Case Study on a Child's Informal Knowledge of Carrying and Borrowing (받아올림과 받아내림이 있는 계산과 관련한 아동의 비형식적 지식에 대한 사례연구)

  • This study aims to investigate a child's informal knowledge of carrying and borrowing in additive calculations. The additive word problems including three types of calculations are posed a child that is the first grader and has no lessons about carrying and borrowing. By analysing his answers, his informal knowledge, that is his methods and strategies for calculating the additive problems are revealed. As a result, conceptual aspects and procedural aspects of his informal knowledge are recognized, and the didactical implications are induced for connecting his informal knowledge and the formal knowledge about carrying and borrowing.

Interpretation of Teacher Knowledge in Geometry with Shulman - Fischbein Framework: Cases of US Preservice Teachers (Shulman-Fischbein 개념틀을 활용한 예비 교사의 기하 영역에 대한 지식 해석 : 미국 예비교사들의 사례)

  • There is no doubt about the importance of teacher knowledge for good teaching. Many researches attempted to conceptualize elements and features of teacher knowledge for teaching in a quantitative way. Unlike existing researches, this article suggests an interpretation of preservice teacher knowledge in the field of geometry using the Shulman - Fischbein framework in a qualitative way. Seven female preservice teachers voluntarily participated in this research and they performed a series of written tasks that asked their subject matter knowledge (SMK) and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Their responses were analyzed according to mathematical algorithmic -, formal -, and intuitive - SMK and PCK. The interpretation revealed that preservice teachers had overally strong SMK, their deeply rooted SMK did not change, their SMK affected their PCK, they had appropriate PCK with regard to knowledge of student, and they tended to less focus on mathematical intuitive - PCK when they considered instructional strategies. The understanding of preservice teachers' knowledge throughout the analysis using Shulman-Fischbein framework will be able to help design teacher preparation programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the degree of mathematics teachers' recognition and understanding of mathematics education curriculum at the college of education. The subject of this study is 30 secondary school mathematics teachers who graduated from the department of mathematics education at the college of education. To accomplish this study, loather's knowledge is divided into two groups such as 'subject matter knowledge' (ready-made mathematics) and 'pedagogical content knowledge' (school mathematics and its teaching planning and methods). As a result, this study examines which subjects are required to achieve the pedagogical content knowledge in order to be a professional mathematics teacher.

  • Embryology is essential for the undergraduate students of medical college to understand the process and mechanisms related to both normal and abnormal development. In almost all medical colleges, anatomy class precedes embryology or at least begin simultaneously with embryology even when the anatomy related subjects including embryology are operated as integrated process during the course of basic medical science curriculum. However in the medical college of Dankook University, embryology begins in premedical course and also precedes anatomy and other anatomy related subjects. This pattern of curriculum might have its own merit and there shouldn't be any problem or difficulty in learning general embryology contents such as fertilization process, early weeks of development, congenital malformations, and fetal membranes. However, the situation is somewhat different in learning system based embryology which is focused on the development of each human system during the embryonic period. As an attempt of prerequisite learning of anatomical knowledge before beginning each chapter of system based embryology, group presentation method was newly introduced to the embryology class. In this study, a survey analysis was performed in both presentation and non-presentation group. Common survey questionnaire for both presentation and non-presentation group was composed of previous experiences on embryology related subjects, necessities of knowledge on anatomy in learner's aspect, and free comments on embryology class at large. For the presentation group, preferred methods and contents for the prerequisite learning of anatomy, relevances in the level of difficulty and length of presentation class, and preferred level of prerequisite learning of anatomy were added to survey questionnaire. In the results, necessities of knowledge on anatomy in learner's aspect between presentation and nonpresentation group was different with statistical significance. In non-presentation group, it was revealed that the students themselves hardly recognize the necessities of prerequisite learning because originally they had no experience on anatomy class. Therefore, the results revealed that the precedent effort of lecturer to supply diverse chances in prerequisite learning of anatomy is a high priority especially when embryology precedes anatomy or other anatomy related subjects.

