Vibration Analysis of the Continuous Circular Cylindrical Shell with the Clamped-clamped Supports at Two End Edges

The continuous circular cylindrical shells are widely used for the high performance structures of aircraft, spacecraft, missile, nuclear fuel rod shell and so on. In this paper, a method for the vibrational analysis of the continuous circular cylindrical shells with the clamped-clamped supports at two end edges is developed by using the modal expansion method. Forces and/or moments acting on the shell surface are expressed in terms of the Dirac Delta Function. Frequency equation of the continuous shell is also derided by the application of the equilibrium of forces and the continuity of displacements at the boundary. Natural frequencies of the continuous shell are calculated numerically with mathematica 3.0 and they are compared with FEM results from the ANSYS 5.3 to improve the reliability of analytic solutions. Mode shares obtained by the FEM are Presented in this paper.
Optimal Design of Crank Angles for Reducing the Excitation Forces in a Diesel Engine

The excitation forces from the periodical firing pressure in cylinder and the rotating crank mechanism cause lots of vibration problems in diesel engines. In this Paper. the computational program for predicting the excitation force is developed and applied to 4-stroke In-line engines. The crank angle is also optimized to reduce the first and second order moment produced by engines. Compared to the conventional uniform crank angle, about 70 % of the first order horizontal and vertical moment can be reduced by re-designing the crank angle non-uniformly.
A Detail Investigation on Coupled Lateral and Torsional Vibration Characteristics in a Speed Increasing Geared Rotor-bearing System

Applying a general coupled lateral and torsional vibration finite element model of gear pair element, this paper intends to look into in detail the coupled lateral and torsional vibration characteristics of a turbo-chiller rotor bearing system, having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Investigations have been carried out systematically by comparing the uncoupled and coupled natural frequencies and their mode shapes upon varying the gear mesh stiffness with considerations on rotating speeds, and also by comparing the strain energies of lateral and torsional vibration modes. Results hale shown that some modes may hale the coupled lateral and torsional mode characteristics as the gear mesh stiffness Increases over a certain value, and moreover that their associated dominant modes may be different from their initial modes, j.e., a certain dominant mode may change from an initial torsional one to a lateral one or from an initial lateral one to a torsional one.
Frequency-shaped Sliding Mode Control of Isolation Table Equipped with Precision devices

This paper presents the design of an active vibration suppression controller for an air-spring type vibration isolation table. Firstly, isolation system model is constructed considering the isolation table, attached equipment and voice-coil actuator. An active control system is designed based on frequency-shaped sliding mode control theory rewarding high frequency uncertainties with respect to attached equipments on the isolation table. Finally. the performance of the active isolation system is evaluated by simulation under some disturbance conditions which are transmitted from base structure of the isolation system.
Dynamic Behavior of a Simply Supported Fluid Flow Pipe with Moving Masses

A simply supported pipe conveying fluid and the moving masses upon it constitute this vibrational system. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange`s equation. The influence of the velocity and the inertia force of the moving masses and the velocities of fluid flow in the pipe have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipw by numerical method. The velocities of fluid flow are considered within its critical values of the simply supported pipe without the moving masses upon it. Their coupling effects on the transverse vibration of a simply supported pipe are inspected too. The dynamic deflection of the simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased by a coupling of the moving masses and the velocities of the moving masses and the fluid flow. When four or five regular interval masses move on the simply supported pipe conveying fluid, the amplitude of the simply supported pipe conveying fluid is small at low velocity of the masses, but at high velocity of the masses the deflection of midspan of the pipe is increased by coupling with the numbers and magnitude of the masses. The time which produce the maximum dynamic deflection of the simply supported pipe is delayed according to the increment of the number of moving masses.
A Study on the Combined Use of Exact Dynamic Elements and Finite Elements

Although the finite element method has become an indispensible tool for the dynamic analysis of structures, difficulty remains to quantify the errors associated with discretization. To improve the modeling accuracy, this paper proposes a method to make a combined use of finite elements and exact dynamic elements. Exact interpolation functions for the Timoshenko beam element are derived using the exact dynamic element modeling (EDEM) and compared with interpolation functions of the finite element method (FEM). The exact interpolation functions are tested with the Laplace variable varied. A combined use of finite element method and exact interpolation functions is presented to gain more accurate mode shape functions. This paper also presents a combined use of finite elements and exact dynamic elements in design/reanalysis problems. Timoshenko flames with tapered sections are tested to demonstrate the design procedure with the proposed method. The numerical study shows that the combined use of finite element model and exact dynamic element model is very useful.
Evaluation of Analytical Vibration Characteristics for Triple Cylindrical Shells Filled with Fluid

The free vibration characteristics of the triple cylindrical shells filled with fluid are investigated. The triple cylindrical shells are filled with compressible fluid. The boundary condition is clamped at both ends. Analytical method is developed to evaluate natural frequencies of triple cylindrical shells using Sanders` shell theory and courier series expansion by Stokes` transformation. Their results are compared with those of finite element method to verify the validation of the method developed. The modal characteristics of shells filled with fluid at region 1, 2 and 3 are evaluated.
Using of Transfer Matrix for Shaft Element and Vibration Analysis

Based on the analytic expression for the elasto-dynamic behavior of rotating shaft, the transfer matrix is formulated for the shaft element with uniform cross-section. Timoshenko beam theory is Introduced for modeling the behavior of shaft. Complex variables representing the displacement, slope, moment and shear force are used for deriving the transfer matrix between both ends of the shaft element. Simulation result obtained by applying the transfer matrix to a general rotor model is compared with the reference result and proved to be exact. Natural frequencies and the corresponding modes are analyzed with varying the bearing: stiffness. The generally used bearings are considered for discussions. and the bearing stiffness is shown to affect the vibration characteristics of rotor.
