Theoretical Review about EQ(Environmental Quality) in Built Environment

Environmental quality(EQ) is one of the most important components of the assessment of "Quality of Life(QOL)". Most EQ related research dealt with overall built environmental quality issues as represented by several clusters of factors related to occupants' satisfaction. This paper aims to identify and understand the theoretical background and the occupants' comparative standards of response to conditions of the built environment related to environmental quality(EQ). Therefore, this paper have reviewed the theoretical framework and empirical research for environmental quality in built environment. the concept of environmental quality if elaborated from diverse perspectives. Different ways of interpreting environmental quality have led to a variety of ways to conduct evaluations. A review of the theories and methods used for the analysis of perceived environmental quality provides a strong foundation for new research frameworks and environmental quality in built environment.
A Study on Runoff Water Reduction Effects According to Shapes of Formation of Artificial Soil Green Area in Multi-Housing Complex

This study aims to analyze, by forming an experimental area of artificial soil green area that is of equal scale and analyzing the characteristics of runoff water in accordance with the cross-section configuration, applied the benefits in an actual multi-housing case study complex. In examining the measurement test results of the runoff water infiltration amount and surface runoff amount of a low-profile type green area(Dish type) and a general type green area(Mound type), Dish type was seen to have 1.5-times higher runoff water infiltration amount than Mound type during heavy rainfalls and showed about a 50% reduction with respect to the surface runoff amount. In other words, artificial soil green area offers the benefit of reduction of surface runoff amount and suggests, in actuality even with a change to the cross-sectional configuration of artificial soil green area alone at the time of construction of multi-housings, the possibility of benefits and reduction of costs spent on existing rainwater management facilities.
The Feasibility Analysis of Urban Unused Energy: Focusing on Technology, Institution and Infrastructure

Most governments have an interest in unused energy, because of high oil price and climate change. Particularly, it is very important to urban governments which have less renewable energy than other local governments. So Seoul, the capital of Korea, established a plan for the development of unused energy in 2007. But it has some problems related to the feasibility of this plan. So this paper checked and reviewed the economic feasibility of unused energy development cases in four cities by using three sub elements: technology, infrastructure, institution. As a result, it discovered that these urban governments have technological feasibility because they are located near big river or ocean. And they used the existing infrastructure and received the institutional subsidies from central governments in order to increase the economic feasibility of unused energy development projects. In conclusion, local governments of Korea have to try to seek how they can utilize the existing infrastructure for unused energy development in the situation that there are few institutional supports from the central government.
A Study on the Development of the Technology of Evaluating the Performance of Energy - saving in the BIM-based Design Process in the Real Time Manner Focused on the Analysis of Coefficient of Overall Heat Transmission

This study intended to introduce the method of designing an eco-friendly building based on BIM(Building Information Modeling) and BIM-based application. The proposed application aimed to generate the environmental performance of the designed alternative automatically in real-time manner in the process of architectural design. We focused on the feasibility of BIM-based eco-friendly design process and the applicability of the developed application for the architectural design practice. In this manner, in the end of paper, we proposed the so-call EcoBIM which is the performance evaluation module for the designed alternative using BIM in the real-time manner and the new design process with it. EcoBIM generate the coefficient of overall heat transmission of wall, roof and slab of the designed alternative with their physical characteristics such as thickness, thermal resistance and so on.
The Summer Cooling and Lighting Energy Performance Evaluation of Small Office Buildings with Venetian Blinds

The daylighting control system has to be applied to prevent the excessive incident daylight and reduce energy use. As the one of the most useful daylighting control systems, the blind system is simple and easy to install on the window for small office buildings. This study aims to evaluate the summer energy performance of small office buildings by venetian blinds and energy saving strategy of ministry of knowledge economy in korea. For the study, the simulations have been executed on blind installation conditions and lighting control methods. As results, the energy loads cut down 22 to 25(%) by using blind energy. Also, the efficient shows high on EMS system and low on
slat angles. Also, using energy saving strategy can reduce about 13(%) energy load.
A Study on Solar Radiation Analysis and Saving Elements of Heating Load according to the Location and Type of Housing in Multi-family Apartments

