Hwang, Hey zoo ; Kang, Nam Yi ;
KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 3~8
Many countermeasures are presented to make excessive earth circumstance pollution better in the earth. A lot of researches are in progress to lessen
among the industries exhausting it. The industries manufacturing cement are making many countermeasures. Many concernments on ECO-friendly materials, rather than cement, are increased, and researches are in progress to develop them. Lime, material mostly used before Portland cement appeared, attracts the Occident as well as the Orient. In the Occident, lime mortar was used in common, for maintaining and repairing cultural properties, too. This study is aimed at offering basic materials for the modern use of lime, ECO-friendly material. This study measured the change of intensity and weight with lime, sand, and earth, basic materials of Samhoimool. As a result, at the beginning, hydrated lime displayed its density late, but as time was gone, density was promoted continuously. In addition, density was promoted, when it was given heat at the beginning. If heat-generation reaction of quicklime and water was used, density was promoted at the beginning, but liquidity showed a drop.

KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 9~18
As an aging population has increased vastly and nuclear families have been a dominating family type in modern Korean society, the numbers of the elderly who suffer Empty Nest Syndrome and LID (Loss Isolation Depression) syndrome have been accelerated. These syndromes involve psychological instability, melancholy, and lethargy. To make the elderly get out of this phenomenon and live actively, the scheme of converting their existing house into shared housing was set as a hypothetical solution in this study. This study sets out to find out responses of the elderly to alter their own house's function in housing improvement area. A Small Workshop Panel method was used and the elderly aged 55 years upwards took part and they own a detached house in a housing improvement area that is relatively large for the elderly or the elderly couple to live alone. Through the workshop, problems that the elderly have been experiencing within their houses were looked into and responses of the elderly on altering their house to shared housing by introducing developed schematic plans. Although, the first response was negative, positive responses from the house owners were carried out when a visual support i.e. developed shared housing plan was provided. The positive response was based on the fact that subsidies from the government on house renovation and tenants matching programs are supported as shared housing could provide home owners economical support with rents and help them to feel less lonely. This is a way of relieving the elderly from being neglected and supporting them to live and age actively in their later lives. Furthermore, by providing a visual media to the elder residents in housing improvement area, their greater understandings on the development and addressing their opinions were possible. Therefore, more tools that promote elder residents' participation are needed for future housing improvement projects and an aging society.

KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 25~30
The daylited space can improve visual comfort and occupant's well-being. However discomfort glare from the daylight is a common problem in indoor environments and in general, the window is the main glare sources. Some formulas have been proposed for predicting glare from the daylight, however, they do not consider the effect on glare of the view through a window and some studies proved that they are inadequate in real daylight situation. This research aims to identify the relationship between view and discomfort glare considering the subjective impressions. As a preliminary experiment, this paper sets up the experimental protocol to reveal relationships between views from a window and visual perception in a controlled laboratory experiment.
artificial window was developed and
view image was placed on the window. Discomfort glare and impression evaluation was carried out under four different views and one blank view as a reference condition. The results showed that the subjects evaluated discomfort glare differently with the views even under the same luminance conditions and tended to feel less glare with distance views compared to near views.
Comparative Analysis of Evaluation Items in Green Building Certification Case of Apartment Housing
Kim, Shin-Eun ; Lee, Dong-Hoon ; Kim, Sun-Kuk ;
KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 31~38
The government has enforced the Green Building Certification System since 2002 to resolve environmental pollution from building construction projects. The Green Building Certification System offers additional financial incentive worth 3% of basic apartment unit construction cost for apartment housing projects that have passed preliminary certification and has been revitalized drastically since 2006. However, after the system was put in place, comparative analysis of each item in certification criteria has not been performed yet in reference to actual certification cases. This paper aims to provide a comparative analysis of such evaluation items by studying green building certification cases involving apartment housing. Conclusions drawn herein are expected to provide a framework of continued advancement for the certification system subsequently.
A Study on the Post Occupancy Evaluation of PAJU Book City
Kwon, Ni A ;
KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 39~48
PAJU Book City Plan was designed to integrate two concepts of "Publishing Productive City" and "Ecological City" with the goal of "bringing of human being and nature together". This research on the post occupancy evaluation on PAJU Book City has two aims; One is to define how people, mainly working there rather than living, recognize the city and the other is to identify the problems resulted from the first phase of planning process and to suggest feasible solutions at the same time. It would be desirable that the outcome of this research should be used as data sources to improve the second phase of the plan. The evaluation criteria were created by the pre-survey on the basis of previous researches and "Pa Ju publishing city architectural design guide book (1999)". With those criteria, on-site questionnaire was conducted among people who work in PAJU Book City and stratified sampling was used for the proper sampling. The result is as follows; the visual-aesthetic criteria had positive response, which also closely related to a city satisfaction. Considering this result, construction type, circumferential environment of the building and a place of building form were found appropriate. The evaluation on the physical-ecological criteria was relatively low. Respondents were unsatisfied with green space and required better ecological waterway and more roadside tree. As green space was given a lot of weight in satisfaction survey, more green urban areas should be planned in the next phase. The evaluation on the social-behavior criteria got the lowest score. Particularly, the accessibility and convenient facilities were remarkably low. Nonetheless, the self-conceit about PAJU Book City was highly evaluated and played a crucial role in a city satisfaction. In order to achieve the goal, physical beauty, characteristics as a publication city as well as an ecologically sustainable city should be main agenda in the second phase of Paju Book City Plan. Consequently, it is important to strike a balance between the external environment and image media in order that PAJU Book City should be re-born as a culture city.
A Study on Perception and Needs of Urban Park Users on Off-Leash Recreation Area
Lee, Hyung-Sook ;
KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 49~55
The recent increase in the number of dogs in high-density urban environments causes conflicts between dog owners and non-dog owners and the access of dogs to urban parks has been controversial among park users. A lack of exercise and socialization, however, can cause canine behavior problems such as aggression and hyperactivity which are potential dangers to people and there has increased demand for a place where people and their dogs can interact and exercise together. In many developed countries, off-leash recreation areas (OLRA) are considered as safe and effective places that dogs can exercise, play, and socialize with other dogs while reducing conflicts between dog owners and other park users. This study aimed to review the issue of dogs' access to public parks and to examine the perception of park users on OLRA to provide insights and guidelines in establishing OLRA in Korea. The survey respondents, even non-dog owners, perceived that it is necessary to provide a separate space for dogs from other park users by providing OLRAs in urban parks and showed the willingness to use. Most of dog owners consider their dogs as companions or family members and feel the lack of places to exercise their dogs. As local government plays a major role in urban animal management which emerge as a social issue at present, more active interventions of municipalities are necessary to support various needs and activities of park users. An experimental OLRAs based on community participations would be a meaningful starting point to effective urban animal management.

KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 57~62
In case of earth-covered storage, the condensation occurs on surface of wall and stores in summer with high humidity because of low temperature of constructional mass. Therefore, the preventive plans should be considered to protect stores from the damage by corrosion in earth-covered storages. This study aims to suggest the methods of forced ventilation by the air, to solve the problems of construction's surface condensation at the Magazine of igloo type which is similar to earth-covered storages. A fan was installed at the air outlet for exhaust gas to conduct forced ventilation. The surface and indoor temperature were measured, and then the influence of those on condensation was analyzed. The results of this research are follows; 1) Forced ventilation by a fan affects the rise in surface temperature of walls and stores. 2) The condensation on surface of walls and stores was reduced after operating a fan.

KIEAE Journal, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 71~78
Spill light by street lighting is a kind of light pollution creating cozy night atmosphere, interfere visual private and cause insomnia at night. This study was to survey light trespass of the windows in residential buildings. According to outdoor lighting control guidance in Seoul, three different areas were selected to investigate the trespass light to windows. The results were as follows: 37% of the buildings of 386 buildings were influenced by street lighting, and 47% of windows were occurred light trespass. Therefore, the street lighting affected light trespass at night in survey area. The main reasons of light trespass were luminaire type, luminaire pole height, and street width. For protecting the light trespass to windows, it is necessary to non-cutoff fixture to full cutoff fixture by the street width.
