A Study on the Development of Traffic Assignment Model and Algorithm for the Elastic and Heterogeneous Travel Demand

In this paper, the traffic assignment model and algorithm for the elastic and also heterogeneous travel demand are developed with several numerical experiments. Many of travel demand management programs call for the evaluating method which can take account of the elasticity of and the heterogeneity of travel demand. Road-Pricing is the most typical TDM program among them. In recent years, traffic assignment model and efficient algorithm for heterogeneous travel demand were suggested by Dial. But, this paper develops the traffic assignment model for elastic and heterogeneous travel demand as a fixed point problem. And this paper also suggests algorithm which gives the equilibrium solution by very different way from others. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are also examined.
A Study on Improving Urban Bus Fare System

For improving urban bus fare system, this study analyzed distance rates system and the zone rates system from bus user trip distance distribution, and compared the two system with flat rates system, presently used. And in route demand calculating process, this study developed the conversion rate curve models between seat-bus and standee with the fare change and with the time-required change. Using developed model, this study calculates route demand and simulate each system by the change of fare and distance in fixed total user cost condition. The results shows that 83% of total bus user's fare could be lower than present in case of distance rates system, and zone rates system 68%. So the most useful bus fare system should be distance rates system and if that system adapted, the more bus demand could be expected.
NGIS Data Transformation for Road Network Construction and Travel Forecasting

The purpose of this paper is to extend the usage of the NGIS digital map, especially to the area of transportation planning and engineering. More specifically, it describes both the procedure and algorithm to extract the supply side of the network data to be used in the transportation planning process. The data conversion procedure involves the DXF to GIS topological database conversion, centerline building, topology building. And the construction of transportation network is performed using the program written in C that allows node and link data extraction from the topological database embedded in GIS. For this the ARC/INFO package has been used the overall procedure and algorithm has been tested for the Gangnam-Ku area with success, and it is estimated that the algorithm and procedure set forth here can be used other transportation application to reduce some costs associated.
A Study for the Implementation of Self-controlling Resource Model in the Simulation of Heavy Construction Operations

In order to provide a more user-friendly simulation modeling environment, this research identifies and designs a new simulation modeling approach which allows modularized model-building and step-by-step guidance in model building. In the course of performing this research, six basic types of state classes are identified and then designed. The six state classes embed knowledge about the construction resource behavior that corresponds to the operation structure. According to a given operation structure, they duplicate the behavior of construction resources. This research finally demonstrates simulation modeling procedure by utilizing this new modeling approach.
Productivity Improvement through Application of Discrete Event Simulation on Concrete Pavement Operations for Air-cargo Apron

Discrete event simulation has high potential as a management tool for construction projects in that it can facilitate construction operations experimentation on the computer before actual execution of a construction operation. The application of simulation, however, has been very limited to foreign cases in the construction industry. This research implements a simulation model for an air-cargo apron pavement operation, and then applies it to a real project, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport project. Through this application, this research reviews the applicability of discrete event simulation in the construction projects and evaluates time reduction and cost saving effects by the application of simulation.
A Comparative Analysis of Information Management System in Construction Management Softwares

The computerization is an important factor for scientific construction management. Construction management softwares (S/W) are being widely used for computerizing project control and scheduling. Construction information management system (CIMS) in construction management SW consists of code system, multiple project management system by the code, and information process system such as import/export and filter options that are used for classifying information by objective function. The CIMS in S/W enables various classifications of construction information by filtering, sorting and grouping the codes. This study analyzes the code system and information process system of three S/Ws, which are representatively used in the construction sites, through a comparative analysis for the applicability in construction management. Finally this study suggests a desirable structure of CIMS and a selection criterion of S/W to improve the applicability of construction management S/W in the construction sites. The proposed selection criterion can be used to purchase a proper S/W among various construction management S/Ws considering the size and characteristics of a project.
Evaluation Method for Vibration-Reduction Efficiency of Slab Track

In this paper, a numerical method for evaluating the efficiency of vibration reduction of substructure under floating slab track is developed for optimal design of floating slab track. The equation of motion for train and track interaction system is derived by applying compatibility condition at the contact points between wheels and rails. The train is modelled by 3-masses system and the track by continuous support beam system. Numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the effects of train speed, stiffness and damping of slab-pad, and track irregularity upon vibration reduction in substructure under the track.
Development of Components for Video Photogrammetry

It needs a field survey to get information on each kind of ground facilities on the road while the aerial photogrammetry is used for manufacture and update of digital maps. For the field survey through digital photogrammetry, some software packages have been developed with OOP(Object Oriented Programming) to obtain spatial and attribute information of facilities. Because it was available to reuse in the source code only, there were several problems that we had to recompile the whole code for upgrade and be same as the developing language. In order to improve these problems in this study, we developed three components for video photogrammetry with Visual C++6.0; DrawImage component, DltExtPara component, VPSDataManage component. First, The DrawImage component is the image control component that displays stereo image on the monitor and performs the functions of panning and matching. Secondly, The DltExtPara component is the orientation and positioning component that acquires oriented parameters and three-dimensional location information with DLT(Direct Linear Transformation) method. Lastly, The VPSDataManage component is the data management component for managing the whole process of video photogrammetry and for managing data during work process. We also developed automation server application with these components.
Pseudorange Smoothing Using Integrated Carrier Phase

In this study, three algorithms, satellite position calculation using broadcast ephemerides, the unknown point calculation using a single difference method, and the pseudorange modification using the integrated carrier phase which was converted to length unit, were rearranged to improve the accuracy of positioning by GPS code pseudorange modification. GPS raw pseudorange data which was obtained in about 5 minutes observation was modified and processed to solve unknown point using the above algorithms. These results were compared with the 1 hours static data processing and also compared with the raw pseudorange data processing result. As a result of this study, the processing results of the modified GPS pseudorange data were 5 times better than that of the raw data.
