Route Choice SP Model Considering Revealed Preference and Latent Variables on Inter-Urban

The Information System of Inter-urban transportation provides dynamic traffic information such as travel time and cost. Drivers can obtain real-time travel information from various information system and from on-road travel information boards while they're driving so that drivers can choose the most appropriate route to get their destination. In this study, Stated Preference (SP) survey about Highway and State Road has been done to see the factors for selecting the best alternative, and to check experientially the driver's route choice behavior it is researched that how much Revealed Preference (RP) influences SP to explain it. More over, the change of driver's route choice behavior has been studied when latent factors in RP and road image variables are considered. Furthermore, it has been realized that driver's SP route choice behavior is influenced by RP because of the improvement of model explanation as a result of building Discrete choice model which is formed from reflecting RP to SP to inquire into state dependence influence. At last, model explanation in discrete choice model considered latent factor is getting improved so that it is certain that latent factor variables can influence driver's route choice behavior.
Application of Sub-Area Analysis Techniques for TDM Policy Analysis

This study emphasizes improved techniques for analyzing TDM policies by increasing the level of details of traditional four-step transportation demand forecasting method. A desirable model needs to analize any changes of travel pattern affected by TDM measures. For this purpose, a micro representation network coding and multi-class traffic assignment algorithm are proposed. The study also emphasized the need of system-wide analysis for analyzing large-scale TDM policies. If TDM policies is expected to affect citywide network beyond the target area, the focusing approach is recommended for the concerning sub-area analysis. The focusing method makes possible to analyze not only sophisticated effects on the sub-area but also system-wide effects as the whole city simultaneously. The results of the focusing approach based on the four-step forecasting method can be used as basic data for evaluating TDM policies. For such evaluation, system-wide measurements of effectiveness are needed. This study suggests five system-wide measurements of determining the effectiveness of alternative TDM policies such as average trip distance, average travel time, average space mean speed, average volume-capacity ratio and average monetary cost. They can be used as critical indices in a TDM policy making process viewed from system-wide perspective of the effectiveness. This study analyzes the impacts of congestion charging and 5-day cycle car-using restriction policies appled for Yoi Island in Seoul, Korea as a case study by using myopic (windowing) and system-wide (focusing) analysis. As a result, the study shows that the myopic analysis can guide to wrong policy decisions. Therefore, the focusing method should be adopted for getting a better forecasting results of area-wide impacts of TDM.
The Optimal Location of School Bus Depot System

The purpose of this study is to formulate a model to determine the optimum number and location of school bus depots to minimize the transportation cost and fixed cost associated with the school bus depots. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer programming model with binary variables for fixed costs related to site choice and continuous variables for the flow of school bus. The objective function is to minimize the total cost, which includes the fixed cost of opening school bus depot, the variable costs of school bus depot operation and dead head transportation cost. Some assumptions were made for this model. Each school bus is only allowed to assign into one depot. The total number of assigned buses in each depot are equal to the expected depot capacity. Zero or certain number of buses are assigned in each depot. The total numbers of route are equal to the sum of depot capacity. A optimization software CPLEX is used to solve this mixed integer programming model. The result shows that the all school bus depot should be opened to minimize the school bus operation cost.
A Study on the Improvement of Operational Procedures Constructed Design-Build Contract (DBC) of Public Construction Project

Because the design-build contract (DBC) system in Korea has been applied by two categories, such as pre-design bid and detailed-design bid, it was difficult for project manager to have an effect of saving in construction duration. Recently, however, the DBC system is expected to be spreaded in construction market by the improvement of regulations related to the DBC. Though the DBC system is evaluated as an appropriate contract system for owners who have not much experience in specific construction, there are some problems, such as a uncertainty in quality management by a unified responsible system, in practical application. This study analyzes the basic problems of DBC system based on the research of various contract systems in Korea, and then suggests an improved method for the application of DBC as a construction contract system.
WBS for the Application of EVMS to Road Construction Projects

For the improvement of construction productivity as well as the empowerment of the construction industry, the Korea Government is planning to apply EVMS (Earned Value Management System) to public construction projects. This requires integrated management of cost and schedule information. This means the transition of Korean construction industry from cost-oriented construction management to schedule-based construction management. For the support of integrated management of cost and schedule information, this research analyzes domestic and international information classification systems for construction industry, and then proposes a standardized approach for the implementation of WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) in road construction projects.
The Characteristics of Reinforced Roadbed Settlement on High-Speed Railroad

The design criteria of reinforced roadbed is determinated by cyclic loading, drainage, geology, etc. Among others roadbed stiffness is most important. In this paper, settlements of roadbed concerned with upper-roadbed stiffness and reinforced roadbed thickness are estimated. To analyze settlement characteristics of roadbed, we perform numerical analysis using 3-dimension model and cyclic loading test using soil box and dual-actuator. To similar with actual roadbed condition, l/2 symmetric model is used with frequency and number of moving load. Through this test, we estimate elastic and plastic settlement and stress condition of the roadbed each case. From these results, settlement characteristics is derived which explain roadbed settlement concerned with road-bed stiffness and reinforced roadbed depth.
The Road Facilities Surveying by the Mobile Mapping System

Changes in land use and increasing demand for high quality GSIS (Geo-Spatial Information System) make GSIS related work difficult to solve. Updating database steadily has only been possible to a limited extent, since keeping map and GSIS data up-to-date is a labor-intensive task. Even many conventional hard copy maps have been converted into digital map, the fundamental problems for updating making digital maps remains a hard task. With the advent of technology, we can easily adapt to the quickly changing environment. Mobile mapping system is the one that can be readily applied to the quickly changing landscapes. Road corridor environments contain many objects such as traffic signs, power lines, light poles, trash cans, etc. Locating and updating the conditions of these road facilities is very labor intensive. These tasks require collecting vast quantities of data and processing them efficiently. So We developed our own cheap mobile mapping system and tested in the urban environment. We developed PC based interface for calculating 3 dimensional position of object from the stereo images captured by CCD cameras. The position of CCD camera has been supported by the integration of the GPS and IMU configuration.
Generation and Slope Analysis of Triangulated Irregular Network Using Radial Sweep Algorithm

In order to make the three dimensional modeling, terrain model has to be made in the form of digital elevation model. There are two kinds of method to make the triangulated irregular network. One is the delauny triangulation and the other is the radial sweep algorithm. In this study the radial sweep algorithm is proposed as the one for generating triangulation irregular network and its vertices are extracted from the contour layers in the digital map of study areas. Digital elevation model is generated by the interpolation of irregularly-distributed points using the piecewise Lagrange method. The slope analyses are performed about the 4 neighbors, 8 neighbors and advanced 8 neighbors in the generated digital elevation model. As the result of this study, the slope analysis of 4 neighbors was most effective in connotation and performance in the computer.
