Performance Evaluation of Energy Reduction of Light Shelf Applying Punching Plate

Various studies on lighting energy savings are conducted, given that lighting energy consumption accounts 23.5% of building energy consumption. Especially, external type light shelf's efficiency is acknowledged; however, its application is limited in Korea, where high rise building ratio is high, due to high wind pressure. This study delves into natural lighting system to cope with wind pressure, and proposes the punching plate-installed light shelf. This study actually draws lighting energy output, according to whether the punching plate is applied through the test-bed, and verifies the effectiveness of the punching plate-installed light shelf. The conclusion is presented below: First) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in winter solstice showed that the awning area decreased as the opening ratio increased so that the indoor distributed illumination tended to increase, and
which was advantageous for awning was determined as the proper angle. Second) The light shelf with the punching plate in spring/autumn equinox shows improved lighting according to the angle, and the appropriate angle of light shelf with the punching plate has increased to
according to the opening ratio in comparison to
which is the appropriate angle of light shelf with no punching plate due to the reflection area reduced by the reflecting plate with holes. Third) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in summer solstice showed that the lighting performance tended to decrease as the opening ratio increased. 4) The light shelf with the punching plate incurs a 50% energy loss in comparison to the light shelf with no punching plate. However, its effectiveness has been proven in the aspects that it can bring a 50% energy saving in comparison to the case with no installation of light shelf and that it can be designed in response to wind pressure on the high floors.
Analysis for Energy Efficiency of the Algae Façade - Focused on Closed Bioreactor System -

Recently, energy generation using algae technology is being promising due to the emerging issues on energy insufficiency and environmental contamination, although the solution has not been resolved in aspect of technological and economical efficiencies since it was originally proposed in the early 1980s by many scholars. The energy production technology using algae materials has great values as not only a solution for new energy generation but also an eco-friendly sustainable building equipment system. In addition, cultivation tank for algae using water sources seems to play a role as a decreasing system for thermal transmittance on building components. This study aims at investigating the adaptability towards the future sustainable building with algae technology and testifying the energy efficiency of the algae skins by operating a couple of simulation tools to measure building performances for the proposed prototype of the façade system.
Implementation of a Remote Bio-Equipment System for Smart Healthy Housing Properties

It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristics of BSN (Bio-Sensor Network) platform in built smart healthcare environment while designing healthy housing facilities. For this study, WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) data transmission technologies have been employed with medical sensors, and optimal medical devices would provide various Web 2.0 services by connecting to the WiBro network. The BSN platform normally recognizes in surroundings of WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) or WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network), and it is possible to manage sensor nodes by utilizing SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (REpresentational State Transfer). In addition, the feature of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for mobile gateway is also included for being adapted to huge network structure. Finally, BSN platform will play a role as important clues for developing personal WSN service models for smart healthy housing properties.
The Consciousness and Current use of Residents for Community Spaces of Rental Housing by Post-Occupancy Evaluation

This study aims to POE(Post-Occupancy Evaluation) analyze the characteristics of residents and their demands on community facilities by types of supplying housing, which can be the basis for making the housing regulations. The following five types of housing are considered in this study ; 1) National Rental Housing(L), 2) Public Rental Housing(L), 3) Permanent Rental Housing(S), 4) Public Rental Housing(S), 5) Private Rental Housing. We surveyed 527 residents from 20 housing complexes in those four housing types. First, each housing type has different household characteristics. Second, the criteria for housing selection are different. Third, local community activities and satisfaction are different in each housing type. Lastly, residents are generally satisfied with service facilities, but their satisfaction level and the facilities they need are different depending on housing type, accordingly. The housing community space plan be should be improved to the amount of areas of community facilities.
Improvement of Environmental-friendly Hospital Design on Underdeveloped Countries - Focused on Bangladesh -

