An Estimation of Cumulative Exposure Model based on Kullback-Leibler Information Function

In this paper, we propose three estimators of Kullback-Leibler Information functions using the data from accelerated life tests. This acceleration model is assumed to be a cumulative exposure model. Some asymptotic properties of proposed estimators are proved. Simulations are performed for comparing the small sample properties of the proposed estimators under use condition of accelerated life test.
Lattice Conditional Independence Models Based on the Essential Graph

Recently, lattice conditional independence models(LCIMs) have been introduced for the analysis of non-monotone missing data patterns and of non-nested dependent regression models. This approach has been successfully applied to solve various problems in data pattern analysis, however, it suffers from computational burden to search LCIMs. In order to cope with this drawback, we propose a new scheme for finding LCIMs based on the essential graph. Also, we show that the class of LCIMs coincides with the class of all transitive acyclic directed graph(TADG) models which are Markov equivalent to a specific acyclic directed graph(ADG) models.
The Concatenated Coding Scheme for OFDM system over burst noise channel

In this paper, a concatenated RS and Turbo code is proposed for OFDM system over burst error channel. The concatenated code used in this study is a RS(255,202) code and a rate 1/2 turbo code. The turbo code uses 2 recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) code as the constituent codes and the parity bit are punctured to get the desired code rate. It is shown by simulation that the conventional OFDM system fails when there exists burst noise. The concatenated RS and turbo code obtains at least 5dB gain over the turbo code at the bit error probability of 10/sup -3/.
Boundary Surface Volume Rendering Based on Depth Buffer

This paper focuses on a boundary surface based ray casting. In general the boundary surface based ray casting is processed in two stages. The first stage finds boundary surfaces and stores them into buffers. The second stage calculates a distance from a viewpoint to the voxels of the interested area by projecting boundary surfaces on the view plane, and then starts to traverse a volume data space with the distance. Our approach differs from the general boundary surface based ray casting in processing the first stage of it. Contrast to the typical boundary surface based ray casting where all boundary surfaces of volume data are stored into buffers, they are projected on the planes aligned to the axis of volume data coordinates and these projected data are stored into 6 buffers. Such maneuver shortens time for ray casting, and reduces memory usage because it can be carried out independently from the amount of the volume data.
Real-time Recognition of Car Licence Plate on a Moving Car

In this paper, a system which can effectively recognize the plate image extracted from camera set on a moving car is proposed. To extract car licence plate from moving vehicles, multiple candidates are maintained based on the strong vertical edges which are found in the region of car licence plate. A candidate region is selected among them based on the ratio of background and characters. We also make a comparative study of recognition performance between support vector machines and modular neural networks. The experimental results lead us to the conclusion that the former is superior to the latter. For a better recognition rate, a simple method combining the support vector machine with modular neural network where the output of the latter is used as the input of the former is suggested and evaluated. As we expected, the hybrid one shows the best result among those three methods we have mentioned.
Performance Analysis of Distributed Directory System for Grid Information Service

Recently, as the number of entities participating in the Grid system increased, the response time of LDAP system became inadequate. Consequently, we have to design new LDAP that suitable for high performance Grid environments. For this, researches about analysis of performance LDAP system are needed firstly. However, because researches are focused mostly on read operation optimized environments, so these result of researches are not directly applied to high performance Grid environments that write operation occupies most. In this paper, we provide overall results of analysis of performance of distributed directory system. The analysis is based on an analytic performance model by applying the M/M/1 queuing model. Finally, based on the results, we suggest the direction for the design of high performance LDAP system and this research results can be applied as basic materials to design of GIS in high performance Grid environments as well as.
Design and Implementation of a Digital Library for the Visually Handicapped

Today, according to the rapid growing of internet, many homepages have been developed and given us useful information. Since most of these homepages do not consider the visually handicapped, it is very difficult for them to access information from internet. Although several hompages provide services for the visually handicapped now, they are very insufficient to provide information for them. Therefore, this research aims to develop a digital library for the visually handicapped so that they could easily get to the digital library without restriction of time and space, search information from it and use it. The system for digital library supports an interface through which the visually handicapped could easily and conveniently use it, which is developed with TTS based speech syntactic technique.
Edge extraction through the tangent plane smoothing and fractal dimensions

Most features of nature and phenomena we encounter in many branches of science are inherently very irregular and have fractal aspects. Thus the analysis of them with the traditional methods such as a differential operator may result in their ill-posed problems. To settle these problems, one may use several type of mean filters which smooth the input signal. However when a given function or data are complex in their nature, there may be loss of some original information during these process. In this paper, we utilized the tangent plane method instead of mean filters for the purpose of less loss of information and more smoothness. After then we attempt to take more accurate edges for the irregular image on the basis of the Otzu threshold. Finally we introduce the effective edge extracting method which use the fractal dimension representing the complexity of the given image.
Energy Efficient Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network

By the progress of communication and hardware technology, It is possible to organize wireless sensor nodes using the tiny sensor in recently. It is a critical aspect to minimize energy consumption for long-term lively sensor because wireless sensor nodes are associated with the available resources. The wireless sensor network is restricted in communication, exhaustion of power, and computation but it is very similar an Ad-Hoc network. Each sensor node products a few data and application layer of each sensor has slow transmitting feature. Unlike Ad-hoc, which is usually source or sink, base station of the each senor nodes works as sink and the other nodes except sink node works as source. Generally, wireless sensor network keep staying fixed state and observing circumstances continuously after setting up. It doesnt fit for the wireless sensor networks under functioning of existing ad-hoc networks because original Ad-Hoc network routing protocol couldnt operate for wireless sensor network features. This thesis propose the effective routing protocol way in the filed of the expanded routing protocol based on tree with considering on the characteristic of wireless sensor networks pattern.
Design of Patch Antennas using FEM

This paper presents analysis and design for Microstrip antennas using FEM (Finite Element Method). For the miniaturization of the antennas, dielectric substrate (ε/sub r/=4.6) and rectangular patch structure are used. The proposed Microstrip antennas are simulated using commercial simulator (HFSS). The results of the simulation are presented and compared with characteristics of each array type. Especial, the proposed antennas can be applied to the design of various communication systems for 2.4 GHz band.
Optical wavelet filter for Rotation and Scale-Invariant Pattern Recognition of images with Noise

For scale and rotation invariant pattern recognition of images with noise, an optical wavelet CHF-fSDF filter is proposed. Wavelet CHF-fSDF filter is synthesized by each single CHF extracted from scale-changed and wavelet transformed images for a referene image as training images. The proposed optical wavelet CHF-fSDF filter is the type of the matched filter so that it can use the structure of 4f optical correlation system. The results of computer simulation show that the proposed filter has the rotation and scale-invariant correlation output and it is useful in the noisy input.
Design of a Slot Type CDMA Wireless Communication Module on the Celluar Band

CDMA is the way that more than one users can share the time and frequency at the same time and connect with multiple access in mobile communication. Multiple Access is indispensible for mobile communication because the limited frequency is able to be used by many users in mobile communication. CDMA is also applied to home network, military, business and medical sectors. This paper, presents a users should share limited frequency resource. CDMA module implemented with 8-layer PCB which consists of the Slice-board circuit, keeping Radio frequency characteristics and a slot type connector.
