Characteristics of Pyrophyllite Aggregate fired at Low Temperature(II)

The continuous grading method of pyrophyllite particles was adopted to prepare the refractories for ladle. The optimum conditions of fabrication adjusting the binders, the amount of water, the forming pressure and the firing temperature were investigated. The various properties, such as strength, density, porosity, thermal shock, corrosion resistance to slag were measured and compared with properties of ladle bricks presently used at local steel plants. The specimen studied in the present investigation showed a rather superior properties to theconventional product available locally.

Studies on Thermostable Ceramic Resistors

On the Rapid Hardening Cement (I)

As the major alumina source, domestic alunite was applied to synthesize the clinker for rapid hardening cement. The main minerals of the clinker were found to be C3S, C11A7-CaF2 and some C4AF by means of chemical treatment, x-ray diffraction analysis and microscopic observation. Rapid hardening cement was made of the clinker by adding suitable amount of hemi-hydrite and anhydrite. The setting time of the cement was regulated with citric acid as setter.
A Study on Acid Treatment of Borosilicate Glass

The experiment has been carried out to clarify the condition of acid treatment for preventing the crack formation caused by swelling and shrinking during acid leaching process. The borosilicate glass contained phosphorous pentoxide was chosen as the sample, which is recognized to be more homogeneous in phase separation. The various effects, such as kind, cocentration and acid temperature, were investigated. The experimental results are summerized as follows. (1) Sulfuric acid is more stable than hydrochrolic acid for preventing the crack. (2) The optimum concentration of acid lies in the range of 0.1~0.3N. (3) Higher temperature of the acid to treat the separated glass was more stable than lower temperature. (4) The rate of crack decreased with the longer period and the higher temperature of the heat treatment.