Hospital design technology of Korea has recently been exported to underdeveloped countries through the EDCF business. This business reflects our high technology of the hospital design and the regional features that reflect the natural environments, the architectural features and the architectural technology of underdeveloped countries. In accordance with the trend of the global environmental-friendly design market, introduction of environmental-friendly design is needed in the project of hospital for underdeveloped countries. A result of examining the Bangladesh case, the hospital design for the underdeveloped countries already contains a lots of environmental-friendly design elements which have lots of effect. In addition, these environmental elements already contains the advantage and efficiency of operation. Thus, for the success of the hospital design project of the international assistance business, it is necessary actively to discover the environmental-friendly design elements of the region, and to survey the environmental-friendly construction of the region and to make the guidelines of environmental-friendly hospital design during the feasibility study phase.
A Investigation on the Actual Condition of PV Maintenance on Residental Buildings

Residental photovoltaic power system achieved remarkable results in distribution and activation through 'One Million Green Homes Program' led by the government. However, system maintenance and management after installation are relative unsatisfactory. Thus, problems, such as malfunctioning, decrease in efficiency, breakage, etc, are occurring in succession which means that expensive facilities are not used effectively. This study attempted to propose a more preferred alternative to the photovoltaic power system currently applied and installed to the housing by investigating and analyzing the said system, identifying management practices, and deriving problems. For this study, 48 houses equipped with photovoltaic systems in J City were chosen and they were analyzed after preliminary research and field investigation. The results revealed that most of the surveyed systems in J City are still in fairly good conditions. But the instruction and information regarding the appropriate operational management of those surveyed systems have not been delivered to the owner. Therefore, promotion education and related manual deployment should be done by the contractor. In terms of installation, inadequate system location and some warranty services are required to be improved, which are usually caused by a lack of careful planning and construction. In addition, the follow-up management needs to be provided about five years later after installation considering system deterioration.
The Planning of Schematic Design for Student Housing Using Shipping Containers - Focused on the Student Housing of Keetwonen -

The purpose of this study was suggested to establish of student housing by using shipping container. The research method are a study of shipping container and characteristics of student housing by using shipping container, compared typically student housing with student housing by using shipping container. Also there are planning though a case study of various planes and survey based on the student housing city in Amsterdam, Netherland, is called Keetwonen. It is a planning for housing unit to actual build at the part of land to devise master plan The 40FT(High Cube) Shipping Container housing unit are double occupancy room with toilet and balcony. The common areas are the kitchen, laundry facilities, conference room and lounge are available on the first floor with a lightweight steel frame construction method applied for obtain substantive utilization of the space. Considering into the type and scale of site shall be planning in the form of side corridor and central corridor, which is preferable to separate the interior space into two areas by a central corridor to secure personal privacy. Also, planning such as a separate exterior panel, color and landscape design to improve the external image of the container and block the solar radiation heat influx with a pitched roof. Allow 24 college students shall live at the site of Seongnae-dong, Gangdong-gu in Seoul, Korea (site area

Stepwise Technique for Improving Building Energy Efficiency Rating Utilizing Quantified Simulation Model

Due to the Climate change and resource shortage by global warming, various problems are rising and getting worse around the world. Many countries are doing the considerable efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The government of South Korea also plans to decrease greenhouse gas emission, the various pilot projects are underway, which includes obligation of energy efficiency 1st rating and greenhouse gas target management system of public buildings. In particular, luxurious government office buildings and energy-wasting public building have issued and emerged as a social problem. Energy efficiency improvement of the existing public office buildings are becoming an important issue recently. This study is proposed the step-by-step energy improvement model according to the building energy efficiency rate in order to reduce the energy consumption. To attain this end, I set up a base model by analyzing the current architectural conditions of the existing public office buildings and grasped the specific properties of building energy consumption through energy simulations. Furthermore, I suggested phased reduction prototypes for the reduction target of energy consumption by applying the methods of the zero energy building plan. This study is expecting that prototypes would give directions when it comes to planning the implementation policy of phased building plan factors, according the building energy consumption reduction goal in the existing public office buildings which are the subject of building energy target management system.

