Trip Generation Model of Work Trip from Seoul to Kyonggi Province

In Korea, work trip has been studied as a part of suburbanization. The study area has been focused on the city of Seoul and work trip to Seoul from other areas. Work trip from Seoul to other areas has not been considered yet. This paper shows the trend of work trip ken the city of Seoul to other areas in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) between 1986 and 1996 and analyzes the factors that have been mainly involved in generating the trips. Firstly, the work trip generation model of the SMA was developed by the multiple regression analysis with the principal component analysis. Secondly, the zones in the SMA were grouped based on the regional characteristics with the factor score. The work trip generation model from Seoul to each zone group was found. The most influential factors to generate the work trips were per capita income, number of male workers and auto average travel time. Also, it was frond that the model of the zone group is much more statistically confident than that of the SMA.
The Development of Ramp Metering Models on Freeway

In this studies, the linear programming models were emploged to formulate issues concerning the ramp control on freeways. In order to maximize the mobility of the main traffic on freeways, two different models such as New I and New II were proposed. The data on traffic volumes, vehicle and geometric characteristics were collected in order to predict the performance of proposed models. The New I model focuses on the characteristics of the nearest lane to ramp. The New II model focuses on the characteristics of 2 lanes close to ramp and the locations of the ramps. The models were validated with FREFLO, widely used for estimating traffic flow characteristics.
model developed in this study showed better travel time savings compared to other alternatives.
Method for Preparing Transit Line Schedule

This paper intends to provide a procedural transit scheduling methodology for a given transit line or rout with basic scheduling elements, focusing on creation of timetables of individual lines. Presently the time schedule in Korea is prepared mostly based on the past data and a rule of thumb method. Hence, transit companies and passengers often suffer from inappropriate and incorrect time schedules. Some of important relationship among the variables and parameters involved in the suggested method are also analyzed and identified. The adoption of suggested scheduling method will help a transit scheduler to prepare a better timetable than the present one, increasing the efficiency of train operation as well as the attractiveness of transit system for passengers.
A Study on Boundary Setting of Disaster Ares according to Explosion of Gas & Oil Station in Residental area that Apply to GIS Spatial Analysis Techniques

Urban areas is very sensitive area in fire. Specially, gas station and charging station are representative danger facilities which is situated residential quarter and business session neighborhood among large scale dangerous material storage equipment that exist in city. The fire of recently these dangerous material and explosion accident are increasing rapidly by oil and use enlargement of gas. So, because gas charging station and gas station fire bring huge damage, countermeasure is very pressing after national prevention and fire. But, systematic analysis and research are not gone in reply. In this research damage by gas charging station and gas station explosion among danger facilities applying GIS spatial analysis techniques the extent analyze. As a result, person's damage was construed to be biggest in store to slice. Relatively, damage area of Hwagokdong and Deungchondong that gas station and charging station mass was construed to be biggest. Therefore, could know that is available to accident disposal ability by gas charging station and gas station explosion through such result and base data of risk management system.
Prediction of Path Travel Time Using Kalman Filter

On-line application adaptability of Kalman filter to predict path travel times is investigated. The filter predicts link travel times for an hour with 5 minute intervals from probe vehicle data on two paths of Seoul Metropolitan where travel times randomly fluctuates all the time. Then, two different types of path travel times, instantaneous and experienced path travel times, are estimated and compared with real path time data. The filter quickly follows the fluctuation trend of the real path travel times. The result shows that the filter maintains a sound application possibility with minimal computation time. More paths in different areas need to be studied in next.
Analysis of Traffic Pattern on National Highways during National Holidays

Traffic patterns can be varied by numerous factors such as month of year, day of week, periods of day, time of day, minutes of hours and so forth. Especially, travel patterns during national holidays have shown a unique pattern compared to those during weekends. The study identifies effects of national holidays on travel patterns using data acquired from seventeen permanent traffic volume counting sites for six years. Traffic pattern comparisons (weekdays and weekends, weekends and national holidays weekends, and weekdays and national holiday weekdays) are conducted in this study to identify the differences of travel patterns. The differences and effects are evaluated and tested using coefficient of variation and Paired-t statistical test. Findings in this research are that 1) Chusuk National holiday produces the largest marginal traffic volumes, and national holidays on weekdays and weekend have larger traffic volumes than normal weekdays and weekend, respectively; 2) Coefficient of variation and Paired-t statistical test also show different traffic patterns between national holidays and normal days. The results can be utilized a platform data for strategic plans for traffic control and management during national holidays.
Development and Evaluation of Heart Wheel Load Simulator (HWLS)

