An Estimation of Willingness to Pay for Advanced Public Transportation Services Using SP

In the coming ubiquitous society, the importance of developing advanced public transportation systems (APTS) corresponding to individuals' needs and useful in their daily life is profound. In these regards, the study proposed new APTS services: Free internet access service and On-board real time traffic information service in public modes. A stated preference (SP) survey was performed to investigate individual's preference and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for the proposed APTS services. Multinomial logit models (MNL) incorporating the heterogeneity of respondents were developed to analyze individuals' preference and the difference of WTP. Some results of the study showed that the respondents' preferences were significantly different by in-vehicle travel times (30 min, 60 min) and their socioeconomic background. More respondents prefer new APTS services when invehicle travel time takes longer. For the housewife and self-employed group, the mean WTP for on-board realtime traffic information was higher than that of free internet access services, while for the company employees and students group, the mean WTP was similar in both services.
Analysis of Speed-Density Correlation on a Merge Influence Section in Uninterrupted Facility

Uninterrupted facility - since there is a close relationship between traffic volume, speed and density -, when a ramp traffic flow merges into the main line, will change the traffic speed or density, and the corresponding correlational model equation will be changed. Thus, this study, using time and space-series traffic data on areas under the influence of such a merging, identified sections which changed the correlation between speed and density variables, and examined such changes. As a result, the upstream and merging sections showed the "Underwood"-shaped exponent, and the downstream after passing the merging section showed a straight line "Greenshields" model. The downstream section which changed the correlation between speed and density showed a gradual downstream movement phenomenon within 100 m-500 m from the end of the third lane linking with the ramp, as the traffic approached the inner lanes. Also, the upstream section, merging section, and downstream section involving a change showed heterogeneous traffic flows which, in the speed-density model, have a statistically different free flow speed (constant) and a different ratio of free flow speed to jam density (gradient).
Estimation of Parking Requirements of an Apartment

This study verifies parking requirements of an apartment suggested in parking generation law in Korea through analysing the surveyed parking generation rate. It is revealed that the parking requirements according to the gross floor area in parking generation law is similar to the surveyed parking generation rate as an average but the differences of each requirements by region and apartment's size are not significant. Parking generation rate results in strong correlation with the number of household rather than the gross floor area, and the new requirements suggested in this study, based on the number of household, shows significant difference by region and apartment's size, which is consistent with common sense. This study suggests parking requirements of an apartment, based on the number of household, by region and apartment's size for 6 groups. Surveyed parking generation rate of each group is fitted to statistical distribution and the mean value of fitted statistical distribution is suggested as the parking requirements of each group. Parking requirements based on the number of household is easily recognized of its relative and absolute value, and moreover is consistent with the surveyed parking generation rate.
A Flow Rate Estimation Model Development and Its Application in the Ubiquitous Environment

u-T (ubiquitous transportation) environment can be envisioned as an advanced version of ITS environment and be expected to provide more advanced transportation service in a ubiquitous manner. As a basic necessity to measure traffic flow in both environments, a flow estimation method was proposed. Flows have been measured in existing ITS and in a new u-T environments and some differences were investigated using simulation technique. In the interrupted traffic situation, the flow rate of u-T is 3.58% higher than that in ITS environment. Both MARE and MAE, which were used as measure of effectiveness, in u-T were better since the results are 31.4% and 31.1% lower than in ITS, respectively. Besides the equality coefficient in u-T was 1.9% higher than that in ITS. Such being the case, the flow rate measured in u-T using U-TSN is more reliable and can be expected to be successfully used for transportation system design or traffic operation areas.
An Empirical Analysis of Influencing Factors toward Public Transportation Demand Considering Land Use Type Seoul Subway Station Area in Seoul

