Carbon Reduction Effect of Traffic Operational Methods Itemized in National Project for Advanced Traffic Operation and Management

The presidential council on national competitiveness and the national police agency have initiated a national project to refresh the road traffic control and operation systems to increase operational efficiency at signalized intersections. It would reduce the number of stops and delay of vehicles at intersections and thus mitigate congestion and emission. Although significant reduction of carbon is expected as a consequential result, such effects has yet been studied since traffic operation was behind of interest in the field of green transportation where planning was mainly involved. This paper delivers the macroscopic effects of carbon reduction of the selected items of the national project: the ones managed by the police agency. The results showed that the studied items yield significant reduction of carbon: pedestrian push button operation, flashing signal operation, progression, lagging left turns, permitted left turn, and actuated left-turn operation would reduce 12.31%, 3.27%, 2.44%, 0.97%, 0.81%, and 0.72% of the total amount of carbon emitted a year in a whole transportation sector, respectively.
A Spatial Analysis about Arrival Delay and Dispatch Distribution of the 119 Rescue-Aid Service utilizing GIS - Gyeongsangbuk-Do Case Study -

The 119 emergency rescue-aid service operated by Korean government is a very valuable in a society and its importance is growing in Korea as an aging society. Especially, the emergency vehicle's arrival time to accidents place is an important variable which affects initial emergency measure for patients and it depends on the road network attributes, such as emergency service station's location, accessibility to accidents place and so on. This study aims to analysis the emergency vehicles' arrival delay and the dispatch station in the viewpoint of efficiency utilizing the real rescue-aid activity data. We analyzed the dispatch distribution of the emergency rescue-aid service at first. And we analyzed high accident rate locations not involved in the fixed radius of rescue-aid service stations and display GIS map showing regions have been delayed. The input data of the road network speed is based on the KTDB (Korea Transportation Database) and historical rescue-aid data is from Gyeongsangbuk-do's fire service headquarters.
A Study on the Effect of Adverse Weather Conditions on Public Transportation Mode Choice

Busan Metropolitan City government has been implementing the local Bus Quasi-Public Operating policy since 2007. As a result of the policy, financial burden to cover financial deficit has become a big social issue. For successful settlement of the policy, the government should be able to gradually cut off the financial support for the deficit by continuously increasing the bus demand, which can be accomplished by providing more convenient bus services. The weather conditions that affect the public transportation demand include rain, fog and snow. They affect the mode choice for public transportation use, which in turn results in decrease in bus demand. In short, the adverse weather conditions result in significant profit loss of bus transportation, and consequently it financially burdens the City of Busan. In this research, the pattern of travelers' use of transportation modes given various weather conditions was analyzed. In addition, the reasons why people transfer from one to other transportation modes were analyzed by conducting a field survey, and policy implications on desirable public transportation facilities and transfer system were discussed.
An Evaluation of Resistances in Porous Asphalt Concrete Mixtures due to Repeated Cyclic Freeze-Thawing

More and more pavements are suffering from damage these days due to the below-zero winter temperatures and frequent snowfalls. From this research, the freeze-thawing mechanisms of pavements will be observed, and the freeze-thawing resistance of porous asphalt concrete mixture is to be evaluated according to various assessment methods. The investigation was conducted through applying rigid and flexible pavements to freeze-thawing resistance experiments, which include various experiments such as deformation rate measurements, Lottman tests, repeated cyclic freeze-thawing experiments, stripping resistance tests and so on. Test results revealed that the porous asphalt concrete had less deformations according to temperatures compared to dense-graded asphalt concrete due to the 20% void gap. In addition, according to the freeze-thawing repetition experiments which are effected by moisture, the porous asphalt concrete mixture showed superior resistance to repeated cyclic freeze-thawing compared to other asphalt concrete mixtures due to the drainage and the voids within the specimen.
Estimation of Cycle Time for Construction Process of NATM Tunnel by using RFID Technology

Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) technology, which replace BAR CODE technology that has been widely utilizing in the field of the manufacturing industry for a long time, has been proven in the whole industries including national defense, transportation, and construction as well as manufacturing industry. Recently, with this trend, researches for adapting the RFID technology have been attempting continually centering on the architectural project in the construction industry. However, those researches are mainly focusing on the experimental utilization such as simple activity and material management. To solve these issues, this study demonstrated methodologies for adapting the RFID technology by the construction steps aiming to analyze cycle time of five types of construction process to the NATM method of tunneling work. Besides, the application of RFID technology in civil engineering work was verified by demonstrating the suggested methodology to actual sites. Therefore, it is expected that the suggested methodology will be utilized for predicting the progress rate and establishing of follow-up work plans, and the site applicability of the RFID technology will be expanded to the civil engineering projects.
An Efficient Application of XML Schema Matching Technique to Structural Calculation Document of Bridge

