enhanced Password-based Remote User Authentication Scheme Using Smart Cards

Secure and efficient authentication schemes over insecure networks have been a very important issue with the rapid development of networking technologies. Wang et al. proposed a remote user authentication scheme using smart cards. However, recently, Chen et al. pointed out that their scheme is vulnerable to the impersonation attack and the parallel session attack, and they proposed an enhanced authentication scheme. Chen et al. claimed that their scheme is secure against the various attacks. However, we have found that their scheme cannot resist the parallel attack and the stolen smart card attack. Therefore, in this paper, we show the security flaws in Chen et al.'s scheme and propose an improved remote user authentication scheme using tamper-resistant smart cards to solve the problem of Chen et al.'s scheme. We also analyze our scheme in terms of security and performance.
Laser pointer detection using neural network for human computer interaction

In this paper, an effective method to detect the laser pointer on the screen using the neural network algorithm for implementing the human-computer interaction system. The proposed neural network algorithm is used to train the patches without a laser pointer from the input camera images, the trained neural network then generates output values for an input patch from a camera image. If a small variation is perceived in the input camera image, amplify the small variations and detect the laser pointer spot in the camera image. The proposed system consists of a laser pointer, low-price web-camera and image processing program and has a detection capability of laser spot even if the background of computer monitor has a similar color with the laser pointer spot. Therefore, the proposed technique will be contributed to improve the performance of human-computer interaction system.
A study on energy harvesting time of Solar Cell battery for Sensor node

Ubiquitous network and wireless sensor networks is being applied in various fields. Located at target areas, node of wireless sensor network uses batteries as a power source. Batteries have a limited energy in sensor network applications. Also, before use, the battery must be charged and It is difficult to replace the battery. Therefore, energy harvesting technology is being researched and being developed for long life of sensor node. Especially, sola energy is being extensively researched. because that can have great amounts of energy than other environmental energy in a short time. In this study, we tested battery charging and recharging, operation of sensor node using Solar Cell. Also, monitoring data gathering and voltage Analysis showed energy harvesting time of Sola Cell battery for sensor node and operation of sensor node.
Design of Operating System for Wireless Sensor Nodes with Enhanced Remote Code Update Functionality

Sensor networks monitor the environment, collect sensed data, and relay the data back to a collection point. Although sensor nodes have very limited hardware resources, they require an operating system that can provide efficient resource management and various application environments. In addition, the wireless sensor networks require the code update previously deployed to patch bugs in program and to improve performance of kernel service routines and application programs. This paper presents EPRCU (Easy to Perform Remote Code Update), a new operating system for wireless sensor nodes, which has enhanced functionalities to perform remote code update. To achieve an efficient code update, the EPRCU provides dynamic memory allocation and program memory management. It supports the event-driven kernel, which uses priority-based scheduling with the application of aging techniques. Therefore, the proposed operating system is not only easy to perform wireless communication with the remote code update but also suitable for various sensor network applications.
A New Effective SAP ERP Education Approach Through The Development of Educational Virtual Company

Among the various ERP solutions, SAP R/3 solution has been chosen because SAP system follows global standard processes which include most of business solutions for various industries. The ERP education is limited by learning theory only and they are not sufficient for understanding wide scale of business processes. Real world scenarios with hands on experience approach will be the core aspect of this article. As per real world scenarios, "ChungBuk Motors. Corp." has been created and students are asked to create the organization structure and the procurement process for this virtual enterprise. As a result, students attending this class showed better understanding of overall ERP system comparing to the students attended other ERP classes. The hands-on experience with real-world scenarios proved that it is most practical and efficient solution for educating ERP system.
