Developing an Evaluation Tool of RFID-based Traceability Systems
Kim, Jin-Baek ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 1~23
Recently, traceability systems are introduced as a new food safety information system. To trace food products efficiently, they must have an automatic identification capability at the individual product level. This capability can be gained through RFID technology. But there is not yet any performance evaluation tool on RFID-based traceability systems (RFID-TS). This study developed an evaluation tool of RFID-TS. To develop the tool, this study considered the objective and the components of RFID-TS as their performance constructs. According to Churchill's paradigm, the tool was established through two stages. The final evaluation tool consisted of four constructs (risk, operational benefits, IS (information system), and network) and nine sub-constructs. Among the four constructs, risk and IS were found as the most important performance constructs through regression analysis. Among the nine sub-constructs, service (which belonged to the IS construct) and economic risk (which belonged to the risk construct) were found as the most important performance sub-constructs.
A Study on the Income Inequality among the Fishing Communities in Korea
Ock, Young-Soo ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 25~47
The Fishing Communities (so-called Uchongae) in Korea was legally established in 1962. It has been gradually expanded by quantity, and we have total 1,969 communities in 2006. The major establishment purpose of Uchongae was put 2 functions. The first function is to make up the double industry structure in coastal region, and second function is to make economical condition for Uchongae. Nevertheless the Fishing Communities System in Korea was not successfully developed after first beginning. The Income gap have become heavily between fishing area and non - fishing area, including agricultural area. The income gap has been due to rapid industrialization and urbanization in Korea. And the income gap even have become heavily among Uchongaes. In this paper, It have been researched the degree of Income inequality among Uchongaes in Korea during 1986-2006. The income inequality degree was analyzed by Gini coefficient and Mean Log Deviation (MLD) using Lorenz Curve. According to analysis result, the Gini coefficient of Uchongaes in Korea has been about 2-times high from 0.0847 to 0.1770 during 20 years. And the MLD has been 5.4 times from 0.0125 to 0.0679 during same periods. This means to more wide the general Income Inequality among the Uchongaes in Korea. Especially, It means to more wide the gap of high ranking Uchongaes and low ranking Uchongaes that MLD index multiplier has been more high.
A Data Envelopment Analysis Model for Evaluation of Efficiency of Deep-Sea Fishing Industry
Kim, Jae-Hee ; Choi, Kang-Deuk ; Kim, Soo-Kwan ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 49~65
In Korea, deep-sea fishing industry is faced with pressure of being thrown out of business, because of the upcoming unfavorable business conditions such as the fishing regulation of coastal countries, Korea-US Free Trade Agreement(KORUS FTA), and the other socio-economic changes. Hence, we present an evaluation of future business competitive for the deep-sea fishing industry so that the government can develop a concession plan for the deep-sea fishing industry by utilizing the results of this study. In efficiency analysis of deep-sea fishing industry, the decision maker may have two problems: (1) how to deal with multiple inputs and outputs of deep-sea fishing industry and (2) how to assign the weights on different inputs and outputs, In this paper, we proposed to use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to estimate efficiency of deep-sea fishing industry with multiple inputs and outputs. In the DEA, The direct impact of KORUS FTA, fishing regulation of coastal countries, fishing charges, and competitive fishing conditions were used as input parameters while the profitability and secured fishing quarters, as outputs. The results of DEA-BCC model indicate that 6 out of 12 DUMs have better efficiency under variable return to scale assumption.
A Study on the Inter-relations of Fishery Industry among Korea, China and Japan - An Application of Asian International Input-Output Table -
Shin, Seung-Sik ; Koo, Kyoung-Mo ; Oh, Yong-Sik ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 67~90
In this study, we aimed to build the basic calculation model for linkage effects of fishery industry among Korea, China and Japan. For the calculation, we reconstructed the asian international input-output table, and on the basis of the reconstructed table, we made some analyses on the inter-relations among 3 nations focusing fishery industry. As the results, some positive backward linkage offsets of the fishery industries were found among 3 nations, and especially, production inducing effect of Chinese fishery industry to Japanese supplier was remarkable.
The Effect of Import Increase for Korea's Fishery by Korea-GSTP Ground
Choi, Jong-Du ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 91~109
The worldwide proliferation of regional trade agreements combined with rising interests of 37countries has led to the emergence of a possible GSTP between each country. Although there are many obstacles to GSTP, its effect, if a realized, will go beyond trade related issues. This study was to specify and estimate a model of Korea-GSTP Ground in Korea that can be used to evaluate and improve management decisions. The development of the model relied on several submodels. On the trade negotiation side, a import demand function was estimated in order to account for the increasing amount of import. In terms of margin of preference(MOP)s, they were used to estimate values after decreasing tax based on scenarios I, II, and III. The results showed that the highest effects for increasing value and amount of import are a freezing crab(HS code 0306143000) and freezing hairtail(HS code 0303793000). This paper will be provide to help policy makers understand the Korea-GSTP Ground in the Korea fishery.
A Study on the Reinforcement of the competitive power of Korean Inland Fisheries
Kim, Dae-Young ;
The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 111~137
Fisheries resources living in inland have continuously reduced due to over-fishing and development thoughtless for the environment. Inland fisheries that target the fisheries resources have been also confronted by several problems such as insufficiency of inland fisheries management systems, inconsistent fisheries management system, inferior infrastructure of inland fisheries, and decreasing fishermen's real income. These problems have demotivated fishermen who want to focus on fishing and farming activation. Therefore, this paper provides alternatives of reorganization for turning to sound and healthy inland fisheries industries by reviewing Korean inland fisheries management systems. The reorganization should be preferentially granted resource management by water system considering geographical conditions, seed release, and establishment of fisheries order for maintenance of sound and healthy inland fisheries. Also, the reorganization should be moved toward the competitive strengthening of "company unit" for inland fisheries, the nourishment of fisher-oriented fisheries management system, strong relationship among inland fishermen, the systematic management of inland fisheries, the strengthening of guidance service for inland fisheries, the extension of infrastructure related to fisheries production, the development of inland fisheries policy including public people, and the improvement of inland fisheries system and law reflecting various users of inland fisheries.

The Journal of Fisheries Business Administration, volume 39, issue 3, 2008, Pages 139~170
Considering the educational influence in university, developing and coordinating curriculum is important for faculty members, students and other stakeholders. In spite of the structural shift of society and environmental diversity, there are few research that analyzing or examining the curricular constitution and change till quite recently. This paper aims to explore the curricular constitution and change between 1987 and 2008 in fisheries business administration based on time-series analysis and also analyzes fisheries business administration curriculum through investigation of other course of studies in many colleges and cross-check the difference and similarity between Gyeongsang national university and Pukyeong national university in Korea. The result of this study shows that most of the fisheries business administration subjects in past days are dramatically revised and enhanced and also there are some difference and similarity concurrently between Gyeongsang national university and Pukyeong national university. The analyzing curriculum of fisheries business administration will help develop sustainable curricular constitution against further change and give more advantage for identifying the essence of fisheries business administration.
