Establishment of Traffic Management Strategies Based on AHP

The purpose of weighting traffic management strategies is to reach strategic goal through intended and balanced implementations. The AHP is commonly used technique to derive perspective and strategic goals, and to give priorities to them in a organization. In this study, perspective and strategic goals are derived through surveys and interviews with staffs of a traffic management agency. And then, priority of perspective and strategic goals is performed through the AHP. In this study, three things were identified. Firstly, it was found weighting perspectives such as values for customers, future, activity, and performances were in sequence performed. The value for customers were ranked the first. Secondly, it was found increasing of customer- centric thinking and values of eco- friendly system are the highest weighting in strategic goal. Third, it was found increasing of customer-centric thinking is the most important in headquarters and regional headquarter. But, Values of eco-friendly system is ranked as the most important in opinion of branch office's staffs. It was also identified that depending on the working places, such as headquater and branch offices, the response differs.
A Study on the Developmental Directions of Transfer Stations with Traffic Cards Data - Focused on Daegu City -

Increasing the mode transfer volume between public transportation modes has known to be necessary for efficiency improvement of public transportation system operation and it is also found to be important to have relevant transfer point selection with reflection of current travel pattern. This study is in regards to providing a selection guideline for the location of transfer point between public transport modes. This case study has been carried out for Daegu Metropolitan City especially for public transportation users behaviour by analysis of daily usage of transportation card to identify the transfer travel pattern. A cluster analysis was applied to categorize the pattern of transfer stop which induces many users and a discriminant analysis also utilized for grouping the stops by number of transfer trip. This research produces the estimation result of transfer volume for urban railway system no.3 in Daegu City which is currently under construction. In addition, the locations of transfer center has also been proposed.
A Study on the Traffic Accident Characteristics Analysis in Expressway Longitudinal Tunnel using a Logit Model

Longitudinal tunnels are defined as tunnels with length of over 1km. Because of Korea's topographical conditions and as safety measures for linear design, many tunnels are inevitably being constructed in Korea. The number of longitudinal tunnels constructed on expressways amounted to 104 as of the end of 2010 with a total length of 192km. Given the increasing demand for tunnels and the increasing length of tunnels, a safety evaluation of longitudinal tunnels needs to be conducted. As such, this study selected design elements, transportation environment and delineation system as elements to check and tried to determine factors influencing road crashes. For this, tunnels have been classified based on history of crashes; ones with crashes and ones without crashes and statistically meaningful explanatory variables were selected. By using these variables, a logit model was development in order to better grasp the factors that directly and strongly influence crashes. The result, related to crashes as well as the analysis were utility tunnel interior materials of driving lane and passing lane, which are related to driver's visibility, lateral width widening to consolidate space in a tunnel, and annual average daily traffic (AADT) per lane. These results may be used in the future as analysis indicators when drawing up plans to prevent crashes in longitudinal tunnels.
A Study on Analysis Spatial Structure of Industry by Using the Freight O/D - Focused on Daegu Metropolitan City

The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial structure of Mega-Economic Region particularly in Daegu using Freight Origin-Destination (O/D) Data which comes from KTDB. To diagnose the appropriate separation of Regions, the mean of three standardized indices was calculated. The indicates measured are Freight Occupancy Ratio (FOR), Freight Dependancy Ratio (FDR), Scale Parameter (SP), respectively. The result of analysis showed that FOR FDR SP indicators gave effective explanation about characteristic of Regions depending on Freight moving patterns. Especially, Gyeongsan and Gumi had high correlation Regions with FOR FDR indicator. Also, the major industries of Daegu Metropolitan based on the SP indicator are Chemical and Metal machinery industry.
A Study of Mode Choice Analysis of Blind Spot Areas for Public Transportation in Four Metropolitan Cities

This study selected blind spot areas for public transportation in four metropolitan cities including Busan, Daegue, Gwangju, and Daejeon. Then this study developed a nested logit model and analyzed the changes of mode choice behaviors after adopting rapid transit system using stated preference(SP) survey. As the study results, blind spot areas have more potential public transportation demand and tendency to shift to public transportation from autos than built-up areas. This study results can be utilized to evaluate demand changes for new rapid transit system in a circular expressway and an arterial highway connecting CBD and surrounding areas. The study results also can be utilized to analyze the potential public transportation demand in the surrounding areas.
A Study on Analysis of Operating Cost Properties to Demand Responsive Transport System in Rural Areas

Recently, improving public transport service at disabled people has emerged as a social issue in rural areas. By improving expensive and inefficient existing operating system, the rural bus have to change a personalized service. Under these circumstances, government and local governments are promoting the introduction of DRT(Demand response transport). DRT system is intended to promote the user's convenience. But, until now, in-depth research on the operating costs for the introduction of DRT is not well known. This study aims to look at changes in number of vehicle and operating costs before and after introduction of DRT. The results are as follows. Even though introducing DRT, total number of vehicles increases because it does not reduce the existing number of vehicles. And this study estimated to about 5 to 12 percent of the increase in the operating cost comparing before introduction of DRT. Therefore, The introduction of DRT in rural areas is a need to set the exact purpose as promote transportation convenience or cost efficiency.
An Evaluation of Epoxy Asphalt Mixtures for Long-Span Steel Bridge Deck

