An Improved 2-D Moment Algorithm for Pattern Classification

We propose a new algorithm for pattern classification by extracting feature vectors based on Gibbs distributions which are well suited for representing the characteristic of an images. The extracted feature vectors are comprised of 2-D moments which are invariant under translation rotation, and scale of the image less sensitive to noise. This implementation contains two puts: feature extraction and pattern classification First of all, we extract feature vector which consists of an improved 2-D moments on the basis of estimated Gibbs distribution Next, in the classification phase the minimization of the discrimination cost function for a specific pattern determines the corresponding template pattern. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, classification experiments with training document sets of characters have been carried out on SUN ULTRA 10 Workstation Experiment results reveal that the proposed scheme had high classification rate over 98%
Fuzzy Regression Analysis by Fuzzy Neual Networks: Application to Quality Evaluation Problem

This paper propose a fuzzy regression method using fuzzy neural networks when a membership value is attached to each input -output pair. First, an architecture of fuzzy neural networks with fuzzy weights and fuzzy biases is shown. Next, a cost function is defined using the fuzzy output from the fuzzy neural network and the corresponding target output with a membership value. A learning algorithm is derived from the cost function. The derived learning algorithm trains the fuzzy neural network so that the level set of the fuzzy output includes the target output. Last, the proposed method is applied to the quality evaluation problem of injection molding
Information Resource Management (IRM) : Empirical Study in the Service Industry

The great flowing of information has brought a necessity for good management to make the best use of it in the highly competitive information age. The aims of this study are to investigate the main information sources - divided into largely three groups : literature sources, communication and information technology facilities,), trying to find problem areas associated with IRM, indicating possible solutions. The result shows that internal information sources were regarded the most important and most frequently used. For the use of foreign materials, the higher the level of position is, the more people use them. With respect to communication methods, internal information sources were thought most important. With the dramatic falling of the price despite enormously increased functions, IT facilities are becoming important sources. However, the study reveals the use of them is quite limited to a few well-known facilities, witch indicates that management should pay attention to more efficient use of them and useful training and education methods.

Electronic Circuit System of a Portable Rl Gauge for Compaction Control

In this study, an objection is to develop a electronic circuit of a gauage using radioisotope for compaction control to be needed at public works The developed gauage makes use of radioisotope with the activity exempted from domestic atomic law and consists of measuring circuits for gamma-rays and thermal neutrons, a high voltage supply unit and a microprocessor. To obtain meaningful numbers of pulse counts, parallel five and tow circuits are provided for gamma-rays and thermal neutrons, respectively. Also, to minimize effects of natural environmental radiation and electrical noise, circuits are electrostatically shielded and pulses made by ripples are eliminated by taking frequency of high voltage supplied to the circuit and pulse height of ripples into consideration One-chip microprocessor is applied to process various counts, results are stored, Enough and meaningful numbers of pulses are counted with the prototype gauage for compaction control.
Generalized Exponential Regression Model with Randomly Censored Data

We consider generalized exponential regression model with randomly censored data and propose a modified Fisher scoring method which estimates the model parameters. For this, the likelihood equations are derived and then the estimating algorithm is developed. We illustrate the proposed method using a real data.
Implementation of Digital Filters on Pipelined Processor with Multiple Accumulators and Internal Datapaths

This paper presents a set of techniques to automatically find rate optimal or near rate optimal implementation of shift-invariant flow graphs on pipelined processor, in which pipeline processor has multiple accumulators and internal datapaths. In such case, the problem to be addressed is the scheduling of multiple instruction streams which control all of the pipeline stages. The goal of an automatic scheduler in this context is to rearrange the order of instructions such that they are executed with minimum iteration period between successive iteration of defining flow graphs. The scheduling algorithm described in this paper also focuses on the problem of removing the hazards due to inter-instruction dependencies.
Estimation for System Reliability under a Bivariate Weibull Distribution

