A Study on the Spatial Transferability of the Parking Place Choice Model Using Individual Behavioral Model -The Case of Shopping Trips-

This study documents analysis of the spatial transferability of a parking facility choice model for shopping trip, a type of individual behavioral model which is derived using the stated preference data collected in Taegu metropolitan area and Gyeongsan city. The results show that the sign of all the estimated parameters are logically consistent and the model's goodness of fit is reasonably good. And the results of the spatial transferability analysis in the differrent metropolitan areas show that almost all the evaluation indexes are statistically significant. This means that it is able to derive a parking facility choice model without the survey or data, and the results of this study are expected to provide a fundamental data for cost-effective parking demand managements policy.
Effectiveness of Latent Class Multinominal Logit Model Considering Latent Class with Homogeneousness

Therefore, we confirm the effectiveness of LCML model that can consider latent class with homogeneousness as comparing with MNL model, the latent class exist in the road users, and what factors were considered in route choice behavior by latent class in this study. Traditional MNL model supposes that the road users are only one class, but latent classes with homogeneousness in the road users exist in reality. This fact is very important problem to understand the decision-making process of the road users. As the result of modeling, it is increase the likelihood ratio of LCML model than MNL model. So, we found that latent class exists in the road users and latent class considered the different factors in route choice behavior. Especially, LCML model can improve the effectiveness for traffic information because can find main target class and effective factors among latent classes. According to the result above, when offer the traffic information, we found that it is important to construct effective traffic information system as setting the main target class for information and offering a verity information.
Cognitive Evaluation of Road Geometrical Structure with Statical Situation Considering Human Sensibility Factors

In this paper, we made 3D graphics with three-dimension combined alignments, and carried out a surveying for image, to found road and environmental factors that drivers have felt, in kansei engineering. Be based on surveyed data, analyze the characteristics of image by principal component analysis, and made LISREL (Linear Structural Relationships) model for road safety evaluation that considering individual attribute, and road geometrical structure condition. To the result of analysis, road geometrical structure designer will control three-dimension combined alignments, reduce a grade to a minimum in unavoidable situation, and add facilities as a traffic signs. Therefore, drivers will cope with a danger as the recognition of three-dimension combined alignments.
Enhancement of Idetification of Potentially Hazardous Highway Segments

This study is to provide an enhanced methodology to identify the potentially hazardous highway segments. The evaluation of safety of highway segment was based on the rate-quality-control-method. Compared to prevailing number-of-accident-method, this method can consider the highway environment such as traffic volume and be regarded to be statistically reliable for the identification of potential of accident occurrence. In addition, the slider-length-method was adopted. The desirable slider length was suggested by comparing the prevailing 200m and minimum stopping sight distance. As the results, the minimum stopping sight distance can be recommended instead of 200m. When the accident site is located at the ending point of a slider, the result of the identification shows better consistency.
Comparison of Road Supply Level of Large Cities in Korea and Japan

This study compares road supply level of Korean cities with that of Japanese, taking into account several important factors such as city land area, population, gross domestic product and vehicle ownership. Results of the comparison of the largest cities of Korea and Japan show that the level of road infrastructure in Korea's cities lags significantly behind that of Japanese cities. In a comparison of cities within each country, Seoul and Tokyo are both shown to have the best road infrastructure in their respective countries. Though land coefficient theory, developed by Hujii and one method of comparison used in this paper, is limited to consider for certain factors such as effective road traffic operations, spatial function of roads, graph theory, etc. Thus, further research that accounts for these factors is needed.
A Study of Estimate Lateral Width Widenings for Ensuring Sight Distance on Horizontal Curve Section

Although sight distance is the most important factor considered in road design, road designers consider vehicle dynamic characteristic prior to sight distance in actual design. Especially for the horizontal curve section, since sight distance is obstructed by soundproof wall or cutting slope for the right curve and median barrier for the left curve, there are many problems for safety. To solve these problems, many road designers have proposed the lateral clearance measured from the road center to the obstruction adaptable for only simple circular curve not for the compound curve with spiral and simple circular section. This study suggests a new method for the calculation of the lateral clearance width to ensure stopping sight distance on the compound curve with spiral and simple circular section.
The Study on Backcalculation of Pavement Moduli with Genetic Algorithms