This study aims to evaluate the correlation between vertical solar radiation and the level of heating load according to the location and type of housing in multi-family apartments. This study shows that heating load is related with factors such as wall loss, window loss, ventilation loss and solar radiation gain. The heating load increases in the order of the middle floors, the highest floors and the lowest floors. The lowest and the highest floors are the most vulnerable floors, and it should be as emphasized as the middle floors. The heating load saving proposal contains 52 Alt. that shows heating load savings from min. 4% to max. 49%. The goal is to reduce the heating load of the highest and the lowest floors to the level of the middle floors. The result showed that there are 3 Alt. for the lowest floors and 16 Alt. for the highest floors as the heating load saving proposal. This study suggests integrated application to compose saving elements of heating load. so it could be utilized as a data for the construction of passive houses.
A Study of applying VAV and VWV System to reduce Energy Consumption of Office building

Building Energy Efficiency Rating system was enforced in 2001 to enhance spreading high-energy performance and saving buildings. It was only for the new apartments, but expanded to new office buildings in 2010, and moreover, government offices require 1st grade of Building Energy Efficiency Rating system. Green Building Act, which is established to reduce the emissivity of carbon dioxide by reducing building energy consumption, will be enforced in 2013, and new apartments and office buildings will be subjected to it. Henceforward, it will extend to other types of buildings and will be phased in. In general, pumps and fans consume approximately half of the air-conditioning energy consumption, and about a quarter of the total building energy consumption when office buildings have total floor area of more than 10000 square meters. This study analyzed the energy demand when applying VAV(Variable Air Volume) and VWV(Variable Water Volume) System to reduce energy returns of the pumps and the fans by ECO2, which is a computer simulation program used for Building Energy Efficiency Rating system.
A Study on the Thermal Properties of Architectural Greenery System Typology Based on the Contemporary Architectural Trend

Recently, greenery system is frequently applied on buildings and artificial grounds to improve urban ecological functionality. Specifically, architectural greenery is also known as an architectural language that can meet the sustainable design concept of architects. Although the architectural greenery system can be optimized through an interdisciplinary approach between architecture, horticulture and landscape- architecture, there is a problem of communication on the ideal gap between them. Therefore, this study is expected to establish the comtemporary architecture as hi-tech and the organic architecture in internationalism. Moreover, it can analyze the case study on architectural greenery system designed by a Pritzker Prize winner who represents the comtemporary architectural trend. In this analysis, we calculate and compare the U-value of the free-form surface system based on the international standards: ISO and CIBSE etc. Moreover, we calculate a change of artificial soil transmittance respect on compounding ratio of the bottom ash and pearlite. In the case of California Academy of Science by Renzo Piano, total transmittance of the greenery system results in 48% of domestic thermal insulation standard in dry condition. This result will be used as a basic study to promote developing the advanced system based on the concept of consilience.
A Study on Application of Shaft-box Type Double Skin to Apartment Building

The balcony of our apartment building consists of unique construction similar to double skin. It is announced broadly that double skin is very effective system in improvement of natural ventilation and indoor thermal environment, and outdoor sound protection. So, for the improvement of indoor climate and energy saving, many peoples studied about environmental performance of our balcony construction. This study focus on shaft box facade, special form of box window construction. It consists of a system of box window with continuous vertical shafts that extend over a number of stories to create a stack effect. Proto-type was decided by analyzing various types of exiting apartments. Shaft box type balcony was created by setting up shaft space at a part of balcony. Air flow and contribution of air temperature were simulated, performance of shaft box type balcony was compared with existing balcony. Finally, we confirmed that shaft box type balcony has many possibility for improvement of indoor environment.
A Study on the Development of Architectural Design Indicator for Small Public Building

