Fluid-structure Interaction Analysis of Large Sandwich Panel Structure for Randomly Distributed Wind Load considering Gust Effects

Because of the high specific stiffness and strength inherent in the sandwich structure composed of facesheet that resists in-plane loads and a core that resists out-of-plane loads, it is often used for large and light-weighted structures. However, inevitably the increased flexibility allows greater deformation-based disturbances in the structures. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the structural safety. To obtain more accurate analytical results, the input disturbances must more closely simulate real load conditions; to improve accuracy, non-linear elements such as gust effects were considered. In addition, the structural safety was analyzed for the iso-grid sandwich panel structure using fluid-structure interactions. For a more realistic simulation, flow velocity fields, which consider the effects of irregular gust fluctuation, were generated and the coupled field was analyzed by mapping the pressure and displacement.
Weight Lightening of HUMS Housing for Small Aircraft by Using FEM and Taguchi Method

It is true that the dependency on import is currently high in case of the safety checkup system of domestic airplanes, and it is at the point of time that localization of HUMS for small airplanes is required. In this study, the design factors were selected for the lightweight of HUMS for small airplanes by using Pro-Engineer which is a design tool and Abaqus. 9 models were made through experiment plans with Taguchi method for this, and the each model for weight lightening was selected through vibration analysis and shock analysis while in operation with experiment profile values. After fabricating HUMS, it was verified that as a result of experiment with the same profile values as the analysis, there was similarity between the analyzed values and values of the experiment. As a result of performing weight lightening which is the purpose of the study, electronic performance for small airplanes is assured and a design plan reducing 15 % weight compared to the targeted weight was deduced. Besides, it could be verified that the light weight model satisfied the maximum allowable displacement value of PCB[printed circuit board] and accordingly satisfied electronic properties of HUMS. In this study, the reliability of a product was certified through the result of an experiment on ground. If the reliability of HUMS were verified through a test flight in the future, it is considered that it would make a big contribution to localization of aerospace electronic equipment.
A Study on the Improvement Plan of Construction Noise Monitoring

Noise generated from Construction site has been raised most civil complaints to 64.4 % among the environmental pollution in 2011. Therefore, local government recommends and prescribes that construction sites over a certain scale install sound level meter for noise monitoring. For example, Seoul has implemented a 24 hour noise monitoring system, with real time communication, to the large construction sites more than 10,000
from the end of August 2012. But it is difficult to use noise measurement data for the construction noise assessment, since the installation standards and technical specifications for construction noise monitoring system are not presented. In this paper, we proposed noise monitoring system improvement plan including technical specifications and installation standards using the investigating results of the problems of current noise monitoring system and the foreign cases.
Dynamic Characteristics Modification of Damaged Composite Structure Using MFC and Active Control Algorithm

In this work, active control algorithm is adopted to reduce delamination effects of the damaged composite structure and control performance with MFC actuator is numerically evaluated. Finite element model for the damaged composite structure with piezoelectric actuator is established based on improved layerwise theory. In order to achieve high control performance, MFC actuator, which has increased actuating force, is considered as a piezoelectric actuator. Mode shapes and corresponding natural frequencies for the damaged smart composite structure are studied. After design and implementation of active controller, dynamic characteristics of the damaged smart composite structure are investigated.
Estimation of the Sound Radiation Efficiency of the Hull Considering the Type and Natural Frequency of Plates of It

The definition of the radiation efficiency is very important to estimated underwater radiated noise of a ship. Considering the structure of the ship, it can be found that the hull of a ship consists of a lot of plates supporting by longitudinal and transverse stiffener. Therefore, various modes of the hull vibration occur related to the combination of these plates including stiffeners. In this paper, the method to define the radiation efficiency is suggested considering the vibration mode of the hull based on Uchida`s experimental equation of the radiation efficiency. The suggested method is verified by the experiments with various kinds of naval vessels.
Optimum Design of 3-Axis Sensor System for Vibration Measurement Using Piezoresistive type MEMS Sensor

