EMG assessment of Muscle Fatigue on Sloping Ground When Lifting

Manual material handling(MMH)is major factor which causing physical injuries of worker at working area and frequency of low back pain(LBP) is increasing industrial accidents. Especially, working in bad circumstance such as farm, orchard, harbor loading and unloading, logging place and mining place which located in inclined slope can cause much possibility of hazard and absence of working balance can cause injuries of musculoskeletal system such as joint, bone, ligament. So, this study used EMG system to measure and evaluate muscle force information and fatigue of worker when lifting on slope. The result of measuring averaged integrated EMG(AEMG) shows multifidus muscle be used more than anything else in force. neck extensors are used at 15°, 20°frequently. generally the AEMG result shows multifidus muscle be used in force. Commonly, muscle fatigue of multifidus is higher than other muscle by analysis mean power frequency(MPF). The result of load sharing rate shows multifidus and erectorspinae which are deep spinal muscles is relatively high and neck extensor is low.
Content-based Image Retrieval Using Color and Chain Code

In this paper, we proposed a content-based image retrieval method using color and object's complexity for indexing of image database. Generally, the retrieval methods using color feature can not sufficiently include the spatial information in the image. So they are reduced retrieval efficiency. Then we combined object's complexity which extracted from chain code and the conventional color feature. As a result, experiments shooed that the proposed method which considers the shape feature improved performance in conducting content-based search.
Fast Codevector Search on Vector Quantization

Vector quantization(VQ) is widely used in many high-quality and high-rate data compression applications such as speech coding, audio coding, image coding and video coding. When the size of a VQ codebook is large, the computational complexity for the full codeword search method is a significant problem for many applications. A number of complexity reduction algorithms have been proposed and investigated using such properties of the codebook as the triangle inequality. This paper proposes a new fast VQ search algorithm that is based on a multi-stage structure for searching for the best codeword. Even using only two stages, a significant complexity reduction can be obtained without any loss of quality.
Connection Control Protocol and Parallel Interworking Model for the VB5.2 Interface

The VB5.2 interface of B-lSDN, that is located between an access network and a service node, allows dynamic allocation and release of ATM resources. In this paper, we propose the B-ANCC protocol of the VB5.2 interface to minimize the overall connection setup delay by introducing the access network. The B-ANCC protocol enhances the B-BCC protocol and adopts a parallel interworking function with signaling protocols in the service node. To confirm the correctness of the proposed B-ANCC protocol, we validate it using the automated validation tool, SPIN. We analyze and simulate the sequential interworking model based on the B-BCC protocol and the parallel interworking model based on the B-ANCC protocol, in terms of a connection setup delay and a completion ratio. It is shown that our proposed parallel interworking model with B-ANCC reduces a setup delay and improves a completion ratio compared to the sequential interworking model with B-BCC.
A Walsh-Hadamard Transform Adaptive Filter with Time-varying Step Size

One of the most popular algorithm in adaptive signal processing is the least mean square(LMS) algorithm. The majority of these papers examine the LMS algorithm with a constant step size. The choice of the step size reflects a tradeoff between misadjustment and the speed of adaptation. Subsequent works have discussed the issue of optimization of the step size or methods of varying the step size to improve performance. However there is as yet no detailed analysis of a variable step size algorithm that is capable of giving both the adaptation speed and the convergence. In this paper we propose a new variable step size algorithm where the step size adjustment is controlled by the gradient of error square. The proposed algorithm is performed in the Walsh-Hadamard domain in real-valued orthogonal transform because of fast convergence. The simulation results using the new algorithm for noise canceller system is described. They are compared to the results obtained by other algorithms. It is shown that the proposed algorithm produces good results compared with conventional algorithms.
Tests for Exponentiality by Kullback-Leibler Information

Recent]y van Es (1992) and Correa (1995) proposed an estimator of entropy. In this paper, we proposed the goodness of fit test statistics for exponentiality based on Vasicek's estimator and Correa's estimator of Kullback-Leibier Information. And we compare the power of the proposed test statistics with Kolmogorov-Sminov, Kuiper, Cramer von Mises, Watson, Andersen-Darling and Finkelstein and Schefer statistics.
An Improved Calibration Method for the COCOMO II Post-Architecture Model

To date many software engineering cost models have been developed to predict cost, schedule, and effort of the software under development. The COCOMO Ⅱ is well- suited for the new software development life cycle such as non-sequential and rapid- development processes. The traditional regression approach based on the least square criterion is the most commonly used technique for empirical calibration in the COCOMO Ⅱ model. It has a few assumptions frequently violated by software engineering data sets. The source data is also generally imprecise in reporting size effort, and cost-driver ratings, particularly across different organizations. And that the outlier for the source data is a peculiarity and indicates a data point. To cope with difficulties, in this paper, we propose a new regression method for calibrating COCOMO Ⅱ post-architecture model based on the minimum relative error(MRE) criterion. The characteristic of the proposed method is insensitive to the extreme values of the data in the empirical calibration. As the experimental results, It is evident that our proposed calibration method MRE was shown to be superior to the traditional regression approach for model calibration, as illustrated by the values obtained for standard deviation(^σ), and prediction at level LPRED(L) measures
Practical Target Word Selection Using Collocation in English to Korean Machine Translation

The quality of English to Korean Machine Translation depends on how well it deals with target word selection of verbs containing enormous ambiguity. Verb sense disambiguation can be done by using collocation, but the construction of verb collocations costs a lot of efforts and expenses. So, existing methods should be examined in the practical view points. This paper describes the practical method of target word selection using existing collocation and semantic distance computed from minimum semantic features of nouns.
Buckley-James Type Estimators for Entropy of Lifetimes under Random Censorship Model

In this paper, we propose two Buckley-James type nonparametric estimators for entropy of lifetimes under random censorship model. We investigate the small sample behaviors of the proposed estimators when the underlying distribution has decreasing failure rate, constant failure rate, and increasing failure rate. Also some examples are illustrated for analysing data.
EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT SCIENCE/OPERATIONS RESEARCH SOFTWARE: A SURVEY REVIEW

The purpose of this research was to investigate instructors perceptions on the use of quantitative educational software packages in management science and operations research (MS/OR) related courses. The investigation was conducted using a questionnaire survey of MS/OR instructors at US universities. The authors found that instructors were satisfied in the use of existing MS/OR educational software packages to effectively support their teaching in terms of computational speed, number of models offered, size of problems, and accuracy of algorithms. However, many instructors were not satisfied with the tutoring capability of packages such as 'what-if'analysis, graphics availability, explanation capacity, readability of output, and ease of use.
