Efficient Evaluation of Path Algebra Expressions
Lee, Tae-kyong ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 1~15
In this paper, an efficient system for finding answers to a given path algebra expression in a directed acylic graph is discussed more particulary, in a multimedia presentration graph. Path algebra expressions are formulated using revised versions of operators next and until of temporal logic, and the connected operator. To evaluate queries with path algebra expressions, the node code system is proposed. In the node code system, the nodes of a presentation graph are assigned binary codes (node codes) that are used to represent nodes and paths in a presentation graph. Using node codes makes it easy to find parent-child predecessor-sucessor relationships between nodes. A pair of node codes for connected nodes uniquely identifies a path, and allows efficient set-at-a-time evaluations of path algebra expressions. In this paper, the node code representation of nodes and paths in multimedia presentation graphs are provided. The efficient algorithms for the evaluation of queries with path algebra expressions are also provided.
A Multimedia Presentation Model in Distributed Environments
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 16~24
In the distributed multimedia document system, media objects distributed over a computer network are retrieved from their sources and presented to users according to specifed temporal relations. For effective presentation, synchronization have to he supported. Furthermore, presentation in distributed environments is influenced by network band with and delay, so they have to be considered for synchronization. This paper propose a distributed multimedia presentation model that supports synchronization effectively. In this model, when media objects are transfered from servers to a client, network situation and resources are monitored and thus a feedback message for change of them is sent to sever. Then, the sever adjusts the data sending rate to control synchronization.
Neural Network-based Recognition of Handwritten Hangul Characters in Form's Monetary Fields
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 25~30
Hangul is regarded as one of the difficult character set due to the large number of classes and the shape similarity among different characters. Most of the conventional researches attempted to recognize the 2,350 characters which are popularly used, but this approach has a problem or low recognition performance while it provides a generality. On the contrary, recognition of a small character set appearing in specific fields like postal address or bank checks is more practical approach. This paper describes a research for recognizing the handwritten Hangul characters appearing in monetary fields. The modular neural network is adopted for the classification and three kinds of feature are tested. The experiment performed using standard Hangul database PE92 showed the correct recognition rate 91.56%.
Design of Deadbeat Controller for DC Motor Driving a Rotational Mechanical System
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 31~36
This paper presents a design method of deadbeat controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear. The deadbeat-response design developed for control system of a sampled continuous-data process does not guarantee zero intersampling ripples, but the proposed deadbeat control system that consists of the integral controller and the full-order state observer, and zero-order hold using in continuous systems, has many advantages such as an output response without the ripples and reaching the steady state without error after a given sampling period and faster settling time than the optimal control system in the same sampling period. The results of a case study through matlab simulation are shown that the efficiency of the proposed controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear is verified by comparing with optimal controller etc.

Park, Roh-Gook ; Lee, Deok-Soo ;
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 47~52
This study objectively in examines materials related to factory rationalization of D Corp., a regionally based enterprise. One reason that previous factory rationalizations have not been all that effective is that each firm has not used strategies specially designed for it Despite the fact that each firm has a different culture, and different human and physical resources, the application of rationalization without any modifications has produced many problems. In order to stabilize the production system and reduce the capacity of the factory, D Corp. changed the basic 5 S's and stimulated the factory atmosphere through computer education. Rationalization stabilized and standardized the factory, and organized the physical resources and each area of the factory according to their place in the process of production. It also made improvements that verified the party responsible for the flow of the complex production system, and simplified analysis supervision of production, and ex post management. We think that the successful example of D Corp. can serve as a real, tangible model for small and medium regionally-based firms to follow.
Character Recognition System for the Components Used in Industry by the Information of Their Images
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 53~60
In this paper, we developed a character recognition system which could be applied to the automation of construction assembling, and testing process of components by the recognition of characters on the components used in industry department. In this system the image information of each component was caught by the CCD camera and then characters on the images were recognized automatically. If we apply the system to the industrial field it will meet the various requirements such as high productivity, low cost and high qualify products and factory automation.

Analysis of Sloping Ground When Lifting with Force Platform
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 77~86
Even manual materials handling tasks(MMHT) is decreasing by adopt of automatic manufacturing system & transportation supporting machine because of increase of productivity, wage lack of labor, safety, in fact working at inclined & complicated slope such as farm, orchard, harbor loading & unloading, logging place and mining place can't be substituted by machine perfectly. So, workers should do MMHT at this place by themselves, lifting on slope can cause much of hazard, include falling. Keeping balance net to slip can be a reason of low back pain(LBP) by overloaded musculoskeletal system but, there's no enough study about lift on slope. Therefore, In this study, we assessed and analyzed change of center of pressure(COP) when lifting on slope by force platform. The result showed that the length lengthen as increasing angle of slope. Especially, the length extremely increased over 15°. Through These basic result, present proper angle boundary, prevent industrial accidents and give proper data not only lifting but also pushing and pulling on slope someday.
The Relationship between the Task Characteristics and the Success Factors of End-User Computing
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 87~101
End-User Computing(EUC) is a rapidly growing phenomenon in organizations As EUC gets to be a major segment of information systems, it becomes more important to manage EUC effectively. This paper focuses on developing an integrative framework of EUC management in the contingent perspective. The characterstic of task for which EUC is implemented was considered as a contingent variable. Based on systematic review of previous research on success factors of EUC implementation, three generic variables for EUC management were identified theoretically, which were support, promotion and control. The contingent relationships between these three EUC management variables and EUC performance were reasoned and four hypotheses concerning these relationships were derived. A field study was undertaken to test the hypotheses. Data were collected from 83 End-Users belonging to Korean business organizations. Correlation analyses and Fisher's Z tests were employed to test the hypotheses. The results supported the hypotheses for the most part and gave implications and future research directions for the management for EUC.
Lossless image compression using subband decomposition and BW transform
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 5, issue 1, 2000, Pages 102~107
In general text compression techniques cannot be used directly in image compression because the model of text and image are different Recently, a new class of text compression, namely, block-sorting algorithm which involves Burrows and Wheeler transformation(BWT) gives excellent results in text compression. However, if we apply it directly into image compression, the result is poor. So, we propose simple method in order to improve the lossless compression performance of image. The proposed method can be divided into three steps. It is decomposed into ten subbands with the help of symmetric short kernel filter. The resulting subbands are block-sorted according to the method by BWT, and the redundancy is removed with the help of an adaptive arithmetic coder. Experimental results show that the proposed method is better than lossless JPEG and LZ-based compression method(PKZIP).
