Analysis of University Students' Modal Shift for Commuting Trip Due to the Introduction of New Urban Rail Transit in Gyeongsan City - Comparison between SP Model Before the Introduction and RP Model After the Introduction - (대구 도시철도 경산 연장에 따른 대구-경산 간 대학생 통학통행의 도시철도 전환수요 분석 - 개통 전 SP모형과 개통 후 RP모형의 비교 -)

  • The main objective of this paper is to analyze university students' modal shift for commuting trip due to the introduction of new urban rail transit in a satellite city of metropolitan area. The paper uses SP(2011)/RP(2013) data collected from Yeungnam University in Gyeongsan City, which is a satellite city of Deagu Metropolitan City. So far few researches, especially using before-and-after individual SP/RP travel survey, have been conducted on analyzing university students' modal shift due to the introduction of new urban rail transit. For this research, some descriptive statistical analyses were conducted. Furthermore, some empirical logit models were estimated for analyzing factors affecting the modal shift. Finally, some important findings and policy implications are discussed. The significant findings from this research are summarized as follows. From the descriptive statistical analyses of SP and RP data, it is found that the rate of modal shift to rail transit is relatively high especially for bus travellers. Furthermore, from the empirical SP model estimation, it is found that time saving is the most important factor affecting the modal shift to urban rail transit. On the other hand, from the empirical RP model estimation, it is found that residential location is the most important factor affecting the modal shift to urban rail transit.

  • This study aims to verify the causal relationship between service quality of the urban railway operating agency and users' behaviors, targeting the urban railway users. The perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality had an influence on tangibility and convenience, and the perceived usefulness was significant to all attributes; therefore, it is judged that reliability, correspondence and safety should be improved to increase the users' perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality. Based on these study results, the urban railway operating agency should make an effort to increase the perceived ease of use and usefulness of the urban railway to improve the service quality, to positively change the users' attitudes toward use, and to make the positive change connected to the intention of reuse and intention of recommendation, the users' behavior intentions.

Study on Forecasting Urban Rail Demand Reflecting Transfer Fare Value in a Non-integrated Fare System (독립.환승할인요금체계하의 환승요금가치를 고려한 도시철도 수요추정 연구)

  • The recent increase of light rail construction by the private sector in Korea has caused a new issue in forecasting rail demand. Integrated fare systems between several rail operators is convenient and brings cost savings to users, and therefore is also very effective in increasing demand. However, it causes some short-term revenue loss to operators so that the private sector often suggests a non-integrated fare system. The current rail demand forecasting model is based upon an integrated fare system. Thus this model cannot be used to forecast the demand with a non-integrated fare system. Some value of transfer fare should be estimated and applied to forecast the demand in a non-integrated fare system. This study conducted a stated preference (SP) survey on urban railway passengers and estimated the value of transfer fare. The estimated value is 2,609 Won/hr, which is about 52% of in-vehicle time. This shows railway users have a tendency to pay more for transfer fares to save time or distance. This value has some limitations since it is derived from the SP survey. If some non-integrated fare system is applied in the future and a RP survey is conducted and compared with these study results, a more clear value of the transfer fare will be derived.

  • 수십년 간 주요 운송 수단의 한가지로 사용되고 있는 도시철도는, 사고 발생 시 큰 경제적 손실과 사회적 손실을 야기할 수 있으나, 사고의 주 원인 중 한가지인 도시철도 전력설비 고장에 대한 감시 및 진단 시스템은 적용되고 있지 않은 실정이다. 최근 이러한 전력설비 상태 감시 및 진단에 대한 필요성이 점차 커지게 되어, 도시철도 전력설비 수명예측 시스템 설계에 관한 연구 과제가 제안되어 현재 국토해양부와 건설기술평가원, 그리고 한국철도기술연구원의 주도 하에 수행되고 있다. 본문에서는 수명예측 시스템 설계에 필요한 도시철도 전력 시스템의 특성과 고장 사례를 조사하였으며, 각 도시철도 운영기관의 사용자 요구사항 설문 결과, 그리고 수명예측 시스템의 일부인 전력설비 감시진단 시스템 기초 설계 결과를 나타내었다.

  • 최근들어, 도시철도 전력설비에는 온라인 상태진단이 가능한 센서를 설치하여 각 기기의 상태를 상시 감시하는 시스템이 도입되고 있다. 이러한 기술이 적용됨으로써 전력설비의 교체 주기를 판단하고, 사고를 미연에 방지 하는 등의 최적의 관리를 할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 운영기관에 따라 다양한 방법의 진단설비가 설치되어 있어 유지보수가 어려워, 도시철도에 적합한 진단시스템의 개발이 요구되어 지고 있다. 도시철도 주요 전기설비로는 변압기, 단로기, 차단기, 정류기 등이 있다. 현재 이를 진단하기 위한 방법으로는 각 장치에 따라 부분방전시험, 유전정접시험, 절연유분석시험, 차단기동작시험 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 국내 외에서 제시되고 있는 전기설비의 온라인 상태진단 기술을 조사하고, 상용화된 온라인 상태진단 시스템을 분석하여 도시철도 전기설비에 적용 가능한 상태진단 항목과 상태진단 기법을 조사, 분석하였다.

  • This research, which was started with a need for constant monitoring to find out urban societies and spacial effects by urban railway after the opening, was intended to empirically explore urban and social changes by the opening of Daejeon City metro line 1st which would greatly affect the spacial structure of the city. For this goal, we expected the effect of urban subway on the city with academic consideration and precedent study. Monitoring results of the subway station areas of Daejeon City metro line 1st showed the opening of urban railway had an influence on the flow of urban plan and urban space structure through population, land use, total-developing areas, and land price change. In other words, as urban railway opens the number of population and population activities centered on the subway station areas, and these movements led to the expansion of the commercial areas. Finally, they caused the average land prices to rise. Likewise, urban monitering is significantly useful comprehending the generally time-periodic changes of cities and even conceiving the present cities.

Identifying Universal Design Factors for Reducing and Preventing Negligent Accidents in Urban Railway Station (도시철도 역사 안전사고 감소 및 예방을 위한 유니버설디자인 요소 도출)

  • Negligent accidents in urban railway station not only give damages to users but also cause avoidance of public transport usage. This study aims to identify design factors in designing urban railway station for reducing and preventing negligent accidents in the station. Especially this study identifies design factors from the perspectives of universal design concept which is for all persons. This study classified negligent accidents in urban railway stations, analysed degree of danger and identified the causes of accidents. Then this study identified universal design factors based on the results of analysis on the priority of accident factors relating to negligent accidents. The results of this study can be utilized as basic data in designing urban railway station for reducing and preventing negligent accident in urban railway station.

International Comparison of Fare Policy in Urban Metro (도시철도 운임정책 국제비교)

  • Recently, as various metro lines have been constructed and connected to other lines the rate of utilization has also been increased. However, the existing fare policy which the government does still stick to causes not only inappropriate action to the demand pattern but aggravation of the profit of the operation company. This study reviewed rail fare policy of major countries such as Japan and U.K etc. to improve the rationality of fare policy in Korea. In order to systematical analysis of fare policy, such viewpoints as of fare decision method, the card fare discounting system, the structure of fare, and the government subsidy policy were reviewed. Based on the results from the review, various problems and improvement plans were drawn. Through this study, appropriate fare systems to urban railway users could be given to improve the chronic deficit problem of urban railway operators.