The main objective of the research is to evaluate the laboratory performances of epoxy asphalt mixtures for long-span steel bridge decks. The aggregate gradations were recommended for field applications. The laboratory performance test results showed that the durability of epoxy asphalt mixtures was more noticeable than that of conventional ones. The structural analysis was conducted using resilient modulus and bond-shear test results. The analysis results revealed that just 9% out of total bond-shear stress was enough for the entire required bond-shear stress in the pavement system. The tensile stresses in the bridge decks were within limits compared to the laboratory test results from the Nanjing Grand Bridge in China. As a result, the laboratory performances of the epoxy asphalt mixtures for long-span steel bridge decks were better than those of conventional asphalt mixtures. However, the laboratory performance tests of epoxy asphalt mixtures for long-span steel bridge decks should be conducted precisely since the strengths of the mixtures are sensitive to the temperatures and curing times.
Correction of Latent Errors in Pavement Deterioration Data using Statistical Methods

Successful implementation of infrastructure asset management system can be started with rich and reliable data. However, measurement errors in the data have always existed in the real world caused for many unknown reasons. It disturbs maintenance activities of agencies, and makes negative effects to reliability of research results on forecasting deterioration process and life cycle cost. Above all, it makes a contradiction that road agencies cannot believe their inspection data surveyed by their hands. It is particularly serious in the road pavement management field. Although road agencies are well recognized the fact, inspecting without measurement error would be a great challenge. Considering the facts, this paper aimed to suggest statistical error processing methods to correct latent error included in pavement surface inspection data. As alternatives, this paper suggested two methods based on probability distribution to consider structure of error and reliability of the data. The suggested methods were empirically tested by using pavement inspection data from Korean National Highway. As the result, this paper confirmed that conventional error processing that just removes only visible errors is not enough to cover uncertainty in pavement deterioration process. The suggested methods would be useful for improving reliability of analysis results required for road infrastructure asset management.
A Development of Strength Prediction Model of Epoxy Asphalt Concrete for Traffic Opening

It is important to decide traffic opening time for construction plan of epoxy asphalt pavement. For this purpose, strength prediction model of epoxy asphalt concrete is required. In this study, Marshall stability was measured according to temperature and time for making strength properties equation. Strength prediction model was developed using chemical kinetics considering temperature variation. The traffic opening time of epoxy asphalt pavement on bridge deck has been predicted using the developed model. The prediction and actual traffic opening times were different by 17-days, because weathers of year 2009-2011 used in prediction model were different from weather of year 2012. When the prediction model used the actually measured temperatures of pavement, the difference between real opening time and prediction opening time was two days. The correlation analysis result between measured strength and prediction strength revealed that the
using accurate temperature of pavement was 0.95. An improved precise prediction result is to be obtained if the prediction model uses accurate temperature data of pavement.
A Case Study and Development of Computing System of Construction Waste for an Apartment by Using the Estimating Waste Units

The importance of demolition industry is becoming lager because of reusing and recycling of construction waste in current trend to pursue for sustainable development. As considering situation of the domestic housing construction and existing house, a scale of demolition industry is expecting to be increased continually. Therefore, for sustainable development is needed forecasting and managing rightly demolition waste to be producted at demolition phase. But, The development of model for estimating demolition waste is not sufficient in the country, also, the development of computer system for managing it rightly has not yet been created. In this study developed the estimating waste units for estimating demolition waste of an apartment and a house. A regression model for quantifying demolition waste easily is developed to do simulation again after making the estimating waste units through analyzing draws. This model is developed as a computer system for increasing application and then verified the reliability through field application. this regression model can quantify a sort of 22 demolition waste easily based on the size of the floor area and a number of units. This system is expected to quantify demolition waste easily which is producted during redevelopment and remodeling of existing house.
Experimental Study on Reduced Amount of Rebound in Wet Process Shotcrete Works by Upon Accelerator Contents

The aim of shotcrete is to increase the bearing capacity and to protect the excavated surface from erosion by preventing falling of rock mass. Shotcreting method is divided into two types as dry process and wet process. Since 1997, wet process method has been used more frequently than dry process method in field works. The failure to bond, so called rebound, occurs in many case during shotcrete works. The excess amount of rebound has a significant effect on the total construction cost. For example, material and craft-man cost increases, the shooting time delays due to deceleration of work execution stage, work efficiency of craft-man decreases and additional cost to remove the muck generates. In this study, therefore, the experimental analysis of rebound amount and strength was conducted by analyzing the actual construction data for wet process type of shotcreting method upon accelerator contents. Also, the effective and rational method was suggested, which can be actually implemented in the Korea construction sites.
Effectiveness Analysis of Transforming Many-Legs Type Intersection into Roundabout in Jeju