Rutting in hot mixed asphalt concrete (HMAC) pavement has been considered as one of major problems in many countries. Many researchers have tried to predict performance of rutting or permanent deformation in laboratory. A wheel-tracking device has been adapted to evaluate rutting resistance from testing of various HMA over the past several decades. Several researches showed high correlations of pavement performance between the highway and lab results by wheel tracking test. Many kinds of wheel tracking device are currently available under different testing temperature and loading conditions. Existing wheel-tracking devices that developed by different institutes have some problems such as nonlinear loading speed on test specimen, uniform wheel path, impossibility of simulating under-layer effects and so on. Therefore, Heart Wheel Load Simulator (HWLS) was developed to improve the problems pavement engineer stands on. The HWLS is able to test various thickness of specimens with 50mm to 700mm estimating rutting performance by both shear failure and further compaction of pavement substructure. It can observe realistic rutting pattern by changing wheel path using random variable or scattering. In addition, the HWLS makes linear loading speed by oil compressor. Furthermore, linear kneading compaction was added as an additional function so that it can be used to conduct rutting behavior under various compaction efforts, especially fur full depth asphalt pavement. This paper covers outline of HWLS, calibration of the device, comparison of HWLS with existing wheel-tracking device, and different behavior of rutting resistance of typical HMAC under lateral distribution of traffic loading.
Analysis of Mechanical Characteristics Effecting on HMA by Asphalt Content and Voids

This study focused on laboratory evaluation of asphalt concrete mixture fur developing the improved mix design procedure of the asphalt aggregate mixture. The CBR tester and Indirect Tension Tester were used to investigate a relationship between air void and mechanical characteristic values in HMA. The laboratory test results of the
compressive strength at the 2.5mm penetration by using CBR tester and HMA compressive stiffness indicated that approximately 4% of air void is reasonable for HMA. With increasing of testing temperature, the
ratio resulted in reduction of approximately 60% compressive stiffness on compressive resistance. By the gradation analysis, the CBR compressive stiffness of the upper gradation of restricted zone is superior to that of the lower gradation. Also the specimen consisted of lower gradation shows greater
, strength at lower range of air void than that of the upper gradation. From the mechanical test result curves with air void content, the portion of the lower gradation shows a mild slope, whereas the portion of the upper gradation shows a steep slope. Based on the results of the present study, the specimen consisted of the upper gradation gives outstanding durability of HMA and there must pay careful control of gradation at pavement road with HMA.
Anti-frost Layer of Road Pavement for Effectiveness Verification by Site Measure and Laboratory Testes

Korea is considered to be a seasonal frozen soil area that is thawed in the Spring, and most of the area is frozen in Winter except Cheju island and the south coast. Wishing to prevent the damage of frost heaving, it seems to be a viable idea to put an antifrost layer over pavements. However, because of indiscreet setup of these antifrost layers, the national budget is often wasted. Therefore, it is our motivation to measure the moisture content and temperature change etc. in filled-up ground by a field measurement and laboratory tests in this research to confirm the effectiveness of the anti-frost layer. First, underground instruments are embedded in each field to record the fluctuation in moisture content of the filled-up ground during rainy and dry season and to investigate the saturation level of two Held sites in the southern area of Korea. Next, a confirmation of freezing damage is carried out at some moisture content and various temperature conditions to verify the effect of the temperature change and the moisture content change between the freezing period and thawing period by field measurements and laboratory tests.
Development of Fuzzy Model for Risk Analysis of Large Construction Projects

Recently, our construction market recognizes the necessity of risk management, however the practical system is still limited in application on the construction site because the methodology for analyzing and quantifying construction risk and for building actual risk factors is not easy. This study suggests a risk management method by fuzzy theory, which is using subjective knowledge of an export and linguistic value, to analyze and Quantify risk factors. The result of study is expected to improve the accuracy of risk analysis because three factors, such as probability, impact and exposure, for estimating membership function are introduced to quantify each risk factor.
Development of the Model Improving Productivity of PSM(Precast Span Method) - Focusing on the Case of H, D Company -

This research examines the outline of Precast Span Method(PSM) applied to Korea Train Express(KTX) project, problems with its application to the construction site and the productivity. Productivity decline that appeared in applying new technology such as KTX is caused by many things such as lack of work's comprehension about the method and manager's inadequate management. Specially, in case of example company H and D, early productivity decline phenomenon appears apparently, which would be big hazardous factor in the further projects. Therefore, this paper presents productivity elevation model that can generalize productivity improvement through evaluating PSM production process based on productivity theory and teaming theory about the causes of the productivity decline.
A Study on the Character of Urban Structure in Busan Metropolitan City

The growth of a city has brought affluence and wealth to the citizens, yet it frequently Onuses the problem of a lack of available land needed fur the continuous growth of the city. To deal with the problem, a number of remedies, such as development of suburban area, reclamation of the foreshore, development of mountain area, have been introduced. Recently, a particular attention has been increasingly given on the development of urban underground space. This paper evaluates the feasibility of use of underground space in Busan City, by reviewing and discussing the cases of underground development projects both in Korea and other countries. By doing this, this paper also suggests the direction of the long-term policies related to the Character of urban structure in Busan Metropolitan City.
Development of Design Equation of Minimal Buckling Strength of Track