Even if Seoul City administration improved its public transportation service, transportation model share in seoul has not been increased. Subway user is also decreasing. Therefore, policy transition into TOD(Transit Oriented Development) should be applied in oder to enhance subway modal share. This paper develops a influencing model by using variables of transportation demand and supply. In addition, it provides major influencing factors for users in subway station area and level of transportation supply based on the analysis results. The results show that: first, cluster analysis presents that traffic pattern is proved to be different according to land use characteristics(residence, non-residence); second, main transportation variables such as transferring distance, the number of bus stop, the number of short distant bus lines, and the number of bicycle are more supplied in residential area compared to non-residential areas; third, the number of lines, bus dispatching interval, operating time, and distance between subway stations are more supplied in non-residential areas than residential areas. All in all, the results will be useful for providing priority of considerations in case of decision-making on public transportation policy in subway station area.
A Development of Integrated Evaluation Criteria for Level of Service on Urban Roadways

This research developed integrated service assessment index on satisfaction with road use in consideration of not only quantitative parts, such as the existing traffic speed and delay but also qualitative parts, such as traffic information and traffic safety, etc. The newly devised assessment index developed assessment items and weight using ANP analysis method through the existing research results and questionnaire survey on traffic experts and road users. To verify the developed assessment index, this research measured the feeling degree of road users in time of their driving and analyzed the reasons using the brain waves tester; as an analysis result, the speed shown in the existing assessment index was found to have a 35% effect and further, the factors, such as traffic safety and traffic information were also found to have a lot of effects on the road
feeling degree. Accordingly, the integrated assessment index suggested by this research has its significance in that it is available to assessment in view of users rather than the existing satisfaction with the service in road use, and this index was developed to reflect the needs of the times, such as a fine view of roads, traffic information, and traffic safety.
Evaluation of Fatigue Endurance on Expansion Joint Manufactured Fe-Mn Damping Alloy

The endurance of expansion joint manufactured the Fe-Mn damping alloy reducing noise and vibration is analyzed into FEM (Finite Element Method) and fatigue test. The fatigue test have been performed using the expansion joint manufactured Fe-Mn damping alloy and the hydraulic actuator (25tonf). And the results of fatigue test show that the maximum strength is 237.6 MPa. Also that is 56.6 percent of Fe-Mn damping alloy yield strength (420 MPa). The loading plate size is prepared
and the loading plate's set position is located on expansion joint. The expansion joint manufactured the Fe-Mn damping alloy had not presented breaking behavior against 2,000,000 times fatigue test and identified the fatigue endurance.
Validation of Permanent Deformation Model for Flexible Pavement using Accelerated Pavement Testing

This paper presents the results of accelerated pavement tests (APT) that simulate permanent deformation (rutting) of asphalt concrete pavements under different temperatures and loading courses. Also, finite element (FE) analysis has been conducted to predict the test results. Test section for APT is the same as one of test sections at Korea Expressway Corporation test road and is subjected to a constant moving dual tire wheel load of APT at three different temperatures: 30, 40,
. The moving wheel is applied at different loading courses within a 75cm wide wheel path to account for traffic wandering. Also, the effect of wandering on permanent deformation development is investigated numerically with three wandering schemes. In this study, ABAQUS is adopted to model APT pavement section with plain stain elements and creep strain rate model is used to take into account viscoplastic stain of asphalt concrete mixtures, and elastic layer properties are back-calculated from FWD measurements. Plus, the effect of boundary condition and subgrade on FE permanent deformation predictions is investigated. A full FE model that accounted for subgrade provided more realistic rut depth predictions, indicating subgrade has contributed to surface rutting.
Development of Ubiquitous Median Barrier System in the Highway

A median barrier in the road is to separate driver and passenger the traffic flow in the 4-line over highway. In order to keep thee safety of and minimize the traffic jam in the traffic accidents, the ubiquitous intelligent median barrier system is proposed in this paper. This system is required to develop the sensor node fields in the median barrier, which detects the traffic accident using vibration sensors and wireless communication network. Free space test to sensing & receiving radio frequency, verification of middleware to report and countermeasure the accident intelligently to police and hospital are carried out.
A Study on the Characteristics of Interface Space through Architecture Surface

