A Comparative Study on the Characteristics of Thermoacoustic Waves by the Stack Channel Number

The conversion of solar energy into acoustic waves is experimentally studied. Measurements were made on the Sound Pressure Level(SPL), onset time and the temperature gradient across the stack, with the Cell Per Square Inch(CPSI) of stack changed. A pyrex resonance tube is used with a honey-comb structure ceramic stack along with Ni-Cr and Cu wires. An AL1 acoustical analyzer was used to measure the SPL and frequency of acoustic waves whereas K-type thermocouples were hired to estimate temperature gradients. As a result, when the supply electric power was 25W, maximum SPLs of 104.1 dB, 109.4 dB and 112.8 dB were detected for the stacks of 200, 300 and 400 CPSI and their respective stack positions of 70mm, 60mm and 50mm from the closed end.
Analysis of Indoor Thermal Environment and Energy Consumption in Office Building Controlled by PMV

The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of air conditioned room controlled by PMV(Predicted Mean Vote)for energy consumption and human comfort in office building. The `EnergyPlus` was used for the evaluation of indoor thermal environment and energy consumption by the controls of room temperature and PMV. The result indicates that the PMV control could prove more profitable method for improvement of indoor thermal environment and energy conservation. Consequently, PMV control has a distinct advantage over most other control methods. An additional study is required to establish the various thermal comfort control for rooms on the basis of this work.
Determination of the Hybrid Energy Storage Capacity for Wind Farm Output Compensation

This paper presents the determination method of the hybrid energy storage capacity for compensating the output of wind power when disconnecting from the grid. In the wind power output compensation, a lot of charging and discharging time with lithium-ion battery will be deteriorated the life time. And also, this fluctuation will cause some problems of the power quality and power system stability. To solve these kind of problems, many researchers in the world have been studied with BESS(Battery Energy Storage System) in the wind farm. But, BESS has the limitation of its output during very short term period, this means that it is difficult to compensate the very short term output of wind farm. Using the EDLC (Electric Double Layer Capacitor), it is possible to solve the problem. Installing the battery system in the wind farm, it will be possible to decrease the total capacity of BESS consisting of HESS (Hybrid Energy Storage System). This paper shows simulation results when not only BESS is connected to wind farm but also to HESS. To verify the proposed system, results of computer simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC program with actual output data of wind farms of Jeju Island will be presented.
Property Analysis of Solar Selective Coatings

The chemical composition of the black Cr solar selective coatings electrodeposited were investigated for property analysis by using a XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) before and after annealing in air at

Estimation of minimum BESS capacity for regulating the output of wind farms considering power grid operating condition in Jeju Isalnd

This paper presents the estimation of minimum BESS capacity for regulating the output of wind farms considering power grid operating condition in Jeju Island. To analyze the characteristics of wind farm outputs with a BESS, the real data of wind farms, Sung-San, Sam-dal and Hang-Won wind farm, located in the eastern part of Jeju island is considered. The wind farms are connected to Sung-san substation to transfer the electric power to Jeju power grid. Consequently, at PCC (Point of Common Coupling), it can see a huge wind farm connected to the substation and thus it can be expected that the smoothing effect is affected by not only the different wind speeds for each area but also the different mechanical inertia of wind turbines. In this paper, two kinds of simulation have been carried out. One is to analyze the real data of wind farm outputs during a winter season, and the other is to connect a virtual BESS to eliminate the unintended generating power changes by the uncontrolled wind farm outputs as shown in the former data. In the conclusion, two kinds of simulation results show that BESS installed in the substation is more efficient than each wind farms with BESS, respectively.
Analysis on Wind Turbine Degradation of the Shinan Wind Power Plant

This paper investigated wind turbine degradation quantitatively by analyzing the short-term operation records of the Shinan Wind Power Plant. Instead of a capacity factor which is needed to be normalized its variability due to monthly wind speed change, this study suggests an analysis method by taking the difference between the theoretical power output calculated from the nacelle wind speed and actual power output as the quantitative index of performance degradation. For three-year SCADA data analysis of the Shinan Wind Power Plant, it was confirmed that power output degradation rate of 0.54% per year. This value is within the average reduction rate 0.4%/year~0.9%/year of normalized capacity factor of the onshore wind power plants in U.K. and Denmark; however, lower than the rate 2%/year of Canadian wind power plants.
Wind Turbine Power Performance Testing using Nacelle Transfer Function

A study on power performance testing of a wind turbine which has no met-mast at a distance of 2~4 rotor diameter was carried out using the Nacelle Transfer Function, NTF, according to IEC 61400-12-2. The wind data for this study was measured at HanKyoung wind farm of Jeju Island. The NTF was modeled using the correlation between wind speeds from the met-mast and from the wind turbine nacelle within 2~4 rotor diameter from the met-mast. The NTF was verified by the comparison of estimated Annual Energy Productions, AEPs, and binned power curves. The Nacelle Power Curve, NPC, was derived from the nacelle wind speed data corrected by NTF. The NPC of wind turbine under test and the power curve offered by the turbine manufacturer were compared to check whether the wind turbine is properly generating electricity. Overall the NPC was in good agreement with the manufacturer`s power curve. The result showed power performance testing for a wind turbine which has no met-mast at a distance of 2~4 rotor diameter was successfully carried out in compliance with IEC 61400-12-2.
A Study on the Reset of Examination Criteria for Energy Use Plan through Consultation Case Analysis

