A Study on the Flow characteristics of Wells Turbine for Wave Power Conversion by Various Flap Shape

A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of airfoil on the optimum flap height using NACA0015 Wells turbine. The five double flaps which have 0.5% difference were selected. A Navier-Stokes code, CFX-TASCflow, was used to calculate the flow field of the Wells turbine. The basic feature of the Wells turbine is that even though the cyclic airflow produces oscillating axial forces on the airfoil blades, the tangential force on the rotor is always in the same direction. Geometry used to define the three dimension numerical grid is based upon that of an experimental test rig. This paper tries to disign the double flap of Wells turbine with the numerical analysis.
A Study on the Thermodynamic Cycle of OTEC system

In this paper, the thermodynamic performance of OTEC cycle was examined. Computer simulation programs were developed for simple Rankine cycle, regenerative Rankine cycle, Kalina cycle, open cycle and hybrid cycle. For the simple Rankine cycle, the results show that newly developed fluids such as R410A and R32 that do not cause stratospheric ozone layer depletion perform as well as R22 and ammonia. Also, simple Rankine cycle OTEC power plant can practically generate electricity when the difference in warm and cold sea water inlet temperatures are greater than

The regenerative Rankine cycle showed a 1.5 to 2% increase in energy efficiency compared to the simple Rankine cycle while the Kalina cycle employing ammonia/water mixture showed a 2-to-3% increase in energy efficiency, and the overall cycle efficiencies of hybrid cycle and open cycle were 3.35% and 4.86%, respectively.
A Experimental Study of the Kinetic Characteristics of Methane Hydrate

Methane hydrate, non-polluting new energy resource, satisfies requirement and considered as a precious resource that can prevent the global warming. Fortunately, there are abundant resources of methane hydrate distribute in the earth widely. Therefore, developing the techniques that can utilize these gases effectively is highly desired. The work in this paper here is to develop a skill which can transport and store methane hydrate. As a first step, the equilibrium experiment was carried out by increasing temperatures in the cell at fixed pressures. The influence of gas consumption rates under variable degree of subcooling, stirring and water injection has been investigated formation to clarify kinetic characteristics of the hydrate. The results of present investigation showed that the enhancements of the hydrate formation in terms of the gas/water ratio are closely related to operational pressure, temperature, degrees of subcooling, and water injection.
A Study on Development of a Forecasting Model of Wind Power Generation for Walryong Site

In this paper, a forecasting model of wind speed at Walryong Site, Jeju Island is presented, which has been developed and evaluated as a first step toward establishing Korea Forecasting Model of Wind Power Generation. The forecasting model is constructed based on neural network and is trained with wind speed data observed at Cosan Weather Station located near by Walryong Site. Due to short period of measurements at Walryong Site for training statistical model Gosan Weather Station's long-term data are substituted and then transplanted to Walryong Site by using Measure-Correlate-Predict technique. One to three-hour advance forecasting of wind speed show good agreements with the monitoring data of Walryong site with the correlation factors 0.96 and 0.88, respectively.
The Performance Assessment Study of Solar Energy Cogeneration panel for Building Integrated System

Solar Thermal-Electric Integrated system can be used to generate heat and electricity simultaneously and can improve indoor all qualify. So, it can save heating and electricity cost as it operates at relatively lower temperatures. In this study, one pv module was fixed on a normal wall and a pv module was mounted on a solarwall. The Development of the Management System and GIS Based Information Strategy Planning for New Renewable Energy

New renewable energy information becomes one of the greatest issues all over the world because of serious environment problems and limited fossil resources. The new renewable energy source information system is treated seriously for efficient management and distribution as dealing with these energy problems. However, it is difficult to manage and utilize new renewable energy information because gathering and surveying information is progressed individually in each research field. Therefore this paper will establish ISP(Information Strategy Planning) and propose the basic management system based-on GIS to analyze new renewable energy such as solar energy, wind power, small hydro, biomass, geothermal etc. and build the integration management system. The proposed integration management system can provide spatial analysis using thematic map, data search, data import/export and interpolation about users' queries.
Voltage quality and Network Interconnection Standard Suitability in Jeju-Hangwon Wind Power Generation Farm