In modern society the architecture surface involves a lot of meaning other than having simple physical functions. The interface space generated by the surface characteristics among those becomes to have many significances in modern society, and plays a role of symbolic space of a city. The interface space is threshold space that connects two separate spaces and revitalize its states. Nowadays, people have many chances to communicate each other through the interface space and also settle urban problems caused by spacial and functional discontinuity through the interface space. However, the interface space in Korea could not be built up well due to rapid growth of cities, and a lot of different natures in space and viewpoint have been appeared accordingly, which gives rise to a problem of the discontinuity of urban spaces. Therefore, this study aims at the research on the characteristics of interface space through architecture surface composing the major factor of a city; architecture integument in Nam-po Dong, Jung Gu, Busan City as the object of the study.
The Dynamic Interaction Analysis of Actively Controlled Maglev and Guideway Bridge Systems

The purpose of the present study is to examine the dynamic interaction characteristics between moving maglev vehicle and guideway bridge system. For this purpose, the dynamic governing equation of 2-dof maglev vehicle using optimal feedback control scheme of LQG was derived with or without consideration of the dynamic interaction between vehicle and guideway bridge system. From the parametric study, it was found that the dynamic interaction effect between bridge and vehicle was large in case of neglecting the railway roughness effect. But if the railway roughness effect was considered, it was observed two analysis results with or without consideration of the dynamic interaction did not show big difference. As a conclusion, it is required to take into account the dynamic interaction effect of bridge and maglev vehicle and the railway roughness for precise evaluation of runnability of maglev vehicle and impact factor of guideway.
Development of the LBS-based Water Service Information Service System

Even though Korea's national project - NGIS(National Geographic Information System) has been built since 1995 and the GIS database for underground facilities has also been built, not so many systems are utilizing those databases currently. Also, the waterworks GIS developed and operated by K-Water is not used effectively in supporting field works. In order to manage and operate the waterworks pipelines effectively, systematic supporting strategy must be established by adopting the state-of-the-art technology. In this research, a ubiquitous-based strategy for managing waterworks facilities is proposed to increase the usability of the existing related databases and to ensure the systematic way of distributing information. The current status of the existing waterworks GIS and GIS database were analyzed to achieve the goal. By studying the state-of-the-art technology, we found that importing the LBS technology to the databases is necessary. The results of these efforts are exclusive waterworks-mobile-terminals and LBS system supporting them. Furthermore, the applicability of the ubiquitous technology to waterworks has been examined to realize the real-time waterworks management.
Accuracy Analysis of Close-Range Digital Photogrammetry for Measuring Displacement about Loading to Structure

This paper describes the result of study on measurement of displacement of structure by means of non-contacting method, close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera. To apply close-range digital photogrammetry to displacement measurement of structure, correction of lens distortion that interferes geometrical analysis has been carried out and then measuring displacement was performed on load regulated-rahmen. For enhanced applicability of displacement measurement, MIDAS which is a structural analysis program was used for modeling and the result was taken from comparative analysis. As a result of the study, it is showed that close-range digital photogrammetry could supplement several weaknesses of LVDT and cable displacement meter and, especially, economy in the perspective of measuring time could be realized. Close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera can be applied to the area where requires visual analysis such as 3D modeling of structure, profile replication of measurement of structure as well as measurement of displacement of structure.
3D Tunnel Shape Fitting by Means of Laser Scanned Point Cloud

In lieu of section profile data, a fitting of the bored tunnel shape is more significant confirmation for maintenance of a tunnel. Before the permit on the completion of a tunnel, deformation of the completed tunnel with respect to the design model are considered. And deformation can be produced at continuously along the entire of the tunnel section. This study firstly includes an analysis of algebraic approach and test it with an observed field data. And then a number of methods, line search method, genetic algorithm, and pattern search methods, are compared with the 3D tunnel shape fitting. Algebraic methods can solve a simple circular cylinder type as like a railway tunnel. However, a more complex model (compound circular curve and non circular) as like a highway tunnel has to be solved with soft computing tools in the cause of conditional constraints. The genetic algorithm and pattern search methods are computationally more intensive, but they are more flexible at a complex condition. The line search method is fastest, but it needs a narrow bounds of the initial values.