The Consultation about Energy Use Plan is prescribed by the Energy Use Rationalization Act. In order to reset Examination Criteria for Energy Use Plan, consultation case analysis from 2001 to 2010 were carried out and National Energy Master Plan was reviewed. This study proposes that Examination Criteria for Energy Use Plan be should divided into Urban & Tourism complex development project and Industrial complex development project for the prevention of civil complain. Also predicts that effect of energy savings calculated by Reset Examination Criteria on
energy demand BAU at 2030 is 2.2%, effect of new & renewable energy utilization at 2030 is 3% and the rate of
reduction to greenhouse gas emission BAU at 2020 is 1.1%.
A Study on Computer Simulation to Investigate Correlations between Temperature Controlling Effect of Green Roof System and the Photovoltaic Power Generation Efficiency

These day cities experience serious climatic changes due to environmental load caused by disturbance in the circulation systems of water resources and energy. As technological improvement to respond to various climatic changes and disasters are also requested in the field of construction, inter-disciplinary studies linked to the establishment of sustainable environmental control and energy systems is required in a consilient perspective. This study aims to infer correlations in the impact of environmental changes caused by rooftop greening system on the photovoltaic power generation efficiency through computer simulation in an integrated perspective. By doing so, it seeks to provide basic study for developing a photovoltaic system integrated with building revegetation that is sustainable in environmental and resource aspects. A Study on the Improvement of New and Renewable Energy Certification Criteria in the Green Building Certification System

Deploying new and renewable energy should be encouraged due to scarce of natural resources and to reduce the
emission. Regarding the Green Building Certification System, `2.2.1 new and renewable energy use`, and `2.3.1 carbon dioxide emission reductions` are related to new and renewable energy. Applying new and renewable energy can achieve the score in two criteria mentioned above and most of buildings get a perfect score in the green building certification system. So these criteria needs to be revised to have discrimination. In this study, supply rate of new and renewable energy of the buildings that have achieved Green Building Certification by E Green Building Certification Institute was analyzed. The improvement of assessment criteria related to new and renewable energy is proposed and could be applied to the revisions.
A Study on Fault Detection for Photovoltaic Power Modules using Statistical Comparison Scheme

In recent years, many investigations about photovoltaic power systems have been significantly carried out in the fields of renewable power energy. Such research area generally includes developments of highly efficient solar cells, advanced power conversion systems, and smart monitoring systems. A generic objective of fault detection and diagnosis techniques is to timely recognize unexpected faulty of dynamic systems so that economic demage occurred by such faulty is decreased by means of engineering techniques. This paper presents a novel fault detection approach for photovoltaic power arrays which are electrically connected in series and parallels. In the proposed fault detection scheme, we first measure all of photovoltaic modules located in each array by using electronic sense systems and then compare each measurement in turn to detect location of fault module through statistic computation algorithm. We accomplish real-time experiments to demonstrate our proposed fault detection methodology by using a test-bed system including two 20 watt photovoltaic modules.
Long and Short Wave Radiation and Correlation Analysis Between Downtown and Suburban Area(I) - Observation of the Long and Short Wave Radiation in Summer and Winter Season of Daegu -

The objective of this study was to compare and analyze for seasonal long short-wave radiation characteristics between downtown area and suburban area in Daegu through field observations. This study was confirmed the regional and seasonal radiation environments and it can utilize as basic data for the analysis of the urban radiation environment and the effects of urbanization. The followings are main results from this study. 1) The downward shortwave radiation showed the similar value of the radiation generally in the downtown area and the suburban area of the city during the winter and summer season. but, long-wave radiation is always higher in downtown area. 2) In case of the long-wave radiation at two stations, we observed
in the winter season and
in summer season. As a result, we can see summer season is higher than winter about two times in long-wave radiation. 3) In case of short wave radiation, there is high correlation between two stations in winter season but very low correlation between two stations in summer season because of local atmosphere unstability and etc.
Long and Short Wave Radiation and Correlation Analysis Between Downtown and Suburban Area(II) - Study on Correlation Analysis Method of Radiation Data -

The propose of this study is to understand the phenomenon of radiation and comparison of analysis of two methods. One is analysis method of same-time data and the another is analysis method of rank data. We confirmed that two methods of correlation analysis had the effectiveness and suitability. The followings are main results from this study. 1) The seasonal correlation coefficient of long and short-wave radiation is higher in winter than in summer because of high humidity in the summer season can makes easily cloud in the sky locally. 2) According to analysis method, there is big difference in correlation coefficient from 0.494(Analysis method of same-time data) to 0.967(Analysis method of rank data) with short-wave radiation by the location during summer. These results have significant value in solar radiation research and analysis. It has explored a new way for solar radiation research of analysis method as well.