3-Axis sensor measurement system is needed for measuring ride quality of elevator. But because 3-Axis piezoelectric accelerometer is expensive. We developed 3-Axis sensor system which is suitable for measuring ride quality of elevator using cheap MEMS sensor. There are two types of MEMS sensor that are piezoresistive and capacitive type. The excellence of piezoresistive type in characteristic of frequency response and noise is confirmed compare to capacitive type as a result of this paper`s experiment and reference. 3-Axis system using MEMS sensor needs MEMS`s proper frequency response characteristic. Additionally noise characteristic of sensor and circuit, stiffness of assembly are needed for deciding frequency range and accuracy of amplitude.
Squeak Noise of Ceramic-on-ceramic Hip Joint using FEM

This paper describes the FEM analysis for squeak problem of the ceramic-on-ceramic hip joint system. The onset of hip squeak is estimated by the positive real parts of the eigenvalues in the hip joint system. From the complex eigenvalue analysis, the unstable frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are determined at the certain severe friction coefficients. It is found that some bending and torsion modes of the femoral stem can be unstable due to the mode-coupling mechanism. It also shows that the magnitude of the friction coefficient plays a key role on the occurrence of hip squeak.
Analytical Evaluation of Airborne Noise for the Building Structure` on Railway Transportation Systems

The useful practical land shall be reserved when an artificial land covers the railway and road. However, the problem is that since the artificial land places directly on the top of noise sources likely on the railway and road there will arise the weak points, noise and vibration. On this study based on creating the artificial land on the top of a railway vehicle base and placing a tenement on that land, it was comprehended the noise influence from the railway car through the simulation. In order to secure the input value for the simulation, at first measured the noise condition of the railway station building and the railway vehicle base. The output value for the railway station building (place A) was around (53.6~57.6) dB(A), the equivalent continuous sound level for an hour, and for the railway station building (place B) it was around (63.7~68.9) dB. The maximum outdoor noise of the tenement on the artificial land was measured as 64.1 dB(A) under the fixed condition on the simulation modeling. The built purpose of placing the artificial land to prevent the noise influence from the railway met the expectation to be less influenced on the tenement. Rather, because of placing the artificial land the noise level on the lower space could be increased so there requires having a noise control.
Lateral Dynamics of Multi-span Web System for Roll-to-roll Continuous Process

Based on the string, Euler beam, and Timoshenko beam theories, the transfer functions of axially translating web system to predict the lateral tracking are introduced in this paper. In addition, total transfer function of a multi-span web handling system is developed by the combination of the transfer functions of each single span. Experiments and computations are carried out and the results obtained for the Timoshenko beam model are compared with those of other models. The comparison indicates that the predictions from the Timoshenko and Euler beam models are quite different from that of the classical string model in both the gain and phase response. The results are expected to help in the development of high fidelity models of web tracking systems within a general computational framework.
Assessment of Annoyance Cause by Different Types of Construction Noises

In the present study, annoyance caused by diverse construction noises was evaluated through surveys. A survey with a total of 110 construction workers was carried out to investigate annoyance from construction noises at different construction phases. The most effective item of adverse by construction noise was annoyance and the most annoyed construction stage was destruction construction. There were high correlation between work performance and work safety as well as work safety and speech interference. Participant`s noise sensitivity were significant between low and high group at work performance, work safety, speech interference.
Verification of Effectiveness of the Standard Floor Impact Source by Comparing with Living Impact Sources

The standard impact sources, standardized to rate the sound insulation performance of floor structure, should simulate well the real floor impact sources, which is very important to grade the floor structure then to establish counter plan to improve the performance of floor. Recently the tire, the standard heavyweight impact source, has been discussed that the impact force is too big to represent the real impact force. And researches have been carried on the applicability as a substitute or a supplementary. In addition, tapping machine, the standard lightweight impact source, is also questionable if it is representative of real lightweight impact source. This study aims to examine the similarity of standard impact sources with living impact sources, comparing the physical characteristics such as impact force, frequency contents and sound level. The result showed that the physical characteristics of standard impact sounds were somewhat different with that of living impact sounds, and the standard sources couldn`t be verified from this result. Later subjective evaluation should be followed to compare how the physical differences make relationship with the subjective differences.
