Development of Lane-changing Model for Two-Lane Freeway Traffic Based on CA

The various behaviors of vehicular traffic flow are generated through both car-following and lane-changing behaviors of vehicles. Especially lane-usage varies by lane-changing behaviors. In the area of microscopic vehicle simulation, a lane-changing model connected to a car-following model parallel is essential to generate both various traffic flows relationships and laneusages. In Korea, some studies on car-following models have been reported, but few studies for lane-changing models stay in the beginning stage. In this paper, a two-lane changing model for the simulation modeling of large freeway network is introduced. The lane-changing model is developed based on CA (Cellular Automata) model. The developed model is parallel combined with an existing CA car-following model and tested on a closed link system. The results of simulation show that the developed model generates the various behaviors of lane usage, which existing CA lane-changing models could not generate. The presented model is expected to be used for the simulation of more various freeway traffic flows.
LOS Evaluation of Urban Freeway by the Occupancy Characteristics

Generally, density is used as a measure of effectiveness (MOE) of the level of service (LOS) for the basic segment of the roadway facility, but can not express the operational condition of the roadway facility properly because there can be an error in the computed density compared with the density measured in the field. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the real-time traffic characteristic data (traffic flow, speed, occupancy, headway, spacing, etc.) from the detectors installed on the mainline section of urban freeway under the study, analyze the maximum flow rate from the relationship between the real-time traffic characteristics collected, and evaluate the LOS criteria within the basic segment of the urban freeway based on the relationship between the occupancy and the v/c ratio depending on the level of service.
A Comparative Study on Statistical Clustering Methods and Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps for Highway Characteristic Classification of National Highway

This paper is described clustering analysis of traffic characteristics-based highway classification in order to deviate from methodologies of existing highway functional classification. This research focuses on comparing the clustering techniques performance based on the total within-group errors and deriving the optimal number of cluster. This research analyzed statistical clustering method (Hierarchical Ward's minimum-variance method, Nonhierarchical K-means method) and Kohonen self-organizing maps clustering method for highway characteristic classification. The outcomes of cluster techniques compared for the number of samples and traffic characteristics from subsets derived by the optimal number of cluster. As a comprehensive result, the k-means method is superior result to other methods less than 12. For a cluster of more than 20, Kohonen self-organizing maps is the best result in the cluster method. The main contribution of this research is expected to use important the basic road attribution information that produced the highway characteristic classification.
Development of Road-Extension Rate Index and International Comparison of Road Stock

The Investment to road projects has been a hot issue in the aspect of its possible overlapping or overinvestment in Korea. Therefore, additional road construction is not always accepted in these days. This paper investigated several indices including the country index and the road-extension rate index as well as a newly developed index for identifying and comparing road stocks among the OECD countries. Furthermore, the study has estimated some reasonable amount of additional road stocks of Korea when its GDP becomes twenty thousands per capita to forty thousands per capita in future by comparing the amount of stacks of OECD countries at those times. The result can be used for setting the target of road stocks in practical manner in the absence of the universally accepted theory in the road stock provision arena.
Experimental Analysis of the Impact on the Aggressive Following Vehicle by Passenger Vehicle Tinting

The purpose of this study is to verify the safety issue of the tinted vehicle based on the field study as well as the issue of the capacity reduction from the tinted vehicle. Through this study, an innovative experimental method to verify the issues was developed using RTK GPS receivers, and a data collection was conducted using the developed experimental method. Using the collected data, the effects of the ahead vehicle with the windows tinted on the traffic condition such as headways and acceleration noise were analyzed to test that the ahead vehicle with windows tinted too darkly affects the increasing vehicle maneuver as following the degree of tinting. This study was conducted as a frontier study and more studies, for example, full scale analyses considering various road and vehicle conditions need to be conducted in the future.
Quantity-based Early Cost Estimation Model for Road Construction Projects

Cost estimation in the early phase enables government to plan public budgeting more efficiently by providing information about construction cost. However, cost estimation in the early phase is difficult to predict because only a little information can be utilized. The cost estimation method now being used by the government is calculated by length of the road multiplied by unit cost per length and shows high error rate because it cannot reflect the unique characteristics of each project. As the project is being proceeded, level of available information also changed. So, reflecting available information of a project is important. This paper divided early phase into two parts : planning phase and early design phase, and developed cost estimation model considering level of available information of each phase. Total 143 cases are utilized to find influencing variables and develop cost estimation model and model validation is done by adopting required accuracy level. This cost estimation model reflecting level of available information can be applied to public budgeting, feasibility test, and comparison between routes.
Decision Support Model for Determining Public or Private Highway Investment Projects