Public buildings as a public space of the community have a close relationship with local residents and urban space. Public buildings are not a simple role as office space, but closely related to the life of the local residents. In addition, a variety of approaches, spatial, and program elements should be considered. Rising awareness for public buildings recently, aspect of design also has began to be interested. Small building is a public building that can actively cope with the social and economic environment in the rapid change. However, small building is lacking the design consideration according to the scale and economics. This paper is to present the Design Indicator that can be used to create 'small public buildings' that has been alienated from the large public buildings design development. This is intended to derive and utilize the design categories and design detail indicator of small public buildings. There are composition of design categories and design detail indicator of developed small public buildings. Design categories have developed six such as Public and Harmony, Access, Landscape Design, Space, Sustainable Design, Technique and Performance. Design Detail indicator of Small public buildings have developed all 24. Presented Design Categories and detail indicator are composed of design indicator available in all areas of design evaluation and review that includes design, function, environment, and technology of public buildings. And it is possible to apply with small public buildings in all purpose.
Nature-Friendly Design Characteristics of Outdoor Spaces in Brand Apartments

A outdoor space of the brand apartment can improve the quality of the whole environment in apartment and has differentiated identity in apartment housing through various versions of the green space and water space plan. The purpose of this study is to evaluate nature-friendly design characteristics in brand apartments and to offer a basic information for planning of brand apartment. In concrete, nature-friendly design did by green space and water space that can analyze by visual, and investigation contents divided to position, form, user behavior, link space from user viewpoint by case study. This study examined a case of eight brand apartments located in Gangnamgu, Seoul. We has divided the characteristics of a green space into horizontal type, vertical type, multi-dimensional type and has divided the water space into stagnant water type, flowing stream type, waterfall type and fountain type. The findings are summarized as follows: First, in case of the space of brand apartment, the application of horizontal and vertical greenery was lower compare with multi-dimensional green space. The most of items for multi-dimensional greenery have been planned to the open space and promenade. Second, a stagnant water type of water space features well used in most of the cases but a water space of signs of activity like a flowing stream, waterfall, fountain types were underused because of problem of administrative and maintenance expenses. Thirdly, Water space of brand apartments was planned with specialization item by apartment housing but green space does not have differentiated item and was planned by most similar form.
A Study on the Correlation of Residential Satisfaction of Dwellers and the Size of Housing Unit in Apartment Housing

The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation of residential satisfaction and the size of housing unit in apartment housing through the case study of 1,619 samples of 36 housing estates. The contents of this research consisted of two main parts. The first part was to identify the differences of residential satisfaction of dwellers, based on the size of housing unit, in apartment housing. The second part was to analyze the characteristics of residential environment, which might have an influence on the differences of residential satisfaction. the findings of this study were that the residential satisfaction of dwellers was proportional to the size of housing unit except
under housing unit, and the size of housing unit was not proportional to the residential satisfaction of outdoor openness exactly, but the size of housing unit was proportional to increase of the distance between building and building, and decrease of the building surface coverage ratio to outdoor area. This research will contribute to the establishment of the site planning methods which increase residential satisfaction in apartment housing, while promoting the quality of residential environment in Korea.

The study is to probe a technical alternative to enhance the reliability and accuracy of the results of various landscape simulations. This study to present technical criteria that are necessary in each stage of target site analysis, picture taking, and computer synthesis and, through these to present supplementary plans to enhance the reliability and accuracy of landscape simulations. In order to derive more practical and empirical results in terms of the reliability of the results of landscape simulations, examples that actually passed landscape review were selected. With regard to study process, an analysis was made first to analyze the landscape report data of designs that passed the review to analyze their characteristics, to be followed by an integrated analysis of problems that were revealed in various landscape simulations. Important factors that affect directly the work of landscape simulations such as the specification of camera lenses that were used in picture taking, distance, and angle. Design the work was carried out using Auto CAD, 3DS Max, and Photoshop program in the same way as in actual design. For verification of their accuracy and reliability, the results were entrusted to experts who have implemented similar jobs. To seduce differences from those too landscape simulations that conduct trial experiment of the virtual space that are to be created in the future with accurate numerical values.
A Case Study on the Space Planning of Dental Clinic

