Thermal Performance Evaluation Monitoring Study of Transparent Insulation Wall System

Various efforts to combine new high-tech materials with solar system have been progressed nowadays in order to improve the performance of the existing passive solar system. TIM(Transparent Insulation Material) replacing the conventional outer building envelope glazing as well as the wall is good example for this trend. TI integrated wall is a thermal mass wall with a special shaped TIM instead of using typical envelope materials The tested TIM type is a small(diameter 4mm and thickness 50mm) capillary tube of Okalux model and cement brick(density 1500kg/m3). The purpose of this study was to analyze the thermal performance through the actual measurements performed in a test cell. This study was carried out to justify the following issues. 1) the impact of Tl-wall over the temperature variations 2) the impact of mass wall surface absorptance over the transient thermal behavior and 3) the impact of thermal mass wall thickness over the temperature variations. Finally, as results indicated that the peak time of room temperature was shifted about one hour early when absorptance of thermal mass wall changed from 60% to 95% for the 190mm thickness thermal mass wall test case. the temperature difference of both surfaces of thermal mass wall surface showed about
during a day of March for the 380mm thickness thermal mass wall case. However, the thermal mass wall was over-heated by outside temperature and solar radiation in a day of May the temperature difference of both surfaces of thermal mass wall surface was indicated
and inside temperature was observed more than average 22C.
A Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics in the Air Side of Louvered Fin Heat Exchanger

For the study of an effect that fin thickness and shape of heat exchanger have on the elevation of heat transfer efficiency, we make models of plate fin type heat exchanger and louvered fin type heat exchanger which was given a transformation of fin thickness in plate f)n type heat exchanger and louvered fin type heat exchanger which are often used now. And the effect of fin thickness on pressure drop and characteristics of heat transfer was experimented and analysed when air velocity and temperature of plate heating was a variable. The results of experiment shows below. Pressure drop shows larger in louvered fin type exchanger than in plate fin type exchanger, size of pressure drop shows like this order that fin thickness is 0.3mm, 0.2mm, 0.1mm. Mean heat transfer coefficient shows higher in louvered fin type exchanger than in plate fin type exchanger, size of mean heat transfer coefficient by fin thickness shows same in both case in louvered fin type heat exchanger and plate fin type exchanger like this order that fin thickness is 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.3mm.
A Survey of the Recognition of Photovoltaic System for Building Application

This study aims to investigate and analyze the overall recognition of the photovoltaic system for the application of BIPV(Building Integrated Photovoltaic) in Korea. For this purpose, a survey was carried on through questionnaires answered by 6 groups of experts such as construction engineers, registered architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, university or college professors, and others who are ranked high in their companies or universities or colleges and who mostly seem to be eager to participate in the development of the PV system and to make a business of the system. The results of the survey are as follows: 1. About 95% of those experts who answered the questionnaire have known about renewable energy, and 93% of them are interested in solar energy as alternative energy 2. Host experts have a lot of information on the solar energy system, but have scanty information on the PV system. 3. The experts in the educational and research field have researched for the reasonable period of the participation in the development of the PV system and the period of making a business of the system. They judge that companies in the mechanical and electrical field will participate in the development of the PV system and will make a business of the system in 5 years. 4. The experts have thought that the PV system is designed not for economy but for the environment of the earth and that PV system technology in Korea is much lower than that in the advanced countries. 5. The experts hesitate to participate in the development of the PV system and to make a business of the system because they have little confidence in the economy of the PV system now and because they have thought that they will bear a great financial burden of construction cost 6. The experts judge that it is most desirable to apply the PV system to the rooftops of buildings. And they are greatly interested in the BIPV.
A Study on Heat Storage System Using Calcined Dolomite - Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer in Calcined Dolomite Dehydration Packed Bed -

To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the material and heat transfer rate in the cylindrical bed reactor packed with Calcined Dolomite. Our results from the studies are as follows ; 1 The time needed to complete dehydration reaction at the wall side of the cylindrical reactor(r/rL=0.5) was shorter than that of the center(r/rL=0.0) as much as 12%. 2. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer rate in the packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction in the cylindrical reactor. The solution reads rate of reaction in the packed bed reactor depends on the temperature and concentration of reactants. These results read the supplied heat transfers from the wall side of the cylinder to the center, dehydration reaction begins at the inner side of the wall of the cylindrical reactor and the dehydration reaction proceeds from the wall side to center of cylinder.
An Assessment of WAsP Prediction in a Complex Terrain

In order to test the predictability of the wind resource assessment computer code in our country a field experiment and prediction by WAsP has been compared. A field experiment has been performed in Songdang province, Jeju island, composed of sea, inland flat terrain, a high and a low slope craters. For this experiment, four meteorological towers have been installed at seashores, inland flat and on a crater. Wind resource at one site is predicted by WAsF with the meteorological data at the other three sites. The comparisons show that the WAsP preditions give better agreement with experimental data by adjusting the roughness descriptions.
A Comparative Evaluation of Daylighting Performance Software : Lumen-Micro, Adeline and Lightscape

Three of the leading computer daylighting simulation programs are compared with physical modeling techniques as a means of predicting daylighting performance of interior spaces. Lumen-Micro, Adeline and Lightscape are compared with physical model experiments under clear sky conditions. The comparative evaluations are conducted on analysis of daylight illuminance ratio(%) depending on model types. The estimated average errors are analyzed on 9.4% in Lumen-Micro, 6.3% in Adeline and 3.4% in Lightscape. Therefore, it is proved that three programs are useful for evaluating daylighting performance in our clear sky condition.
A Study on the Evaluation Method of Green Remodeling Considering LCA and LCC

This study aims to presents Evaluation Method of Green Remodeling that analyze the value of environment through expense, using the method of life cycle cost and life cycle assessment simultaneously. The results of this study are summarized as follows. Evaluation Model developed in this study can convert economical value of environment into cost by integrating. In addition, the model can apply as a useful tool to estimation of economical design alternative as well as quantification of environmental loads and costs. Evaluation Model presented In this study observe energy consumption and the environmental load emission with qualification, it can forecast effect of environmental cost that cost estimation is expected to be added to energy cost rate by being possible. Synthetically, when Estimation Model and computer program that developed in this study is applies to the construction industry; reasonable management of environmental load is convenient at each step of Green Remodeling. In addition, at preliminary design phase, practical use may be possible by reasonable yardstick about various alternatives and improvement of design alternatives likewise by grasping environmental effect.
