A Study on the Elements of the Environmentally Friendly Design of the Courtyards in Elementary Schools -Focused on the Open Direction and D/H Ratio-

The objectives of this research are to find the problems in the courtyards of the elementary schools and to provide the new design guidelines on the environmental design applicable to the court yard of the elementary schools. To analyze the current usage condition of the court yards of the elementary schools, sixty-three elementary schools in Seoul were investigated through the architectural drawings, and then nineteen of them were selected for the detailed investigations. The survey findings testified that the orientation of the courtyard's open direction and D/H ratio would be critically important for the architectural design of the courtyard in elementary schools. From these analyses, the following guidelines would be proposed on the courtyards for the improved elementary school design. Firstly, to increase the environmental condition of the courtyard, the orientation of the courtyard's open side would not be north. Secondly, to make the environmentally friendly courtyard, it is necessary to increase the D/H ratio. Sooner or later, the courtyard of the elementary schools would be introduced very largely. Thus, it is important to figure out the elements of the environmental design of the courtyard in elementary schools. The continuous research on the elements of the environmentally friendly design of the courtyard will provide the proper direction for the better design of the elementary schools.
Analysis on ventilation efficiency by CFD simulation for breathing zone in bed room

Indoor air environment is one of the most important factors that affect resident's health and comfort level. In this paper, the influence of ventilation efficiency with different types of furniture arrangement at breathing zone in a room was analyzed by numerical simulation based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The furniture layout of students' bedroom have been classified by three different patterns so that SVE3(scale for ventilation efficiency3) in the rooms was analyzed for air flow distribution. According to the results of the study, SVE3 has the maximum value in spaces between furnitures and each comer of the room. The furniture arrangement influences the ventilation efficiency. It was con finned that ventilation effective in a room is not uniformly distributed as compared the breathing zone with all the area in a room. It means that a study of ventilation efficiency was considered relatively with target zone(a residential or breathing zone) and all the area in a space.
Application of Lightself to Buildings as a Integrated Daylighting System

For sustainable building design, using day lighting is considered a variable technique to save energy and create comfort indoor environments. Specially, the lightself as a integrated daylighting system is one of the most important techniques due to it's durability, availability and lighting performance. This paper aims to analyze the development and architectural application of a lightself system to buildings as a integrated day lighting system. For the study, advanced lightself systems developed in abroad such as "Integrated Enveloped and Lighting System", "Anidolic Daylighting System" and etc. are analyzed. Also, the architectural examples are investigated. As results, the new technologies such as optically treated reflective and sun-tracking are adopted to improve daylight performance. And, lots of environmentally friendly buildings are installed on integrated lightself system.
A Study on the Optimal Sizing of Wastewater Recycling System for Office Buildings

The demand for water in a city area has enormously increased due to the concentration of population and improvement of the living quality. In this reason, the water shortage and the pollution by city sewage seem to be inevitable. For saving city water and meeting the demands from the city, the wastewater recycling system can be used, which makes used water reusable by a certain purification process. In Korea, the application of a wastewater recycling system to the buildings has continuously been adopted since its first appearance at the Lotte World Complex in 1989. However, the system has not been in fashion because of its high cost and users' negative attitude against recycled water. A research based on literature review and a case study for a recycling water system was carried out and an estimation and evaluation model was proposed. The results from the present study suggest that the optimal size of the recycling water system should be designed within 30-40% of total water demand in a building. Also, it was found that economic benefits could be expected within the payback period of 5.3 years by securing the operation rate over 70%.
A New Approach to Design Method of the Solar Compound Parabolic Concentrator with Tubular Absorber

The intermediate range of temperatures(
) which can be achieved with CPCs(Compound Parabolic Concentrators) without tracking device provides both economic and thermal advantages for solar collector design. The present paper summarizes critical design considerations for CPC with cylindrical absorber and its optical performance using ray tracing program. Concentration ratios vary as acceptance half angle, ratio of reflector height to aperture width and ratio of reflector area to aperture area. This effects showed that the concentration ratio was increased as acceptance angle but optimum ratio of reflector height to aperture width existed at critical value. As a result of ray tracing, solar ray losses was maximized at acceptance half angle and this problem was solved by increasing absorber tube diameter. The concentrating flux distribution on the absorber surface was uniform but peak flux existed.
Natural Ventilation in High-Rise Building with Double Facades, saving or waste of Energy

Double facades are built to allow natural ventilation in high rise buildings and buildings with high outside noise level. In high rise Buildings the gains in summer can be reduced by sufficient sun protection devices placed outside the rooms in the ventilated space between the inner and outer facade. To evaluate the energetic performance, three buildings with double facade were monitored for at least one year (Siemens Building in Dortmund/Germany, Victoria Insurance Company in Duesseldorf/Germany and RWE Tower in Essen/Germany). The results document the indoor climate, the boundary conditions for further planning and the possibilities for high rise buildings without or with little cooling facilities.
A Study on the Design Elements and Features of Environment-Friendly Architecture

As the problems of environment have been increasing, the architecture is exploring ways toward development of a idea for future generation. The purpose of this study is design element of environment-friendly architecture, and a general concept and mark of environment-friendly architecture are considered. And then, the design element is analyzed to come true the mark by considering the internal and external examples. The related elements on design of environment-friendly architecture are proposed by considering estimation items: The items are divided into six branches that is placement strategy, outside space furtherance, form of building, room environment furtherance, supply processing system, and preservation administration. Through this process, this study is proposed applicable solution of a concrete plan.
A Study on Predication model for TVOC Emissions of Finishing material in Apartment House

While cognition about an environment pollution becomes important recently, the intense pollution measures about an indoor air environment is required. In the case of building indoor environment, over 80% of modem people is living in building and these days an interest of building interior materials which becomes a reason for indoor environmental pollution in public house, office, is increasing. An experimental measurement method of this study is as follows. (1) American EPA TO-17, ASTMD5116-97, measurement method in VOCs experiment of Japanese closet industrial association (2) 2.4-DNPH cartridge method in HCHO experiment, based on American EPA TO-11 and measurement method of Japanese closet industrial association (3) standard compound is analyzed by using HPLC after solvent extraction process (4) paint and furniture are selected as measurement objects (5) we also made small chamber to grasp an emission characteristic of HCHO and VOCs and to get an environment-amicable forecast model through it, then we developed the model which can forecast emission rate by chamber experiment.
A Study on the Properties and the Applying method of the HWANGTO GUDUL in View of an Environmental Ecological House

This study aims to provide the fundamental date of HUANGTO GUDUL for applying to current house heating system. It has been used as a traditional heating system in Korea for a long time and disappeared in the course of industrialization in Korea last a few decades and these days is tend to be widely adopted as house heating system. Even though it is known that the traditional heating system of HUANGTO GUDUL is good for ecological environment house and a kind of the natural friendly heating system for optimum residential heating environment, there are few systematic researches and analysed data of it. In order to analyse the characteristics of HUANGTO GUDUL, the existing materials of it's historical change was studied. And the architectural prospects of the use of GUDUL on the point of view of environmental ecology. The data of relationship between the mechanic properties and the workability of GUDUL materials and the environmental index such as the heating environment, relative humidity, and deodorization ratio and so on. And the heating effectiveness of GUDUL was compared with existing modem materials by experimental analysis. The results stated above can be grafted architecture and will be offered the optimum heating environment.
