  • Changwon National University has been developing and using a computerized supporting system named SAVIORS for ABEEK(Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) related tasks since the year of 2001. The main purpose of the development of SAVIORS is to totally computerize all tasks related to ABTEK so that faculty staff may perform their job as readily and efficiently as possible. In this paper, detailed functions and utilization records of the SAVIORS are introduced for sharing the advantages of the system with other institutes.

An Integrative Literature Review on Gender in Engineering Education (공학교육에서의 성별에 관한 통합적 문헌 고찰)

  • This paper investigated how three representative domestic and international engineering education journals explored societal supports contributing to retention and persistence in engineering, especially among women. An integrative literature review of engineering education journals was carried out to identify the flow of research and practice of engineering education for females. The findings indicate that retention and persistence of women in engineering is closely relevant to issues of diversity management, collaboration competency, and self-leadership.

  • Outcomes based engineering education is not necessary only for the accreditation by the ABEEK, but the actual improvement and enhancement of the engineering education. Also, it is the new and big trend in engineering education filed world widely. The new methodology for performing outcomes based education has been proposed for engineering education and the practical application for so called 'life-long learning' outcome has been presented. Furthermore, the way to 'close-the-loop' for CQI(continuous quality improvement) in engineering education has been shown.

  • 본 논문은 공학교육과정에 기술사업화 교육이 본격적으로 도입되고 있는 최근 추세 하에 국내 공학교육 환경을 고려한 효과적인 기술사업화 교육시스템 모델을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 본 논문은 문헌연구를 통해 국내 공학교육 과정에서 전개되고 있는 기술사업화 교육의 주요 이슈들에 대해 진단하고 효과적인 기술사업화 교육시스템의 구축 방향을 분석하였다. 둘째, 본 논문은 문헌연구와 해외사례연구를 통해 공학교육과정에서 도입해야 하는 효과적인 기술사업화 교육시스템 모델을 정의하였다. 셋째, 본 논문은 국내 공학과정에 이미 도입된 기술사업화 교육시스템과 효과적인 기술사업화 교육 시스템 모델간의 비교연구를 통해 현재 국내 공학교육에서 이루어지고 있는 국내 기술사업화 교육시스템의 문제점을 진단하고 합리적인 개선방안을 제시하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the recognition of engineering professionals in Primary and middle school education. For the study, survey was proceeded through experts in engineering. The result of research follows. First, experts in engineering recognized that engineering has a significant impact in the national economic development and competitiveness. Experts in engineering, had a recognition consistent to some extent for engineering. and we have found engineering's own characteristics that emphasize "problem solving and design, innovation and creativity, economy optimization". Second, experts in engineering recognized that engineering education in Primary and middle school rarely take place, and also does not provide enough information for students. Third, experts in engineering recognized that engineering education is very needed in Primary and middle school. Through this, students can understand creative design problem-solving process. In addition, Experts of engineering, have a variety of educational demands for School level to the level of engineering education should start, level educational purposes, how to apply effective and so on.

  • Though accreditation demands considerable ongoing effort on the part of the college, about 10 percent of Korean engineering colleges has been accredited for 5years by ABEEK. It is true that engineering accreditation contributed the Korean engineering education to improve. Many engineering colleges which had prepared the engineering accreditation developed the integrating system for the engineering education, and over 50 engineering education research centers which assisted to programs in accreditation were founded. Also the faculty commitment to quality programs and excellence in teaching, continuous counseling for students, portfolio guiding and continuous quality improvement(CQI) etc. were performed for accreditation preparation. The engineering colleges preparing accreditation has made efforts for satisfying accreditation criteria, but it is difficult of modifying education systems which have been maintained by now. In addition, engineering colleges need guideline how to satisfy standards. The purpose of this study is to analyze draft statement of 4 universities which were evaluated in 2006 and to suggest the minimal resources for engineering colleges to prepare accreditation.

Exploration on Teaching and Learning Strategies through Analyzing Cases of Foreign Engineering Education (해외 공학교육 사례분석을 통한 교수학습 전략 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore teaching and learning strategies through analyzing cases of foreign engineering education. With the analysis criteria composed of engineering education model, teaching and learning method, evaluation strategy, and technology supporting strategy, 10 foreign colleges of engineering in 5 countries were examined and analyzed. Teaching and learning strategies deduced from analysis state as follows. First of all, it need to develop engineering education models that reform should be made in systematic approach to teaching and learning, workplaces and laboratories, evaluation, technology support, etc. Secondly, the strategy for teaching and learning recommends supporting student directed learning, active learning participation, and collaboration learning by inductive learning strategies such as problem based learning, inquiry learning, project based learning, studio based learning, and blended learning. Thirdly, the evaluation strategy suggests that evaluation should be made to reflect students' learning and facilitate continuous learning based current learning results while it is necessary to build up a whole evaluation system. Finally, it is the educational technology approach for systematic engineering education that is required considering that many foreign colleges of engineering have reformed engineering education through technology supporting systems and are maximizing research and education in connection with other universities. This study is expected to contribute as preliminary data in developing further teaching and learning models and strategies for nurturing engineering students.