An Analysis on the Pre-service Teachers' Knowledge about Elementary Students' Problem Solving Strategies for Fraction Division (초등학생들의 분수 나눗셈 문제해결 방법에 대한 예비교사들의 지식 분석)

  • Because the role of the teacher is important for the education to actualize the goals of the curriculum, the interest about the teacher's knowledges has been addressed as an important research topic. Among them, the pedagogical content knowledge is the knowledge that can emphasize the professionalism of the teacher. In this study, I analyzed the elementary pre-service teachers' the problem solving strategies that they imagined the methods that elementary school students can think about fraction division. Pre-service teachers who participated in this study were completed all of the mathematics education courses in the pre-service teachers' education courses. The research was conducted using the four type-problems of fraction division. The results showed that elementary pre-service teachers responded in the order of equal sharing problem-measurement division-partitive division-context of determination of a unit rate problem. They presented significant responses not only with typical algorithms but also with pictures or expressions. On the basis of this research, we have to take an interest in the necessity of sharing and recognizing various methods of fraction division in pre-service teachers education.

A Study on Elementary Preservice Teachers' Subject Matter Knowledge and Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Fraction-related Operations: A Teacher Education Perspective (예비 초등 교사들의 분수 연산에 관한 내용적 지식과 교수학적 지식 수준에 대한 연구: 교사교육적 관점)

  • A case study was conducted to investigate the understandings of the subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge held by 63 elementary preservice teachers in dealing with the division by a fraction. The study results showed that, in terms of the subject matter knowledge, the preservice teachers did not have a conceptual understanding of the division by a fraction and, in terms of the pedagogical content knowledge, they depended heavily on algorithms without a conceptual understanding of the meaning of the division by a fraction.

The results of geologic landscape utilization research and its facing problem. (지질경관 활용에 관한 연구 성과와 과제)

  • 우리들은 초 중등교육을 통해 암석의 종류와 특징, 지질형태와 퇴적구조, 그리고 화석에 대해 지속적으로 교육 받아왔다. 그러나 암석이나 노두를 보고 학교에서 배운 지식을 바르게 적용할 수 있는 학생은 매우 드물다. 또한 아름다운 경관을 보며 지질학적으로 형성과정을 해석할 수 있는 사람도 매우 드물 것이다. 여기서는 지질경관에 대한 정보를 어떻게 제공하고 있는가에 대한 연구 성과를 정리해보고 문제점을 도출하고자 한다. 현재까지 지질경관을 알려주는 연구 성과를 크게 나누면 3종류가 있다. 첫째, 지질학습장의 개발 및 활용에 관한 연구이다. 이 부류의 수집된 자료는 학위논문(29편)과 전문학술지(27편)로 현재 56편이나 검색에 따라 더 늘어날 것이다. 이들은 야외 노두에 대한 효과적인 지질학습을 위한 자료개발을 위주로 하고 있다. 이러한 내용들은 전문가 양성에는 대단히 좋은 프로그램이지만 청소년이나 일반대중들에게 너무 어려운 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 또한 교육청에서 주관하는 탐방계획으로 "경기도 지구과학교사 연구회"가 있는데, 주로 경기도 한탄강유역을 대상으로 하고 있다. 이 연구회 자료에서는 지역의 특성을 살린 야외지질학습장을 개발하고 현장에 적용하기 위한 노력을 볼 수가 있다. 두 번째로 과학전람회 자료로서 현장교사와 학생들의 야외학습에 대한 인식이 잘 나타나 있다. 수집된 자료는 총 55편으로 야외지질조사를 통해 관찰 자체에 중점을 두었는데, 최근에는 노두관찰에 덧붙여 탐구학습 태도와 창의성을 함양하는 쪽으로 옮겨가고 있다. 세 번째 자료는 일반대중을 위한 서적이다. 이 서적들은 저자들의 전공에 따라 그 내용이 다소 다르다. 즉 일반여행안내 책자는 노두나 암석은 소개하고 있으나 지질학적 설명이 전혀없으며(예, 남도해안 2000리), 지리학자들의 저술에는 지형의 형성을 지질학적으로 설명하려 애쓴 흔적이 보인다(예, 한국지리이야기). 다음으로 지구과학들의 저술은 전형적인 지질답사 안내서에 가까워 내용 자체는 좋으나 흥미가 다소 떨어진다(예, 가족이 함께 떠나는 지질여행, 제주도 지질여행). 지질학과 흥미를 적절히 혼합한 책으로 '우리 땅 과학 답사기'정도가 있다. 최근 한국암석학회에서는 "우리의 명산"을 지질과 경관의 관점에서 해석하려는 심포지엄을 2차례 가졌다. 그러나 그 내용면에서는 경관지질이라는 개념을 정립했다고 보기에는 다소 미흡 하나, 황상구 교수의 주왕산에 관한 내용은 앞으로 경관지질 연구에 대한 발전의 여지를 보여주었다. 앞으로 지질경관에 대하여 지질학적 야외답사나 과학지식 습득에 국한시키지 말고, 그 지역의 특성을 살린 관광 또는 민속과 연계하여 지구과학적 학습효과와 더불어 인성교육에 도움이 되는 학습 콘텐츠를 개발하도록 노력해야 할 것이다. 일반 대중이 우리나라의 빼어난 지질 경관을 손쉽게 이해하고 즐기게 되면, 세계자연유산이나 세계지질공원을 지정 받는 과정도 더 쉬워질 것이다.