Korean government is investing 1.8 billion won on infrastructure and investment on PPP projects constitutes 16.3%. This phenomenon is to promote private investment as well as lessening government burdens of public budgeting. However, the only criterion to be considered is government financial status in selecting public or private highway investment projects. So systematic decision support model is required in choosing public or private highway investment projects. So, this paper suggests a systematic decision support model for deciding public or private highway investment at the early stage of project planning. Furthermore, this paper identifies key decision variables with respect to economic, politic, project management criterions based on the related literatures and feedbacks from experts. This paper analyzed 30 cases of government investment and PPP projects and got the survey result from highway specialists. As a result, this paper presents an interval with respect to economic criteria using mean and standard deviation and a logistic regression equation which can predict the possibility of PPP project. Through this study, decision maker of central or local government can decide public or PPP highway project more systematically and reasonably.
A Case Study of Implementation for Cash Flow Forecasting System in a Construction Company

This research introduces the implementation for cash flow forecasting system in construction company through a case study. The implemented system shows how to develop overall corporate-level and project-level cash flow forecasting model based on a real business process in construction company. It takes 1 year to implement system. The study proposes the way of system design, process of system design, and considerations of implementation in step by step. Moreover, it shows main screen, limitation and reliability of the system. The proposed model is validated accurate, flexible and simple as a result of comparing actual data to forecasting data for 2 years. This system is easy to approach the employee who don't have any financial knowledge. This research is expected to assist to implement system of cash flow forecasting in construction company.
Improving the Design-phased VE Process of Public Clients in Relation to Using Critical Success Factors

The major changes in construction environment are that construction project is bigger and more complicated and the power of construction market changes from the supplier to the client or the user. Especially public construction enterprises have advanced to introduce the value engineering (VE) which is one of the cost management based on the owner's leading at the design phase for economical efficiency and quality improvement. According to the these efforts, the implementation of VE was legislated in the revised Construction Technology Management Act in 2000, governmental agencies, local autonomies, and construction public enterprises universally has taken the VE into consideration. In this circumstance, the scope that VE construction applied at 50 billion won projects from 2003 has been extended to 10 billion won projects in 2006. Therefore, the VE construction will be activated in the future. The cost savings and function improvement, which are the purpose of VE are not only construction public enterprises, but also every public client supported from government's budget or owned by the government. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the improved process and performance index of VE for governmental agencies, local autonomies, and construction public enterprises which want to introduce or improve the VE process. This research also suggested the To-be design-phased VE process model. In addition, it suggested the To-be model of design management reflected the To-be design-phased VE process model, which is eliminated two problems reflected for the performance improvement of the As-is model of design management.
Analysis of Determinants on Residential Resettlement in Accordance with Urban Regeneration

The aim of this study is to analyze the evaluations and determinants on residential resettlements in accordance with urban regeneration by 7,396 samples from 19 housing redevelopment districts in Busan. The major finding on determinants on residential resettlements in accordance with urban regeneration are as follows; A binary logit model for determinants on residential resettlements in accordance with urban regeneration are composed of owner's characteristics, land and building characteristics, housing complex characteristics, and location characteristics. The significant variables in relation to owner's characteristics are owner's age, owner's place of residence, the possession period against property and investment intention. As a result of logit model for residential resettlements, it shows that the variables in relation to land and building characteristics are the land classification, the use of building, the size of land or building, the permission of building and the appraisal price on land and building. This result means that actual customer's investment connects to resettlement after redevelopment project. The other side, the housing complex variables consist of the brand of construction company, the ratio of large size housing and floor are ratio shows that improvable conditions for housing value are important factor to induce residence's resettlement. The location variables show that Dongbusan has higher probability, the reverse Jungbusan has lower probability in residential resettlement likewise residential preference.
A Study on Feature Selection and Feature Extraction for Hyperspectral Image Classification Using Canonical Correlation Classifier

The core of this study is finding out the efficient band selection or extraction method discovering the optimal spectral bands when applying canonical correlation classifier (CCC) to hyperspectral data. The optimal efficient bands grounded on each separability decision technique are selected using Multispec
software developed by Purdue university of USA. Total 6 separability decision techniques are used, which are Divergence, Transformed Divergence, Bhattacharyya, Mean Bhattacharyya, Covariance Bhattacharyya, Noncovariance Bhattacharyya. For feature extraction, PCA transformation and MNF transformation are accomplished by ERDAS Imagine and ENVI software. For the comparison and assessment on the effect of feature selection and feature extraction, land cover classification is performed by CCC. The overall accuracy of CCC using the firstly selected 60 bands is 71.8%, the highest classification accuracy acquired by CCC is 79.0% as the case that executes CCC after appling Noncovariance Bhattacharyya. In conclusion, as a matter of fact, only Noncovariance Bhattacharyya separability decision method was valuable as feature selection algorithm for hyperspectral image classification depended on CCC. The lassification accuracy using other feature selection and extraction algorithms except Divergence rather declined in CCC.
