A Study on the Change of Urban Spatial Networks in Gwangju and Naju due to Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation City (광주·전남 혁신도시로 인한 광주광역시 및 나주시의 도시 공간 네트워크 특성 변화에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the effects of the construction of Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation City were examined on the existing urban context around the city in the respect of urban spatial structure, and improvement directions of the broader region of Gwangju and Naju were discussed. Focusing on the wide-range region from Gwangju Metropolitan City to Naju City including the innovative city, comparative analyses were conducted of the wide-range spatial structures before and after construction of the innovative city using Primal Spatial Network-based Spatial Analysis. As a result, it was found that Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovative City had more influence on Gwangju Metropolitan City, than Naju City. After construction of the innovative city, Gwangju City showed clear differentiation of accessibility and centrality by region. The centrality has moved to the southern areas of Gwangsan-gu and Nam-gu, and accessibility has increased on the arterial roads connecting the innovative city and Gwangju. However, the accessibility of those roads did not spread to urban cores. Rather, it was found that the accessibility was lowered on the second ring road and the arterial roads connected to it, and the centrality in the urban cores was lowered than before construction of the innovative city. In this regard, Gwangju Metropolitan City is expected to increase the likelihood of development in the outskirts of the city, which is a boundary area with Naju, due to the innovative city. While it is expected that the centrality of the urban cores is shifting, and some urban cores will decline or even become hollow. Moreover, the phenomenon of decline of the old urban core is more concerned than other regions in that the centrality of the old urban core has already begun to decrease before the construction of the innovative city.

A Study on the Changes of Urban Spatial Networks in Seoul Metropolitan Region Caused by the Development of GTX-A (수도권 광역급행철도 A노선으로 인한 수도권 지역의 도시공간 네트워크적 특성 변화 연구)

  • This study is a basic study on the effect of the GTX-A line on the metropolitan area. The main purpose of this study is to examine the range and intensity of the GTX-A line's influence on the accessibility of the surrounding areas in the dimension of urban spatial networks for the entire Seoul metropolitan area including Seoul City and Gyeonggi-do. To the purpose end, first, the expected effect on accessibility that appeared in the initial GTX-A line plan was derived by literature review. Next, using spatial analysis based on ground and underground spatial networks for the entire Seoul metropolitan area, the GTX-A line was compared and analyzed before and after the establishment. Finally, the expected effect of the initial GTX-A line plan on the accessibility of the surrounding area was discussed based on the range and intensity of the change in accessibility by the GTX-A line derived in the previous step. As a result of the analysis, it was shown that the accessibility of the area around the GTX-A line was improved, the range and intensity of change in accessibility were different by regions. It was found that the regional range and intensity of accessibility improvement in the regions at the start and end of the GTX-A line were higher than in other regions. On the other hand, it was found that the intensity of accessibility improvement weakened as it went to the middle point, and in some regions meaning the intensity of accessibility only affected accessibility locally. Considering the results of this analysis, it is expected that the construction of the GTX-A line can improve traffic congestion and welfare in the Seoul metropolitan area, but it is still skeptical about the development of compressed cities through TOD at each surrounding of stations of GTX-A line.

Bus Stop Network Integrated Spatial Network for Urban Spatial Analysis (도시 공간분석을 위한 버스노선망 통합 공간 네트워크)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a spatial network reproduction method based on 'integration of bus stop network into existing spatial network' for urban spatial analysis and to verify its effectiveness. To achieve this goal, first, a method of integrating a spatial network based on a 'bus stop network' with an existing 'street network' and a 'integration of subway network into street network' based spatial network was proposed. Next, in order to verify the effectiveness of the spatial networks based on the 'integration of bus stop network into street network' and 'integrated bus stop network, street network and subway network', a correlation analysis between the space syntax analysis result of Seoul and the actual floating population was conducted. As a result of the analysis, the correlation value of 'integration of bus stop network into street network' was slightly higher than that of existing 'street network', and 'integrated bus stop network, street network and subway network' showed a little lower correlation value compared to existing 'integration of street network into subway network'. In conclusion, when the space syntax is applied to urban spatial analysis, the "bus stop network" implies that there is a limit to improving the performance of the spatial analysis model.

An Alternative Evaluation Model for Benefit Measurement of Public Transportation by the Open of Urban Railway: Seoul Metro Line 9 (도시 철도개통에 따른 대중교통이용 편익측정을 위한 대안적 평가모델 : 지하철 9호선을 사례로)

  • In accordance with low carbon and green growth paradigm, a subway is one of major public transit systems for resolving traffic congestion and decreasing traffic accidents. In addition, as subway networks expand, passengers' travel pattern in the subway network change and consequently affect the urban structure. Generally, new subway route has been planned and developed, mainly considering a travel demand forecast. However, it is desired to conduct an empirical analysis on the forecast model regarding change of travel accessibility and passenger demand pattern according to new subway line. Therefore, in this paper, an alternative method, developed based upon a spatial syntax model, is proposed for evaluating new subway route in terms of passenger's mobility and network accessibility. In a case study, we constructed subway network data, mainly targeting the no 9 subway line opened in 2009. With an axial-map analysis, we calculated spatial characteristics to describe topological movement interface. We then analyzed actual modal shift and change on demand of passengers through the number of subway passenger between subway stations and the number of passenger according to comparative bus line from Smart Card to validate suggested methods. Results show that the proposed method provides quantitative means of visualizing passenger flow in subway route planning and of analyzing the time-space characteristics of network. Also, it is expected that the proposed method can be utilized for predicting a passengers' pattern and its impact on public transportation.
