Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 1~6
A theoretical method for the TE polarized electromagnetic scattering on a periodic strip grating over a grounded dielectric slab is considered. The numerical results for an analysis of the plane wave scattering from the structure are presented such as normalized mode amplitude and relative reflected power against normalized dielectric slab height, relative reflected power against angle of incidence and distribution of strip current density. Detailed discussions on the Bragg blazing phenomena observed in the geometry are give.
Digital Rights Management and Rights Language
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 7~13
The Internet presents a unique platform for disseminating digital content such as music, video, games, software, text, business and proprietary corporate information. It promises ubiquitous access, while at the same time fundamentally challenging the traditional rules of ownership and distribution of content. In such environment, safe protection and proper delivery of digital content would be a crucial requirement toward a new e-business model. Research on the Digital Rights Management (DRM) focuses on filling this functional vacancy of the market transition by providing a more viable business model based. XrML(eXtensible Rights Markup Language) provides a universal tool for specification of rights, fees, and issuing conditions(licenses) associated with the use and protection of digital content. ContentGuard has developed XrML to unify the Digital Rights Management(DRM) specifications and encourage interoperability. It seems that all working groups of DRM agree to use XrMl for their right description language.
Text extraction from camera based document image
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 14~20
This paper presents a text extraction method of camera based document image. It is more difficult to recognize camera based document image in comparison with scanner based image because of segmentation problem due to variable lighting condition and versatile fonts. Both document binarization and character extraction are important processes to recognize camera based document image. After converting color image into grey level image, gray level normalization is used to extract character region independent of lighting condition and background image. Local adaptive binarization method is then used to extract character from the background after the removal of noise. In this character extraction step, the information of the horizontal and vertical projection and the connected components is used to extract character line, word region and character region. To evaluate the proposed method, we have experimented with documents mixed Hangul, English, symbols and digits of the ETRI database. An encouraging binarization and character extraction results have been obtained.
A Consideration of Erosion Phenomenon in the Thinning algorithm using 8-Neighbors Connection Value without Skeleton Disappearance Phenomenon
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 21~29
The thinning algorithms using 8-neighbors connection value can extract the skeleton of a character almost similar to the original pattern by using the connection value representing connectivity of each pixel. This paper considers the erosion phenomenon which appears in the thinning algorithm using 8-neighbors connection value without skeleton disappearance phenomenon. The experimental results show that the proposed thinning algorithm can be applied to the application of both a straight line segment and a curved line segment.
Detection of Address Region of Standard Postal Label Images Acquired from CCD Scanner System
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 30~37
To effectively control a vast amount of postal packages, we need the automatic system for extracting the address region from CCD scanner images. In this paper, we propose a address region extraction algorithm in the standard postal label. We used geometric characteristics of the underlying address regions and defined several criteria for fast detection of address regions. As a result, we accomplished a successful detection and classification of the postal package labels in real time.
Design and Evaluation of Data Input/output for Video Conference System
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 38~44
In this paper, we propose the method in which multimedia data simultaneously transfers to the main memory and the multimedia processor from the network interface card to improve bottleneck of system bus through analysis for architecture of video conference system and input/output model. The proposed method can reduce the number of system bus accesses, bus cycles, data transmission time and compression ratio of video data in the video conference system. We compared the performance between the proposed method and the conventional methods in the multi-party video conference systems. The simulation results showed that the proposed method was reduced the transmission time of multimedia data than the conventional method.
Optimizing the Additional Term Weight Ratio in Query Expansion Search based on Dictionary Definition
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 45~53
The significances of this paper are of two points. One is that this research develops the query expansion search by adding the related terms based on the dictionary to the original query terms. This method shortens the process of the conventional model of query expansion utilizing the feedback data of the search. The other is that this research tries to find out the optimal point of precisions and recalls by differentiating the weight ratio between original quay and additional terms. This method shows that the efficiency and precision of query expansion search increase.

A Case Study of ASP-ERP necessary for transforming into an e-Business company
Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 62~71
A number of companies tries to transform into e-business organizations in order to enhance their productivity dramatically and create a new value for their customers. Even thought IT invenstment is essential to be an e-business company, it costs a great deal for mid-sized or small-sized companies. Thus, this study suggests a cost-saving and web-based IT outsourcing, application service provider (ASP) that is an applicable model to transform a traditional company into an e-business company. Although companies under mid-size are considering the ASP method when introducing ERP system, ASP is not widespread yet. Therefore, this study analyzes the actual cases of domestic firms which successfully implemented ASP-ERP and investigates the pros and cons of ASP method.

Journal of the Korea Industrial Information Systems Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2003, Pages 84~91
KOMPSAT series use software-controlled unregulated bus system in which the main bus is directly connected to a battery and the duty-ratio for PWM switch is controlled by the on-board satellite software. This paper proposes a new power-stage circuit that can be available for modularization of the power regulator which is used at the software-controlled unregulated bus system satellite. And we analyze the proposed power-stage operation according to its operating modes and verify it by performing software simulation and hardware experiment using prototype. We construct a parallel-module converter which is composed of proposed power-stages and perform experiment to verify modular characteristics of the proposed power-stage. Finally, we verify the usefulness of the proposed power-stage by comparing above results with those of a parallel-module converter made of conventional power-stages.