Performance of heat sinks for LED luminaires in office buildings - Focused on the variation of air flow rate in duct -

In recent years, many researchers have considered the building energy consumption reduction accordingly to deal with abnormal climate changes and greenhouse gas reduction. However, the lighting energy use ratio has increased in spite of the development of the high efficiency lighting device. Therefore, the study aims to produce the LED lighting applications for the effective lighting heat removal by using the heat characteristics of LED lighting and analyzing the heat removal effect. In order to increase radiant heat efficiency, the heat pipe and heat sink was attached on PCB as LED lighting applications. Experiment was conducted to verify the temperature and air velocity of inside duct: thermocouples, anemometer. The heat removal effect of LED lighting applications was measured by observing the temperature of the lighting applications and the change of air velocity in duct. The experiment shows that the temperature change in the duct according to air velocity was
. It is also concluded that heat removal was calculated from 33 to 81W.
Comparison of Measured and Predicted Photovoltaic Electricity Generation and Input Options of Various Softwares

The objectives of this study are to investigate input variables of photovoltaic generation programs and to compare their prediction to actual generation of photovoltaic system in the C city hall and the C city sewage treatment plant. We investigated the actual amount of generation, the forecast amount of generation, the amount of solar radiation data, and calculated the relative errors. We simulated the photovoltaic system of C city hall and the C city sewage treatment plant located in Chungju using existing programs, such as SAM, RETSCREEN, HOMER, PV SYST, Solar Pro. The result of this study are as follows : Through examining the relative errors of monthly predicted and actual generation data, monthly generation data showed big errors in winter season?. Except winter season, actual amount of generation and the predicted amount of generation showed no large errors.
The Sensitivity Analysis of Thermal Expansion Breakage of Multi-layer Glazing in Building Envelope

Curtain wall system of office buildings has recently become very common in Korea. As the multi-layer curtain glazing is exposed to outdoor environment, it is very subjected to direct environmental impact. Consequently, breakage and cracks of glazing due to heat expansion is frequently observed. This study explores various causes and aspects for destruction of multi-layer glazing. A sensitivity analysis was performed on the basis that thermal changes causes damage to the multi-layer glazing. Air temperature in air cavity within the multi-layer glazing was examined to find its effect on multi-layer glazing breakage. Analysis showed high deflection to depth ratio of 1:1.8 and that higher the aspect ratio, smaller is the deflection. Allowable pressure showed that the weakest value is for aspect ratio of 1:2.9. Sensitivity analysis by the area of the glazing showed that as area of glazing becomes higher, allowable pressure and deflection-depth ratio becomes smaller. For allowable pressure and allowable deflection-depth within air cavity, the glazing breakage occurred at least
. The results from glazing breakage by thermal factor shows that it is hard to break the glazing with only an increase in air cavity temperature in multi-layer glazing applied in buildings.
The Individual Heat-recovery ventilation system of Residential Buildings

Recently supply of low energy house is increasing which can enhance energy efficiency and indoor environment comfort. Low energy house have to secure air tightness as well as thermal performance so house become high airtightness and inevitably need heat recovery ventilator to enhance indoor air quality. However, most of current ventilation systems are one-click, controlling the entire space so it causes increasing of heating load and fan power which makes it hard to save energy. Thus, Individual Control system is required which can achieve both enhancing indoor air quality and decreasing heating load and electric fan power. Thereby, in this study, we analyzed the correlation between ventilation and fan power through mock-up experiment and measured ventilation load under individual control system. As a result, under the condition of

Survey Study of Optimal Cooling Equipment Capacity of the Large Hospitals in Busan City

The basic factors determining the amount of energy used in hospital buildings are weather conditions and building factors. But the real energy consumer is central plant equipment such as boilers and chillers that produce thermal energy for heating and cooling. Inaccurate decision of the primary equipment's size can cause a high initial-cost, an excessive equipment space, a wasted energy by low operation-efficiency and shortening of the machine's life. In this reason, the decision of optimal size for central plant equipment is very important. There are several factors for the decision such as an operation factor, a factor (equipment factor), piping losses and a simultaneous usage factor applied in the sizing process except a basic cooling load. But there is no standard method for applying those factors. Usually, factors are applied individually by an experience or custom of each engineer. In this study, the authors emphasize the meaning and the problem of those factors, examine them by analyzing factors which were applied to actual practices, and propose the recommendation value of safety, load, operation factors and application methods.