In this paper, we study the estimation of system reliability for the parallel system based on Spurrier and Weier 〔9〕 bivariate Weibull distribution. We assume that when one component fails, the workload of the remaining component becomes proportional to ψλ, where ψ〉0. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of system reliability, and by using the numerical method, study the effects of reliability for the parallel system.
Automatic Edge Class Formulation for Classified Vector Quantization

In the field of image compression, Classified Vector Quantization(CVQ) reveals attractive characteristics for preserving perceptual features, such as edges. However, the classification scheme is not generalized to effectively reconstruct different kinds of edge patterns in the original CVQ that predefines several linear-type edge classes: vortical edge horizontal edge diagonal edge classes. In this paper, we propose a new classification scheme, especially for edge blocks based on the similarity measure for edge patterns. An edge block is transformed to a feature vector that describes the detailed shape of the edge pattern The classes for edges are formulated automatically from the training images to result in the generalization of various shapes of edge patterns. The experimental results show the generated linear/nonlinear types of edge classes. The integrity of all the edges is faithfully preserved in the reconstructed image based on the various type of edge codebooks generated at 0.6875bpp.
A genetic algorithm for determining the optimal operating policies in an integrated- automated manufacturing system

We consider a Direct Input Output Manufacturing System(DIOMS) which has a munber of machine centers placed along a built-in Automated Storage/Retrieval System(AS/RS). The Storage/Retrieval(S/R) machine handles parts placed on pallets for the machine centers located at either one or both sides of the AS/RS. This paper deals with the operational aspect of DIOMS and determines the optimal operating policy by combining computer simulation and genetic algorithm. The operational problem includes: input sequencing control, dispatching rule of the S/R machine, machine center-based part type selection rule and storage assignment policy. For each operating policy, several different policies are considered based on the known research results. In this paper, using the computer simulation and genetic algorithm we suggest a method which gives the optimal configuration of operating policies within reasonable computation time.
Procedures of Transform the IDEF3 Process Model of Concurrent Design into CPM Precedence Network Model

A major concern in Concurrent Engineering is the control and management of workload As a general rule, leveling the peak of workload in a period is difficult because concurrent processing is comprised of various processed, including overlapping, paralleling and looping and so on. Therefore workload management with resource constraints is so beneficial that effective methods to analyze design process are momentous. This paper presents a procedure to transform the IDEF3 process model into the precedence network model for more useful assessment of the process. This procedure is expected to facilitate resolving resource constrained scheduling problems more systematically in Concurrent Engineering environment.
A Bicriterion Scheduling Problems with Time/Cost Trade-offs

This paper discusses a bicriterion approach to sequencing with time/cost trade-offs. The first problem is to minimize the total flow time and the maximum tardiness. And second is to the maximum tardiness and resource allocation costs. This approach, which produces an efficient flintier of possible schedules, has the advantage that it does not require the sequencing criteria to be measurable in the same units as the m allocation cost. The basic single machine model is used to treat a class of problems in which the sequencing objective is to minimize the maximum completion penalty. It is further assumed that resource allocation costs can be represented by linear time/cost function.
An Empirical Study on the Acceptance of Information Technology by Agricultural Managers

The main objective of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of the antecedents of acceptance of information technology by agricultural managers. Questionnaires were administered to potential adopters and users of PC-based communications. Results indicate that potential adopters base their adoption decisions on a sparser set of innovation characteristics than suggested by innovation diffusion literature and users and potential adopters differ on their determinants of behavioral intention and attitude.
Implementation of A Morphological Analyzer Based on Pseudo-morpheme for Large Vocabulary Speech Recognizing

It is important to decide processing unit in the large vocabulary speech recognition system we propose a Pseudo-Morpheme as the recognition unit to resolve the problems in the recognition systems using the phrase or the general morpheme. We implement a morphological analysis system and tagger for Pseudo-Morpheme. The speech processing system using this pseudo-morpheme can get better result than other systems using the phrase or the general morpheme. So, the quality of the whole spoken language translation system can be improved. The analysis-ratio of our implemented system is similar to the common morphological analysis systems.