Roundabout is an intersection that allows vehicles to pass through the intersection by circulating the circular traffic island at the center of the intersection. In this study, a comparative analysis was conducted on roundabout at five locations in order to deduce the operational result and financial effect of roundabout and signal intersection. As for the operational result, it was found that roundabout showed improvement effect in the average delay per vehicle compared to that of signal intersection by minimum of 65.6% and maximum of 91.77%. it was found that roundabout showed financial cost-saving effect in the traffic congestion cost compared to that of signal operation by minimum of 58.59% and maximum of 81.69% per year. It can be known from these analysis results that roundabout has significant operational effects under certain amount of traffic volume by allowing vehicles to pass through the intersection in a continuous way without much waiting time and stoppage from signal control.
Analysis of Excavation Speed and Direct Construction Cost Based on the Operating Productivities of TBM Method Site

This research collected work drilling report of TBM method site developed by WRITH company to TBM equipment company in Germany and analyzed work operating productivity. Based Oil the data analyzed TBM operating productivity, This research derived and presented excavation speed (m/day) by TBM diameter (3.0m, 3.5m, 3.8m) and rock. Also, based on the excavation speed (m/day) by TBM diameter, This research estimated a day direct construction cost and total direct construction costs by applying a direct construction cost which spent on per 1m. When we perform a similar geological construction in the future, excavation speed and direct construction cost which were derived by TBM diameter and rock is thinking the effective utilization data to estimate construction cost and plan schedule management before the start of construction.
A Study on Analysis of Productive Construction Project and Influential Elements for Public Owner's Perspective - Focused on Highway Construction -

The productivity management of highway construction is required to innovate the efficiency of investment The productivity management of highway construction is required to innovate the efficiency of investment cost for newly constructed projects and to improve the quality of these projects, as the maintenance and management expenses are steadily increasing for existing highways under operation. However, clear criteria, methods or requirements to measure the productivity and performance in the construction of highways have not been properly established yet. This study defined 5 major elements of the productive projects in terms of construction management which is one of major tasks of the owner. There were the 43 influential elements significantly affecting on the productivity and these elements were categorized into the hierarchical structure which was composed of 3 levels. Also, this study conducted a survey for Korea Expressway Corporation who is the largest owner in Korea's highway construction. As a result, major project performance indicators, which should be addressed for management, to execute the projects successfully, are presented through understanding the extent of the affection of productivity elements on the elements of project performance to attain the productive projects and through understanding the extent of demand to be improved.
Analysis of Distribution and Highly Density Area Pattern of One-Person Household : Pusan Metropolitan's Case

The aim of this study is to analyze tthe pattern of compacted area and the distribution characteristics in one-person household. Through ArcGis, we collect the basic data and classify the compact area in accordance with the pattern employing Ward method out of cluster analysis. The main results are found as follows; First, the station sphere type is located around Seomyun and Nampo-dong, which are the main CBD( Central Business District) This type must be essentially considered in residential plan for one-person household location. Second, the district oriented type is located around the subway and it has relatively better residential facilities and environments. Third, it is found that the younger worker including students resided in one room and villa in the type around university. Forth, the foreign workers and domestic workers in small and medium factory resided in the factory centered type which is far from the station sphere. Lastly, it is dormitory type which is isolated from the CBD, and insteadly amenable and well natural environment area, but students and workers in this area where there are lacking life-related facilities and aside from accessibilities feel uncomfortable.
The Fatigue Life Evaluation of Rail on the Concrete Track of High Speed Railway by Analysis of the Vehicle/Track Interaction

The demand of CWR is rapidly increasing because of the adaptation of concrete track, the need for rapid and comfortable ride, and the reduction of maintenance cost. Because of short applying period of the concrete track, there is not a case of CWR fracture in Korea caused by repeated load of the train, which makes it difficult to calculate replacement period of rail based on rail fatigue life using an actual field data. This study thus inspected the bending stress at rail bottom through analyzing the vehicle/track interaction, performed multiple regression analysis on the data, deducted the bending stress prediction equations by the speed and the surface irregularity. Finally, the fatigue life of CWR on the concrete track was predicted based on the prediction equations for bending stress at rail bottom.
A Study on Improvement of Demand Estimation in Urban Railway through Segmentations of Station Influence Areas

Accurate demand estimating process in the construction of urban railway is very important, and precise validation is required. Existing model formula in the 4 phase model is limited in the estimation of the demand the administrative boundary-based zone system reflects no spatial railway demand characteristics around railway stations. The purpose of this study is improving the accuracy of urban rail demand estimation through segmentations of station influence areas and modal split characteristics within the areas. According to the case analysis, it is possible to set up the ststion influence area with a radius of 500m in the urban region and 1,000m in the suburban. And eastablishing proper segmentations of the ststion influence area shows more accurate results to the real demand of railway stations.
High Speed Rail Station Distric Using Entropy Model Study to Estimate the Trip Distribution