In this study, a empirical equation which can be feasibly used to evaluate minimal track buckling strength without exact numerical analysis is presented. Parameter studies are carried out to investigate the effects of the individual factor on buckling strength. In order to simulate track buckling in the field as precisely as possible, a rigorous buckling model which accounts for all the important parameters is adopted. A empirical equation for prediction of minimal track buckling strength is derived by taking nonlinear regression of data which are obtained from numerical analyses. Its characteristics and applicability are investigated by comparing the results by the presented equation with the one by the equation which was presented in Japan, and is frequently using in korea.
Simulation of Internet DGPS for Efficient Monitoring of Mobile

The aim of this paper is to simulate DGPS for Efficient monitoring of mobile by transmitting GPS correction messages via internet. Server and client system were developed to communicate between reference station and rover via internet and module was developed to display the digital map of restricted area according to the monitor resolution, and then Internet DGPS was ultimately simulated. To transmit DGPS correction messages economically, the accuracy from coordinate correction method and pseudorange correction method was compared by changing the number of GPS satellite data, observed in rover GPS receiver. As a result, the accuracy is more dependent on the number of observed GPS satellite data rather than the correction method.
Acquisition of 3-D Position for Inaccessible Area Using KOMPSAT-1 Images

In this paper, we performed three dimensional positioning far inaccessible area using the ancillary data and strip images of KOMPSAT-1, and analyzed error trend. Strip images were composed using the seven images acquired successively along the track. As performing the geometric modeling for the strip image using only the ancillary data of images, we could find that there is the constant offset of three dimensional position along the satellite orbit track. To remove this kind of error, we implemented the error correction after locating one GCP on the first image of strip. As the result, we presented the ability of 3D positioning fur inaccessible area using the strip images.
Development of GSIS Base Data System for efficient Dam Management

GSIS had been utilized mainly in basin extraction, rainfall distribution analysis, runoff analysis, water quality pollution analysis in water resource fields. But, application example of GSIS for Dam Management is real condition that there does not exist yet. Construction direction by fields must be presented through business analysis of existing Dam and application system of KOWACO fur efficient Dam Management using GSIS. And, it needs to construct DB and embody GSIS system according to these contents. We analyzed unit business by Department and visited existing Dam in order to manage base data that need in Dam Management to Yongdam Dam in this research by GSIS. Also, this research presented GSIS construction direction by fields through Water Resources Management Information System and Dam Facility Management System that are operated by KOWACO. This research embodied system that can carry out Facility Management, Thematic Map Management, Topographic Analysis among these construction direction in advance and added function to manage Digital Map. Systems that embody in this research can achieve various spatial analysis taking advantage of DEM and TIN information besides Facility Management that embodies in existing vector base.
Lens Distortion Correction for CCD Camera using Projective Transformation Method

In this study we developed Lens distortion correction programs for CCD(Charge Coupled Device) camera that will used at mobile mapping system. It is difficult to take a picture of target sheet with accurate centering because CCD camera does not have fiducial marks. Therefore we eliminate roll, pitch and yaw of a camera by using 2D projective transformation method. This method selects 4 control points that have equal distance from center of target sheet and have the most border position. And using 4 control points transform other points into new position. Considering the result of lens distortion correction using newly developed program in this study, we can conclude that the preprocessing using 2D projective transformation contributed to increase correction accuracy.
The Crack Information Acquisition of Concrete Object by Digital Image Processing

This study is an acquisition of objective information for cracks which is producted to concrete structure. Also, It Is fundamental study for an extraction of crack information as well as drawing of total crack map that is used a geometric correction of digital image and edge extraction method. The results showed that this study can be efficiently used in extraction of crack information over the crack size limit and is possible for application in practical business. Also, It will sure the improvement of efficient in safety inspection and can be efficiently applied to outside investigation in the concrete structure.
The Study on the Calculation of Reservoir Capacity of DAM using TIN Data Model in GSIS

It is very important to decide water supply and discharge that the accurate calculation of water capacity that is kept in store to dam. Existing reservoir capacity was calculated through topography survey and curve equation between water level and reservoir capacity was determined based on real reservoir capacity. Therefore, much times and expense were cost to decide reservoir capacity and curve equation by water level. In this study, the contour line of digital map is utilized to construct Triangle Irregular Network in GSIS, and time in this research and constructed TIN. Also, We could know there is determinant coefficient 0.999 as results that analyze reservoir capacity by curve equation and TIN and could know that reservoir capacity calculation method by TIN is more effective than existent method in time and expense aspect.
A Study on Change Detection of Land Cover in The INCHEON Coast Using Landsat Images and GIS Tool

The information about land use presents future development and vision being the basis of nation development. therefore, it is necessary to more active research that can detect wide land use and changes for the information and efficient management about land use. In this study, we wished to analyze effectively land use changes to west coastal area that is fast changing land use by the latest national land development and urbanization. this study executed land cover classification using 4 year's Landsat TM images including INCHEON in west coast, and efficiently could manage the result of land cover changes through Arc/Info GRID analysis. specially, by using ArcView, we could variously detect land cover changes, and query and search easily past land cover changes of pixel that correspond to specific region.
