  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare quality of life of long-term survivors after a subtotal or a total gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QLQ-C30 questionnaire and QLQ-STO22 questionnaire were used to assess quality of life of 166 patients on their 5th annual follow-ups after gastrectomy for gastric cancer. One hundred twenty-six patients underwent a subtotal gastrectomy and 40 patients a total gastrectomy. Results: The subtotal gastrectomy group revealed a trend to have better quality of life in functional scales (physical, role, emotional, cognitive and social), fatigue, pain, dyspnea, diarrhea and financial difficulties. The total gastrectomy group showed a trend to have better quality of life in the global health status and quality of life, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, appetite loss and constipation. In all scales of the EORTC QLQ-STO22, the subtotal gastrectomy group had a trend to have better quality of life. However these did not reach the statistical significance. Conclusion: Surgeons may not limit the extent of resection concerning long-lasting poor quality of life. Oncologically sound resection is recommended.

  • This study aimed to identify the severity and types of prostate symptom, to identify the relationship of prostate symptom, sleep quality and quality of life of the elderly in korea, so to provide basic data for developing nursing interventions for the elderly's prostate symptom management. This study used a descriptive correlational research design. The subjects of this study were 100 elderly men over 65yr in an urban city. Data were collected through personal interviews using questionnaires from September 2006 to March 2007. The IPPS, PSQI and SF-36-K were administered. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) 44% of the participants have moderate to severe Prostate symptom(IPSS>7). 2) Prostate symptom has positive relationship with sleep quality(r=.272, p=.006) and negative relationship with health related quality of life(r=-.197, p=.049). The results of this study indicate that prostate symptom is related to sleep quality and quality of life. So it is necessary to give information to the elderly about the effective coping method of prostate symptom and about the life style which have positive effect to prostate symptom.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyzed the correlation between upper extremity function, activities of daily living, quality of life and therapeutic flow in stroke clients and identify the factors influencing therapeutic flow. Total 249 stroke patients from 13 hospitals were measure at therapist and researcher for upper extremity function, activities of daily living, therapeutic flow and quality of life. Factors that affect the quality of life correlation as s result of positively correlated with upper extremity function(r=.312, p<.001), activities of daily living(r=.605, p<.001), therapeutic flow(r=.525, p<.001). And the effect on quality of life in stroke clients variables affecting therapeutic flow(${\beta}=.344$, p<.001), activities of daily living(${\beta}=.293$, p<.05) and Time since of onset(${\beta}=.145$, p<.05) were the order of analysis. The regression model explained 35.9% of variances(F=35.736, p<.001). Therefore, it was found that therapeutic flow in stroke clients is an important factor for quality of life, future therapeutic flow study will continue to be needed.

  • This study examined diverse capital dynamics and the effect of the dynamics on the quality of life of Korean baby boomers living in Jeonju. Also this study investigated the moderating effect of birth cohort. A structural equation modeling conducted with 303 baby boomers for verification. The results are as follows: First, the human capital of baby boomer directly or indirectly affected psychological, economic, social capital, and quality of life. Second, economic capital directly or indirectly affected psychological, social capital, and quality of life. Third, psychological capital directly or indirectly affected social capital and quality of life. Fourth, social capital affected the quality of life. Fifth, the birth cohort moderated the impacts of economic capital on psychological capital and quality of life. The results provided an understanding of the quality of life of baby boomer and the direction of intervention.

  • This study is to examine the relationship between leisure activities, job satisfaction and quality of life among security agents. To attain the goal of the study described above paragraphs, private guards held in Seoul and Gyeong-Gi were set as a collected group. Then, using judgment sampling method, finally drewout and analyzed 333 peoples in total. The result of reliability analysis check up was here below; Chronbach's $\alpha$= .665-.816. The conclusion drawn from this study is as follows: First, it make no difference between leisure types in job satisfaction. Second, there is a difference between leisure type in quality of life. Third, the level of leisure activities results in the indirect, direct effect on quality of life through job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is an important variable intermediating the relationship between leisure activiteis and quality of life.

  • A pixel-based approach to urban quality of life assessment can be regarded as a spatial decision problem under the condition of complexity because it searches the urban space for evidence of hot spots of quality of life based on multiple and differentially weighted evaluation criteria. Such an assessment involves inappropriate scaling of several incommensurate criteria, much unstructured subjectivity in the decision maker's judgment, and the large data handling in a raster GIS environment. There is a need for identifying alternative approaches to tackle the ill-structured problem in urban quality of life assessment. In this context, this research proposes and implements a spatial multicriteria analysis approach to evaluate urban quality of life in a raster GIS environment. The implementation of this methodology is illustrated with a case study of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Results indicate that the proposed methodology may provide an alternative approach for evaluating the quality of life in an urban environment.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of task oriented activity and modified constraint induced movement therapy (mCIMT) on Quality of Life (QOL) for patients with stroke. Methods : Thirty stroke patients were participated voluntarily and were assigned randomly into task oriented activity and mCIMT groups. The QOL of both groups were assessed using Stroke Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL). Results : The QOL showed a statistically meaningful difference for both groups (p<.05), but after the intervention, the both groups showed no statistically meaningful difference in terms of the QOL (p>.05). Conclusion : We found that task oriented activity and mCIMT improve the QOL of patients with stroke through increasing their affected upper extremity function and movement. It is expected that task oriented activity and mCIMT will have a positive effect on the QOL of stroke patients by applying them to clinic with occupational therapy.
