  • A numerical method for a 2-D oil boom model considering the flexibility of skirt has been developed The neater is assumed rigid and the skirt is tensioned membrane having a point mass at its end The fluid motion is potential. The kinematic condition which demands the continuity of the displacement is imposed at the joint between the floater and the skirt. The dynamic condition for the point mass is imposed at the bottom end of the skirt. The numerical method is based on the Green's function method in the frame of linear potential theory. It finds it's solution simultaneously from the total system of three equations, integral equation, the equation of motion of the floater and the equilibrium equation of the deformation of the skirt. Integral equation is derived by applying the Green's theorem to radiation potential and Green's function. Proper descretization of those three equations leads to the system of a linear algebraic equation. Due to the flexibility of skirt the motion of floater can be diminished in some range of wave frequency and furthermore the mechanism of resonance of the oil boom can be changed. The motion responses of various oil booms have been compared varying the length of the skirt and the point mass. The numerical method has been validated indirectly from the good correspondence between the motion responses of the flexible skirt model and the rigid skirt model in low frequency limit.

  • The high-speed wind tunnel test of rocket model was performed to investigate the effect of skirt configuration on aerodynamic load characteristics of nozzle. Test parameters were the length and diffusing angle of skirt. Test results showed that the gimbals actuator power could be reduced to 1/10 of that without skirt. The normalized test result was proposed to be used as database for skirt design.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the optimum skirt size for a composite pressure vessel using optimum analysis technique. The size optimization for skirt shape of a composite pressure vessel was conducted using sub-problem approximation method and batch processing codes programmed by APDL(ANSYS Parametric Design Language). The thickness and length of skirt part were selected as design variables for the optimum analysis. The objective function and constraints were chosen as weight and displacement of skirt part, respectively. The numerical results showed that the weight of skirt of a composite pressure vessel would be saved by maximum 4.38% through the size optimization analysis for the skirt shape.

  • In this paper, the effects of a skirt deformation on the responses of an Air Cushion Vehicle in waves are investigated. The air in the bag and in the plenum chamber is assumed to be compressible and to have a uniform instantaneous pressure distribution in each volume. The free surface deformation is determined in the framework of linear potential theory by replacing the cushion pressure with the pressure patch moving uniformly with an oscillating strength. And the bag-finger skirt is assumed to be deformed due to the pressure disturbance while its surface area remained constant. The restoring force and moment due to the deformation of bag-finger skirt from the equilibrium shape is included in the equations of hearse and pitch motions. The numerical results of motion responses due to various ratios of the bag and cushion pressure or bag-to-finger depth ratios are shown.

  • The aims of this study is to classify the lower somatotype of adult women and appearance analysis on the shape of flare skirts by using the image processing. Also We have made skirts in order to analyze the various types of appearance of flare skirts by using the image processing. The subjects for our wear test lower somatotype, who were controlled in their waist, abdomen and hip shapes. The flare skirts used for wear test were 112 types(combinated 14 fabric type and 8 lower somatotype). The effect of lower somatotype on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the horizontally hem line section shape and the silhouette of flare skirts with image processing. The data were analyzed by using analysis of variance and Turkey, Duncan multiple range test. The results obtained are summarized as follows: It is shown that the fabric weight elongation differs in fabrics properties, in direction of textures. The shape horizontal section of flare skirt hem line has differed with the number of nodes, wave-height of nodes and breadth of silhouette by fabrics properties and lower somatotype. It is noticed that the breadth of flare skirts by the silhouette has high correlation with the drape ability of fabrics and lower somatotype. Results for our flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somatotype. Therefore we can say that gray-level histograms are correlated with changes in appearance, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somatotype.

  • This study aims to analyze seismic responses of suction foundations for offshore wind turbine. For this purpose, dynamic centrifuge model tests were carried out. The skirt length of the suction foundation is a critical element for bearing mechanism against environmental loads. Thus, dynamic centrifuge model tests were performed and analyzed for three suction foundation models with the ratios of skirt length to suction foundation diameter of 0.5, 0.75, and 1 installed in dense sand. As results, the acceleration amplification at the suction foundation, residual settlement, and residual tilting angle were compared.