The number of wind generation installations are growing substantially in Jeju, Korea. Many of these installations are significant in size and directly connected to the distribution system. Utility grid interconnection standards for interconnecting non-utility distributed generation systems are essential to both power system company and generation company. These interconnection standards are important to utilities, customers, wind generation manufactures and nation. In this paper, it is investigated the voltage quality and the suitability of Jeju-Hangwon wind power generation farm by network interconnection technology standard.
Voltage and Transient State Analysis of Distribution Line connected to Wind Power Generation

The use of the wind energy resource is a rapidly growing area world-wide. The number of installed units is continuously increasing, and therefore, it is important to respect and to deal with the impact of wind power generation system. From the view of an electric grid utility, there is a major problem with the impact of the wind system on the voltage of the electric grid, to which a turbine is connected. In this paper, it is investigated the voltage impact and transient state analysis on distribution line, with which wind power generation system is connected. Connections of wind power system usually occur to voltage drop due to reactive power absorption and sometime result in higher than nominal voltage.
A Study on the Operating Characteristics for the Grid Interconnected PV System with BESS

Photovoltaic is an attractive technology to remote power applications, because of its reliability, low maintenance, and zero fuel requirements. In this paper represents residential PV system based on BESS(battery energy storage system) for managing the electric power, a pattern of daily operation considering the load characteristics of the house, the generation characteristics of PV power, and utility power leveling. For apply to control algorithm, we consider the load on monthly power consumption trend and daily usage pattern. As for the control of the proposed system, to increase the conversion efficiency of the PV power, bidirectional converter is used for MPPT and SPWM inverter. An experimental system is implemented, and some experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.
Analysis of the Daylight Condition on Facade Variation in Apartment Housing

As a factor of housing environment, right of light became a subject of discussion as a social issue. Cases on the right of light in properties have been increased. Also many interests in the scape of the city have been increased. This study aims to show the possibility of variation of the shape of the apartment buildings considering the right of light. Reflecting this recent situation, we are setting up the night illumination and constructing a building which acts as Land Mark like the Jong-Ro Tower. And In case of the apartment building, various forms are deviated from an existing standardized form and skyline Existing studies on the sunshine of apartment buildings have dealt with just a standardized apartment building form. So this study analyzed a recently increasing interest for right of light and the changes of sunshine environment of apartment buildings having various forms of skyline.
A Study on the Improvement of Ventilation Effectiveness in High-rise Apartment Buildings

The efficiency of ventilation system is one of the most important issues of designing ventilation in high-rise apartment buildings. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ventilation efficiency of ventilation system by experimental study using CO2 gas method. The results of this paper can be summarized as follows; (1) An appropriate ventilation including opening planning, mechanical and hybrid system are required. (2) The supply diffuser of ventilation system should be located near the contaminant source. (3) The return grill should be located along with supply diffuser for proper ventilation. and the return grill should be located near or right above the contaminant source. (4) However, the supply location right above the contaminant source has to be avoided. and the supply diffuser should be installed in module with return grill increase ventilation effectiveness.
Analysis of Thermal Performance of Ground-Source Heat Pump System

The purpose of this study is to present the simulation results and an overview of the performance assessment of the Ground-Source Heat Pump(GSHF) system. The calculation was performed for two design factors: the spacing between boreholes and the depth of the vertical ground heat exchangers. And the simulation was carried out using the thermal simulation code TRNSYS with new model of water to water heat pump developed by this study. As a result, it was anticipated that the yearly mean COPs of heat pump for heating and cooling are about 3.7 and 5.8 respectively and the heat pump can supply 100% of heating and cooling load all the year around.
An Experimental Study on the Solar Hot Water Heating System for the Dormitory of University

The Purpose of this work is to investigate a long-term thermal performance of active solar hot water heating system for the dormitory of university. For this, monitering system including temperature sensors, flow-meters was installed in this system. Measurement was continued for 13 months between April 1st 2004 and May 31th 2005. As results, hot water demand, daily and monthly hot water load distribution which are necessary for the solar system design were suggested. Also thermal stratification in solar buffer tank was observed in the point of increasement of system efficiency. The yearly solar fraction and system efficiency of this system are about 29.5% and 44.9% respectively.