This is a study on space planning of dental clinic by case analysis of 30 dental clinics that were cons tructed or designed in metropolitan area in recent years, It is analyzed as the following, required basic or additional rooms according to size divisions of gross floor area, relationship of treatment chair number and floor area, ratio of gross floor area and waiting zone, medical treatment zone, supporting zone, management zone, and zoning planning, space types of medical treatment zone, etc. This study can be used as basic data for planning of dental clinic and related future researches.
A Study on Light-shelf system based on IT in Housing Space -Focus on Lighting Energy Saving-

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the light-shelf system combined with IT to save lighting energy in resident space. According to the multiple variables that affected intensity of illumination, various experiments were designed and conducted. The main findings of this study were following: (1)the optimal level of light-shelf system was formulated which met the appropriate range of intensity of illumination in living-room; (2)although the mixed light-shelf system indicated a high performance, it could often provide discomforts to residents according to the degree of exposure; (3)artificial lights using light-shelf system combined with IT showed a higher effectiveness than those using fixed light-shelf system displayed. This study provided initial information of light-shelf system formative processes that could contribute to the lighting energy diminution. Future studies should focus more on multiple approaches regarding different types of resident space planning.
A Study on the Push and Pull Factors Affecting the Use of Outdoor Environments for the Elderly : Focus on the Case of Testbed in Jeonju

As longevity of human-beings is extended and the population of aged people increases, diverse issues related with the aged people are presented. The neighborhood space for the aged people is required to be designed based upon the understanding of such difficulties of the elderly and the public outdoor environment is an important environmental resource that can enhance the quality of life and promote the health of the elderly in underprivileged area without burdening them economically. This study aims to research the daily life of the elderly in underprivileged urban area and their utilization styles of outdoor environments in order to find out the push factors and pull factors that induce the aged people to use the outdoor environments. For this purpose, this study carried out an interview survey upon 69 elderly residents and surveyed on 363 elderly residents of low income class who are aged 60 and over and living in decaying area in Jeonju. For the analysis of the collected data, a qualitative and a quantitative analysis were accomplished. As results of study, the elderly in underprivileged area use such outdoor environments as resting facilities, exercise equipment, parks, farming gardens and waterfronts, and the push factors for them to use the outdoor environments were sordid indoor spaces, sense of isolation or loneliness, and the desire for maintaining good health. And the pull factors for them to use the outdoor environments were natural factors, opportunities for social interactions, space for exercise. The obstacles that hinder the elderly in using outdoor environments were the bad health of the elderly, lack of facilities, accessibility and weather conditions. Thus, the results of this study are expected to provide basic data for designing the outdoor environments to promote the health of the elderly in urban underprivileged area and to relieve the burdensome problems related with ageing societies.
An optimal inventory management system for high-rise building -Focused on Re-bar Works-

Since high-rise building construction sites are usually located in crowded city areas, sufficient spaces for the inventories of key materials are rarely available. This spatial constraints have been one of the critical challenge that may cause productivity loss and increasing costs of the high-rise building construction projects. The proper material inventory management is certaing a key to the success of high-rise building construction projects as it handles difficulty of securing material stock yards, changes in demands, uncertain delivery time through integrating the construction schedules and actively responding to the key materials attributes. In this light, this research analyzes the latest inventory model, (Q,r) model, in accordance with the high rise building characteristics. This research suggests an optimal inventory management of re-bar considering various demands and lead times. The case study is also presented with regard to the re-bar inventory management.
The research of Economical Re-oder point Estimating Method for building construction on the Downtown Area

Recently buildings are being constructed on the downtown area. In most building construction sites on the downtown area, the need for adequate material inventories are critical in order to avoid project delays and cost increases due to inappropriate deliveries of key materials. However immoderate material inventories cause increasing inventory cost. Therefore, we need a proper management material inventories. This research re-establishes the existing safety stock and analyzes relationship between safety stock and service level. It suggests an economical re-order point based on safety stock considering service level, various demand and delivery time.