An efficient application method of XML schema matching technique to the document structure of structural calculation document (SCD) of bridge is proposed. With 30 case studies, a parametric study on weightings of name, sibling, child, and parent elements of XML scheme component that are used in the similarity measure of XML schema matching technique has been performed, and suitable weighting to analyze document structure of SCD is suggested. A simplified formula for quantification of similarity is also introduced to reduce computation time in huge scale document structure of SCDs. Numerical experiments show that the suggested method can increase the accuracy of XML schema matching by 10% with suitable weighting parameters, and can maintain almost the same accuracy without weighting parameters compared to previous studies. In addition, computation time can be reduced dramatically when the proposed simplified formula for the quantification of similarity is used. In the numerical experiments of testing 20 practical SCDs of bridges, the suggested method is superior to previous studies in the accuracy of analyzing document structure and 4 to 460 times faster than the previous results in computation time.
A Study on the Influence Factors of Land Value by Urban Spatial Constitution

The purpose of this study is to draw the development direction of subway adjacent area by distance through an analysis on influence factors of land value by urban spatial constitution. The method of this study is analyzing influence factors of land value by the distance of subway adjacent area by using regression analysis method with urban spatial constitution variables from advanced research and drew the difference and extent of land value influence factors by distance of subway adjacent area. The result of analyzed the influence factors of land value by distance to draw the purpose of this study, which is the direction of development by distance of subway adjacent area, the connected area has shown the development direction as high density development centrally on commercial and improvement of accessibility and decrepit status, the directly influence area shows as complexity with high density centrally on commercial and business and lastly, the in directly influence area has shown the development direction as complexity of residential and commercial, improvement of accessibility and decrepit status. This study has used land value as a dependent variable to verify the speculation of this study based on the contents, the results of the analyze and the critical points of precedent studies to draw the development direction of subway adjacent influence area by using autonomous variables from advanced research. Upon this, drew a conclusion of this study as analyze of influence factors of land value could be a reference material for development of subway adjacent area.
Development of Finance Sharing Criteria for Metropolitan BRT Infrastructure

Metropolitan transport demand has increased in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) due to the expansion of its role and land use. Various public transport modes have to be supplied to relieve road congestions for the convenience of users. During the constructions of theses infrastructures some conflicts between the central government and local governments arise for sharing financial resources. In this study finance sharing criteria is developed for the metropolitan BRT, transfer facility, and public garages. Finally, a case study has been done for the metropolitan BRT between Cheongra and Hwagok area in SMA.
An Accuracy Evaluation of Algorithm for Shoreline Change by using RTK-GPS

This present research was carried out by dividing two parts; field surveying and data processing, in order to analyze changed patterns of a shoreline. Firstly, the shoreline information measured by the precise GPS positioning during long duration was collected. Secondly, the algorithm for detecting an auto boundary with regards to the changed shoreline with multi-image data was developed. Then, a comparative research was conducted. Haeundae beach which is one of the most famous ones in Korea was selected as a test site. RTK-GPS surveying had been performed overall eight times from September 2005 to September 2009. The filed test by aerial Lidar was conducted twice on December 2006 and March 2009 respectively. As a result estimated from both sensors, there is a slight difference. The average length of shoreline analyzed by RTK-GPS is approximately 1,364.6 m, while one from aerial Lidar is about 1,402.5 m. In this investigation, the specific algorithm for detecting the shoreline detection was developed by Visual C++ MFC (Microsoft Foundation Class). The analysis result estimated by aerial photo and satellite image was 1,391.0 m. The level of reliability was 98.1% for auto boundary detection when it compared with real surveying data.
A Study on RFM Based Stereo Radargrammetry Using TerraSAR-X Datasets

The RFM (Rational Function Model), as an alternative to physical sensor models has been widely used for photogrammetric processing of high resolution optical satellite imagery. However, the application of RF modeling to the SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is very limited. In this paper, stereo radargrammetric processing of TerraSAR-X stereo pairs with RFM is implemented and analyzed. The investigation has shown that the accuracy of TerraSAR-X DSM is similar to that of the commercial S/W product. Finally, it is demonstrated that RFM is effective and feasible in the application to the radargrammetric SAR image processing.
