Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Education, volume 24, issue 2, 2012, Pages 137~145
DOI : 10.13000/JFMSE.2012.24.2.137
In order to survey the conditions of bycatch and discards for a gape net, a series of filed surveys was carried out total 10 surveys on two gape nets operated in the coastal area of Jindo during July to November 2008. The all catches in each survey were measured the body length, weight after sorted species. The analysis of catch data was conducted to separate 'first operation' and 'general operation'. In this study, the first operation defined as hauling the fishing gears that soaked over 10 hours because of setting on the previous day. The general operation means the haul of fishing gears conducted at intervals of one of or two hours after first operation. The bycatch in this study is defined as the other species except for anchovy, and bycatch rate refers to the proportion of bycatch to total catch. From the survey results, the average bycatch rates on first operations were 50% and 51% for Masa-ri and Supum-ri areas in Jindo, respectively. Also, the average bycatch rates on general operation were 2% and 3% for Masa-ri and Supum-ri areas in Jindo, respectively. The proportion of anchovy to total catch caught represented 75.5%. It needs the research on the selective fishing technology to reduce the bycatch on the gape net fishery.

Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Education, volume 24, issue 2, 2012, Pages 203~209
DOI : 10.13000/JFMSE.2012.24.2.203
We investigated the effect on dietary EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) source (EP) into formulated diets for growth of brackish flea, Diaphanosoma celebensis. The highest density and specific growth rate (SGR) of brackish fleas were observed on Tetraselmis suecica (TE) trial, but these of trial were not significantly differed with that of Chlorella (CH) + Crypthecodinium sp. (CR) + EP trial, contained EPA oil (P>0.05). Contrastively, CH trial showed the lowest SGR. And in the RNA/DNA ratio, 0.08 of TE trial was the highest ratio out of whole trials, but the trial not significantly differed with that of CH + CR + EP trial (P>0.05). But, the ratio of CH trial was the lowest ratio at 0.05 out of whole trials (P<0.05). Through out results, the EPA source for flea culture was showed a positive effect through their growth and SGR. Therefore, we suggested that a usage of the source with CH could replace T. suecica as good diet for culture of the brackish flea.

NOAA/AVHRR, Topex/Poseidon, and Jason-1 data were used to analyze sea surface temperatures and thermal fronts in the North East Asia Seas. Temporal and spatial analyses were based on data from 1993 to 2008. The amplitude and phase for the annual mode on SL and SST were investigated with harmonic analysis. The geographical distribution of amplitudes for comparison of SL and SST are slightly reverse in southwest-northeast tilted direction. The time series analysis conducted on the entire researched area presented consistent pattern. Peak of Sea Level was presented 1~2 months after the peak of the surface sea temperature was shown. This explains that Sea Level change occurs after the generation of surface sea temperature change in sea. The Sobel edge detection method delineated four fronts. Thermal fronts generally occurred over steep bathymetric slopes. Annual amplitudes and phases were bounded within these frontal areas.

In this paper, we argue that for general education in engineering, humanistic education is important, thus we propose an illustration of course outline. Recent general education for engineering is focused on only more practical, socially oriented courses, for example, business, law, economics, and entrepreneurship. While these courses are helpful for engineering students, humanistic education is more fundamental for improving the students' capacity for insight, originality and constructing the holistic view. We propose a course "Philosophy of Time and Space" as an example which fit this purpose.