Most existing backcalculation programs using a numerical analysis method need both the extent and initial values of elastic moduli. They, therefore, have defect such as the accuracy of solution can become different because they react very sensitively in those values. To solve these problems, the GABack program, which applied genetic algorithms to backcalculation process, was developed in this study. This program can backcalculate global optimum solution regardless of initial values of elastic moduli. The result of GABack program was analysed with that of common backcalculation programs by using surface deflection data of asphalt concrete pavement measured by a FWD equipment. From this test, the results of GAback program was reasonable because results of GABack and MICHBACK program expressed comparatively smaller % error value than that of other programs. In this study, the generation No.100 was proposed as a second terminating condition because almost all results of convergence tendency analysis using a mean object function value of parent pool were converged between No. 20 and No. 80.
A Study on the Modeling of Construction Information Classification System for Civil Engineering Projects

The applicability of construction information classification system (CICS) for civil engineering projects is not optimistic as compared with building projects. One of the main reasons is that the classified items for civil engineering projects in the existing systems, such as national integrated classification system and Uniclass, are artificially classified within the CICS. This study attempts to develop a new CICS model that each facet, such as facility, space, element, and construction operation, consists of two kinds of standard subjects. The suggested model can be a theoretical basis of CICS for civil engineering projects, and the applicability of the system is verified by actual construction data. The results of the study include a computerized system for generating classification system on the Internet, and the system can be used as a module for consisting CICS in a construction management system.
The Study of Improvement Plan for Technique and Competitive Power of Construction Project Management

After the introduction of Construction Management, it is urgently demanded of Korean construction companies to form a competitive system with foreign companies through improvement of EC capability. Therefore, it is necessary to diagnose Korean construction engineers' technical capability accurately and provide measures to resolve the issue. The purpose of this paper is to present the directions as to how the Construction Management will take root in the future and its technical improvement by analyzing field engineers' performance capability, their degree of understanding and awareness of information system at the site through questionnaire.
A Study on 2D-Based Earthwork Planning Methods

The earthwork operation for developing housing areas is a 2D distribution of soils, not a 1D distribution, which is performed in the area of road constructions. The most important things for planning the earthwork operation are the balancing of cut and fill volumes and the minimization of hauling distance in the 2D space. In this paper, two approaches for effective soil distribution are suggested. The first one is a quadtree method, which can effectively model a 2D construction space, store the information on the types and volumes of soil in a mesh, and assign one or more adequate filling meshes to each cutting mesh. The second one is a transportation model, one of linear programing, which can find a optimal solution for selecting one or more filling areas for a cutting mesh, considering the haul distance. This paper is also described a task package scheduling rule for generating the sequences of task packages, and the prototype of an earthwork distribution software.
Graphical Control Interface for Automation of Construction and Maintenance

This paper concerns graphical control interfaces for automating and/or improving the controllability of construction and facility/infrastructure maintenance equipment. In the graphical control interface based control scheme, an operator controls the equipment utilizing real-time updated graphical representations of equipment, work environment, and facility design information. A graphical environment provides better spatial perception to operators of large-size or tele-operated equipment. Real-time simulation and task planning with graphical models can also ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment. In addition, graphical interfaces can assist the operator to plan, measure, and record work progress by integrating design CAD data for facilities to be constructed with graphical models of equipment and work environments. The paper introduces the concepts and the functionalities of graphical control interfaces and presents an exemplary case study on this emerging technology. The presented case study regards the development of 3D graphical control interface of teleoperated clinker clearing robot for automating a power plant maintenance process.
A Study on the Problem Analysis and Improvement Plan Development of the Current Construction Cost Saving Policy in the Public Educational facilities Projects

The ministry of education and human resource development has implemented the construction cost saving policy since 1998. The national universities and regional education authorities have been required to follow the details of the policy in constructing educational facilities in their jurisdiction. While the policy has positive effect on construction cost saving of the public entities, it has been criticized from the beginning of its implementation because of its negative impact on project quality, education quality, trust as to the public sector construction business, and solvent operation of the private construction companies that are supposed to build the educational facilities for the entities. The research aims at investigating the pitfalls of the policy and suggesting more reasonable approaches that can satisfy both the governmental entities and the private companies.
A Study on the Development of 3D Web-Map using VRML