A Comparative Analysis on the Research Products of Each Other Between Korea and Japan - With an Emphasis on the Cultural Fields - (한.일간 지식정보의 생산과 흐름분석 - 문화분야를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper analyzes and studies all the publications as well as the flow of knowledge and information on the Korea-Japan relationship during the 20th century, especially in the area of culture. For the purpose of the systematic study, the subject area was divided into the following six parts, 1) Civilization at large, 2) Philosophy, 3) Religion 4) Arts, 5) Language, and 6) Literature. As the result of the study, a union catalog for monographic publications from both countries has been produces. The union catalog has produced that more publications have bean issued in Japan than in Korea in every part of the subject. During the part 15 years, however, Korea has produced over 106 publications more than Japan.

Teachers' Decision and Enactment of Their Content Knowledge Assessed Through Problem Posing - A U.S. Case (문제 만들기를 통해 알아본 교사의 내용지식 사용에 대한 결정과 수행 - 미국 사례를 중심으로)

  • 164 preservice elementary teachers' decision and enactment of their knowledge of fraction multiplication were examined in a context where they were asked to write a story problem for a multiplication problem with two proper fractions. Participants were selected from an entry level course and an exit level course of their teacher preparation program to reveal any differences between the groups as well as any recognizable patterns within each group and overall. Patterns and tendencies in writing story problems were identified and analyzed. Implications of the findings for teaching and teacher education are discussed.

Pre-Service Teachers' Understanding of Contexts for Constructing Exponential Graph (지수함수 그래프의 구성 맥락에 대한 예비교사들의 이해)

  • This study examined the understanding of 24 pre-service teachers about the three contexts for constructing the exponential graphs. The three contexts consisted of the infinite points context (2009 revision curriculum textbook method), the infinite straight lines context (French textbook method), and the continuous compounding context (2015 revision curriculum textbook method). As the result of the examination, most of the pre-service teachers selected the infinite points context as easier context for introducing the exponential graph. They noted that it was the appropriate method because they thought their students would easily understand, but they showed the most errors in the graph presentation of this method. These errors are interpreted as a lack of content knowledge. In addition, a number of pre-service teachers noted that the infinite straight lines context and continuous compounding context were not appropriate because these contexts can aggravate students' difficulty in understanding. What they pointed out was interpreted in terms of knowledge of content and students, but at the same time those things revealed a lack of content knowledge for understanding the continuous compounding context. In fact, considering the curriculum they have experienced, they were not familiar with this context, continuous compounding. These results suggest that pre-service teacher education should be improved. Finally, some of the pre-service teachers mentioned that using technology can help the students' difficulties because they considered the design of visual model.
