  • This study aims to study the problems and solutions of institutional support for the elderly living alone, focusing on the General Support for Living Alone Elderly announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2018. Results, First, a customized support system for the elderly living alone should be introduced. In order to improve the life satisfaction of the elderly living alone, it is necessary to develop a program that meets the most basic daily life needs, and a specific plan and a support system to link services should be prepared. Second, it is necessary to increase social interest in the elderly living alone. Solving problems for the elderly living alone should be preceded by social interest in the elderly living alone. For this, it is necessary to strengthen the social network. Third, it proposes legislation and amendment for the elderly living alone. Some revisions of existing laws have limitations, and are resolved through individual laws, such as standards and definitions for various types of elderly jobs, reorganization of the delivery system including agencies dedicated to elderly jobs, workers-related regulations, and preferential purchase systems for senior products. • The SPARTAN-3E development kit is equipped with an FPGA which holds 500 thousand logic gates and a bus system platform using MicroBlaze microprocessor system. This kind of embedded systems can be used to gather information from sensor nodes and send over to the main server periodically through the network gateway, using the microprocessor-based embedded system, so that edlers living alone under sensor coverage can send their moving information and can be applied to get help in the event of emergency situations. In this paper, we designed a simple embedded system based on a CPU and flash memories using such FPGAs which can be used to monitor those elderlies living alone. The developed hardware system can be directly combined with the web-based elders-living-alone monitoring system, making the system more efficient.

  • In this study, I wanted to explore in depth the meaning of psychological phenomena experienced by Christian living alone. For this purpose, five male and female living alone aged 65 or older were interviewed in depth, and the data after the interview was qualitatively analyzed by Giorgi's method of phenomenological research. The study found five categories : 'feeling closer to death', 'loneliness due to lack of a partner to talk to', 'helplessness to a debilitated body phenomenon', 'disconnected relationships' and 'looking at God'. The findings that the faith proved to be an important factor of overcoming loneliness in the lives of the elderly, provide a foundation for understanding and the pastoral counseling of the elderly living alone in churches.

Economic status, presence of arthritis, presence of restrict activity, subjective health status had an influence on quality of life in men with an explanatory power of 50.5% (p < .001). Presence of back pain, subjective health status, suicidal ideation had an influence on quality of life in women with an explanatory power of 41.4% (p < .001). Therefore, in order to improve the quality of life of elderly living alone, it is necessary to provide appropriate intervention depending on gender.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the moderating effect of subjective health state of elder who lives alone on the influence of those people's stratum consciousness on their depression. For this purpose, the study utilized the 5th version of Korea Longitudinal Study on Aging 2014 and analyzed data concerning 774 elder who lives alone. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the higher elder who lives alone were in subjective stratum consciousness, the lower they were in depression. Second, elder who lives alone were lower in depression when perceiving they were higher in health state. • In 2017, Korea has reached 1.3 million elderly people living alone. The government is promoting the basic care service for the elderly by using care workers to check the security of the elderly living alone. However, due to lack of service personnel and service usage rate of elderly care workers, it is difficult to manage. To improve these environmental constraints, this study attempted to construct a monitoring system for elderly people living alone by using sensors such as temperature, humidity, motion detection, and gas leak detection. The sensor periodically collects the current status data of the elderly and sends them to the server, creates a real time graph based on the data, and monitors it through the web. In the monitoring process, when the sensor is out of the range of the specified value, it sends a warning text message to the guardian to inform the current situation, and is designed and implemented so as to support the safety life of the elderly living alone.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine ways to improve the quality of life of elderly people living alone in urban areas by identifying their stress, social support, and quality of life as well as analyzing the relationships between these factors. In this research, a questionnaire survey was conducted for approximately two weeks including 232 elderly people aged 65 years and above who were using 10 senior welfare centers in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions. The results of the analysis based on the collected data showed that of the stresses experienced by elderly people living alone in urban areas, the stresses of health, family, and psychological and social stresses had negative effects on social support and quality of life. Also, it was found that the social support of elderly people living alone had positive effects on the quality of life. Additionally, it was found that social support had a mediating effect in the relationship between stress and quality of life of elderly people living alone in urban areas. In other words, social support plays a buffer role in enhancing the quality of life regarding health, family, economy, and psychological and social stresses. This research has significant implications in that it was conducted on elderly people living alone, since elderly people living alone are not only under more stressful circumstances in a vulnerable environment than other seniors but also their quality of life is much lower. The implications of this research are that, from a social point of view, these elderly people living alone should no longer be neglected and that differentiated policy interventions for elderly people living alone is required.