It is very difficult assignment to grasp three dimensional real world in Web based network environment. But, the recent simulation tools embody third dimension elements within 2 dimensions screen that is limited through three dimensional implementation technology. Many GIS tools are offering excellent functions for three dimensional data creation. But, research about design of three dimensional GIS that use virtual reality technique in Web environment is status that is unprepared. So, in this research embodied third dimension topography map using virtual reality modelling language to produce active three dimensional VR map that can supply visual information for direction, visual point that want in World Wide Web without support of expensive Map exclusive use program. And these 3D Web-Map is thought that possibility is enough as next generation map medium.
Determination of Coastline by the RTK GPS/GLONASS Combination Method

To extract the coastline with the aerial photogrammetry is not economical in case of the accuracy and expense though the coastline is shown by the longitude and latitude for getting accurate and consistent information. Moreover the coastline of the digital map through the aerial photogrammetry is lack of indicating the existing variable terrain. So, in this study, realtime GPS technique and combination of GPS/GLONASS technique are used to extracting coastline. The object of coastline is Gwanganri beach located in Busan. The coastline is observed along the traces of coastline when high wave of scar by using digital map of 1:1,000 and at random time zone, coastline is surveyed along the boundary line that is contacting with sea water level. and when the coastline of random time zone is converted by height of tide table, the coastline when high wave of scar and converted coastline are shown as coincident approximately.
Comparison of DEM Preprocessing Method for Efficient Watershed and Stream Network Extraction

Watershed boundary and stream network can be extracted from DEM(Digital Elevation Model) using GIS software such as ARC/INFO or ArcView Spatial Analyst. However, there exist many errors in the generated watershed boundary and stream network just by operating sink removal function of the present software. This paper present the error reducing method to delineate watershed boundary and generate stream network especially in plane areas by using stream burning techniques known as Fillburn (Saunders and Maidment, 1996) and Agree burn (Hellweger, 1991). These preprocessing techniques of DEM dramatically decreased the errors comparing with the results by no-burn DEM.
Analysis of Accuracy for the Control Points Using the GPS Continuous Stations

To acquire coordinates of underground facilities and road and road facilities that are the basic data of urban information system, the control point surveying must be performed first. there are a lot of studies about control surveying and detail surveying using GPS which offers uniform accuracy in wide area rapidly. Control surveying using GPS needs lots of time and efforts in exploring and occupation the nation control points because the present GPS procedure use fixed points with data received on the nation control points. In this study we analyze accuracy according to baseline and number of GPS continuous stations. Consequently the case which use fixed point with two close range GPS continuous stations shows the best result.
Generation of Large Scale Image Map using Video Images

Recently, raster data are widely used such as aerial photo and satellite imagery given a geographic information of real world which digital topographic map cannot be presented. In this study, we acquired video sequences using airship photogrammetric system to obtain raster data for a small-scale area effectively and captured frame images from video sequences. Also, as we developed image map processing system which can generate image map using the captured frame images, we showed that video sequences obtained from the low altitude have possibilities to produce large scale image map.
Methodology for Selection of Poor-Shaped Aggregate for Asphalt Concrete

Coarse aggregate used for asphalt pavement is a very important material that greatly controls performance of pavement by affecting stiffness, rutting and strength of highway asphalt concrete which requires high quality materials. Poor shape of aggregate had higher abrasion ratio and lower percentage of solid. Also, the mixture with poor-shaped aggregate had worse Marshall properties and required higher asphalt content in mix design. Moreover, excessive content of poor-shaped aggregates in mixture resulted in degradation of quality in asphalt mixture compaction. Therefore, this study compared with mechanisms of selection efficiency for poor-shaped (i.e. flaky and elongated) aggregate in common crushed aggregate. Selection technologies used in this study include a vibration separation, special sieve analysis and sliding plate method. It is considered that vibration separation method, which showed minimum 81% of selection ratio of visual-manual selection, was actually the highest practical potential for selection of poor-shaped aggregate.
