A Study on the Competitive Position and Strategic Exportable Goods of Korea Focused on Korea-China-Japan Fisheries Products Class
Kim, Ki-Soo ; Woo, Ji-Hyo ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 38, issue 3, 2007, Pages 1~24
This study examines the relative competitive position of korean fisheries products market over period of 2001 to 2005 and selects strategic exported goods from its position provide against concluding FTA agreement with China and Japan. The portfolio approach is used to develope competitiveness-market share matrix. The position of each export countries on the competitiveness market share matrix will be in one of nine cells, with differing implications for their role in korean fisheries products market. Based the competitiveness market share matrix, each export countries are divided into first cell type, third cell type and ninth cell type and the items of ninth cell type are chosen as strategic exportable goods. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, in the case of each country change aspect, China is trending to decrease quantity but shows number of item that increase gradually with high share still, and look trend that increase third cell type item too gradually, and in case of first cell type item is that competitive position is high more relatively than the Korea. In the case of Japan, ninth cell type item is falling gradually, and share does not show big change generally in case of first cell type item. Second, in the case of strategic exportable goods that analyze using domestic competitive position cell type and MCA with competitive position in domestic fisheries products market and export market, was appear by codfish(frozen), cuttle fish(frozen) etc. in case with China, and by mackerel(frozen), other sea bream(frozen), laver(dry), bathing(dry) etc. in case with Japan. And analyzed goods that have all export competitive advantages in both countries are roes of alaska pollack(frozen), other roes of fish(except frozen roes of alaska pollack), squid(frozen) etc.
The Legal Improvement to turn a Fishery Facility to Tourism Resources
Lee, Seung-Woo ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 38, issue 3, 2007, Pages 25~51
Recently those who visit a fishing village is increasing. So the government's policymaker is interested in a tourism of fishing village. There are a lot of local governments that they turn it to good account to activate the fishing community. So they plan for the tourism facility in the fishing village and invest in it. The fishery facility can playa role in it. Nonetheless it is not playing a role in tourism facility. Though the breakwaters projecting far into the sea are good waterfront, most of them are not reflecting the function of it. And fishery facility producing seed is a good resource of eco-tourism, but it is yet a tourist potential. Although the artificial reef is going far toward promoting a fishery resource, it is seldom used as a tourism resource. The multiple functions of fishery facilities have to be improved to raise the investment effect of them. Especially the tourism function has to be added on their basic function. The multiple functions of fishery facilities is necessary to satisfy tourist's needs. In results, not only their value but also value of fishing village will be raised.
A study on Improvement of Amenity in the Coastal Landscapes - centered to the ports of Busan -
Yhang, Wii-Joo ; Gu, Bon-A ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 38, issue 3, 2007, Pages 53~65
This study was to analyze amenity of the port landscapes for North port, South port, and Gamcheon port in Busan. Amenity related variables came from Semantic Differential(SD) method and then were conducted by the factor analysis. Multiple regression was done for the relationship between the amenity and factors. The result found 3 factors, including dynamics, stability, and familarity. Much importance was placed on dynamics among them. Therefore, building port landscapes and their image attracting tourists should consider dynamics in terms of port landscape plan and tourist attraction development for amenity quality management.
The Comparative Evaluations of the Factor Weights for a Successful Sea-ranching Project based on AHP
Park, Cheol-Hyung ; Pyoh, Hee-Dong ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 38, issue 3, 2007, Pages 67~88
This study is to estimate the factor weights for a successful sea-ranching project using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Furthermore, it investigates the policy implications revealed by the differences in group opinions throughout fishermen, government officials, researchers and the scholars when the weights are assessed. The hierarchy is constructed for the 3 levels of factors which must be evaluated for a successful sea-ranching project. The top level of factors is divided by the ecological factors and the socioeconomic factors. As the middle level of factors, there are 3 factors such as the choice of fish, the habitat environment and the production technology under the ecological factors and another 3 factors such as the stability of fishery society, economic factors, and the law & system under the socio-economic factors. And then, at the bottom level of the hierarchy, the economic factors have two different sub-factors such as the fishing revenue and cost. The law & system has also 3 sub-factors such as the accessibility to sea-ranching area, fishing method, and surveillance. The fishermen and government officials show us quite opposite tendencies in assessments of the weights while both the researchers and scholars reveal almost the same opinions positioned at somewhere between first two groups. The study also reports the evaluations of efficiency measures for resource recovery methods among the sea-ranching project, artificial reef, release of fish seeds, and marine protection area. Both the sea-ranching project and marine protection area have the same efficiency in terms of resource recovery while the artificial reef and release of fish seeds are revealed as somewhat less efficient methods comparing to the former two methods.
A Study of Middleman's Functions in Fisheries Port Market
Jang, Young-Soo ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 38, issue 3, 2007, Pages 89~108
The purpose of the study are summarized as follows: First, it has researched the new functions of middleman in Fisheries Port Market. Second, the new functions which middleman have to perform in Fisheries Port Market consist of the origin function, marketing function, logistics function. The origin function consists of the discrimination of fish species and freshness, making the price by auction, financing, etc. Marketing function consists of various species assortment from not only fisheries port market but also non fisheries port market as frozen and import fish markets, finding the new selling markets as not broker but wholesaler, making the price and margin non through the action, processing, etc. Logistics function consist of fish stock, delivery Third, it has recognized the upcoming important problems by building up the new functions as middleman in Fisheries port Market. This study has used a questionnaire to verify 3 hypotheses. Research model, factor analysis, regression analysis. The result of this study are summarized as follows: The origin function influences positively on the effectiveness of middleman's performance in Fisheries port Market. Marketing function influences positively on the effectiveness of middleman's performance. However, logistics function did not directly influences on the effectiveness of middleman's performance.
