A histo-pathogical examination was carried out to evaluate the effect of commercial extruded pellet (EP) and a raw fish moist pellet (MP) diet on the health of juvenile rockfish cultured in marine net-cage for 7 months. Fish were distributed randomly to each net cage as a group of 76,000 fish (initial mean body weight 5.9 g). After 2 months, the hypertrophy or swelling of liver parenchymal cells was identified in most individuals and lasted until 7 months. Livers in EP fed group frequently showed hypertrophic parenchyma and fatty change with occasional atrophic cells. However, after 4 months, lymphocytic infiltration in splenic parenchyma was seen in a number of individuals. In addition, the gastric glandular epithelium was atrophied and in the lumen of renal tubules protozoan parasites were frequently identified but there was no correlation with the type of feed. Moreover, juvenile rockfish on EP diet showed gross and microscopic hypertrophy of the liver which would be due to oversupply of feed. Severe hepatic cellular hypertrophy or swelling could lead to the damage of microcirculation. Especially fatty change and atrophic change of liver could be the result from the damage, which could be responsible for immunological problem. Lymphocytic infiltration of spleen on the MP diet suggests that juvenile rockfish could be frequently exposed to infectious antigens.

Jeon, Bo-Ra ; Kim, Jung-Sub ;
Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Education, volume 24, issue 5, 2012, Pages 627~642
DOI : 10.13000/JFMSE.2012.24.5.627
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a teacher's praise dispositions scale(TPDS). On the basis of a literature review of praise, we developed 19 Likert-type items to measure praise dispositions of elementary and secondary school teachers. The developed scale was examined with 342 teachers. With an exploratory factor analysis we extracted 3 sub-factors of the scale consisted of 16 items; frequency, intention, and standard of praise. Cronbach's
coefficients of sub-scales were from .60 to .85 and split-half reliabilities were from .60 to .84. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the suitability of three components model. It was found that some correlation coefficients, not all of them, between gratitude disposition and praise disposition were statistically significant. It suggested that teachers'praise disposition scale is related to gratitude disposition but is not the same scale. In conclusion, TPDS could be used to measure praise dispositions of teachers. However, for further validity and reliability, repeated research is necessary.

Bycatch and stranding of sea turtles from Jeju coastal water of Korea were monitered from 2008 to 2009. A total of 41 sea turtles, consisting of 12 greens (Chelonia mydas), 3 loggerheads (Caretta caretta), 1 hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and 25 unidentified species, were recorded and observed in those area. Reported stranding and bycatch reached to a peak in August. The largest number of bycatch occurred in the coastal waters around Aewol-eup located in northwest area of Jeju Island. Most of the bycatch were taken by set nets and gill nets, which prevailed over the fishing grounds in the coastal waters of the Jeju Island. It is suggested that an appropriate monitoring system be necessary to conserve endangered sea turtle species in Jeju of Korea.

Na, Won-Bae ; Lee, Sun-Min ;
Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Education, volume 24, issue 5, 2012, Pages 699~711
DOI : 10.13000/JFMSE.2012.24.5.699
An undergraduate course named computational structural analysis becomes more significant in recent years because of its important role in industries and the recent innovation in computer technology. Typically, the course consists of introduction to finite element method, utilization of general purpose finite element software, and examples focusing on static and linear analyses on various structural members such as a beam, truss, frame, arch, and cable. However, in addition to the static and linear analyses, current industries ask graduates to acquire basic knowledge on structural dynamics and nonlinear analysis, which are not listed in the conventional syllabus of the computational structural analysis. Therefore, this study develops geometrically nonlinear examples, which can help students to easily capture the fundamental nonlinear theory, software manipulation, and problem solving skills. For the purpose, five different examples are found, developed for the analyses of cables and cable nets, which naturally have strong geometrical non-linearity. In the paper, these examples are presented, discussed, and finally compared for a better subject development.

Recently, many problems related on shoreline response to spill oil were exposed again on a occasion of M/T Hebei spirit accident even though the weakness on the shoreline response system has been brought up since M/T Sea Prince oil spill accident. Therefore the establishment of shoreline response system that best suits our country is needed through considering the response system of well-developed country. The socioeconomic conflict between the persons concerned on the clean-up endpoints can be sharpened in Korea because the frequency of coastal use of our country is too high compared to other countries. Thus procedural justification, that is, how the clean-up endpoints be established is more important than what type of clean-up endpoints be used. In the present paper, we attempted to suggest a new manner on the decision making system for clean-up endpoints that best suits our country. The decision making system for clean-up endpoints need to be divided into two steps, that is, set-up step of clean-up endpoints criteria and decision step of clean-up endpoints. The decision making organization of local governments play a key role in case of set-up step of clean-up endpoints criteria, while the response command headquarters under Korean coast guard and decision making organization of local governments codecide whether the clean-up endpoints criteria is fits or not.

Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Education, volume 24, issue 5, 2012, Pages 721~738
DOI : 10.13000/JFMSE.2012.24.5.721
The objective of this study is to provide university authorities with substantial help in enforcing Microteaching to new professors based on qualitative study. The subjects participated in this study are eleven new professors working for D college located in Busan and the study lasted for ten months from May 2011 to February 2012. The results of this study are as follow: First, new professors took cognizance of Microteaching both as a burdensome task and as a teaching evaluation tool. Second, they had difficulties confronting their exposed teaching realities and accepting the results of teaching evaluation. Third, Microteaching contributed to the shift of professors' attitude from teacher's perspective to students' and the shift of their cognizance from the existing teaching attitude to the improved, innovative, and open teaching attitude. Lastly, this paper proposes that Microteaching enforcement should be made through professors' voluntary participation based on the change of professors' cognizance on Microteaching and Microteaching consulting should be a progress-oriented process rather than an evaluation-oriented process.

Based on 'Backpack-free day' and 'Unsupervised studying day' in the early 1980s, 10% of all schools in 2004 had at least 1 day of five-day classes a month as at least 2 days were enforced in 2006, and most elementary and middle schools had widely enforced the five-day class since 2012 March. The five-day class system expands the stage of studying from school to families and local societies to build an educational community related to school-family-local societies to provide various activities such as culture, art, sports, social, nature experiences on holidays to have the goal to foster creative future talents with proper personality understanding and considering others. In Busan, the five-day week class of Saturday program is being operated in various methods by national local government and public organizations. The Saturday program of local societies registered in the Saturday school of the information sharing networks are 2823 in total for the past 6 years which are being operated by national local government and public organizations. However, participation of students in the Saturday program is around 20% in 2012 March when Saturday holiday system was widely conducted. For this, problems in the Saturday programs that are currently being enforced are to be closely analyzed and participation expansion plans are to be made. Therefore, this study analyzes and investigates operation forms of Saturday programs conducted in Busan to propose an improvement plan to fulfill goals of Saturday programs and boost participation of students.
