  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting clinical practice-related fatigue among undergraduate nursing students. The data were collected from a questionnaire distributed among 129 juniors and seniors (3rd and 4th year students) in nursing college at the G city, who were at the end of clinical practice. Multiple regression analysis found that the significant major predictors of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students were sleep quality (${\beta}=.30$), anxiety (${\beta}=.26$), exercise frequency (${\beta}=-.21$) and clinical practice stress (${\beta}=.19$). These variable factors could explain 33.6% of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students. This study suggests that sleep quality, anxiety, exercise frequency, and clinical practice stress are significant factors of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students. Therefore, strategies improving sleep quality and exercise and managing anxiety and stress should be developed to reduce the fatigue for nursing students during clinical exposure.

  • A practical model for predicting the risk of fatigue failure of steel highway bridges is developed in this study. The proposed model is derived from fatigue reliability methods by incorporating various factors which may affect the fatigue life of bridges. The fatigue reliability function is assumed to follow the Weibull distribution. The computational form of the Weibull is adopted from Ang-Munse's approach that includes all the statistical uncertainties of the fatigue life of steel members and the stress ranges under variable amplitude loadings. The model accounts for the variation in ADTT, the change in stress history and the effects of inspections, which may occur during the serivce life of bridges. Stress range histograms are collected from the random stress spectra based on the field measurements of an existing bridge, and, thus, the resulting stress range frequency distribution is modelled with a beta distribution. The results of applications of the proposed fatigue analysis methods to an existing bridge show that the proposed models with the computer program developed for numerical computations can be used as a practical tool for the fatigue rating or for the predictions of the remaining fatigue life of deteriorated existing steel bridges.

  • This study aims to identify job stress of firemen and the relations between their job stress, depression and fatigue, targeting firemen who are working for local fire stations. We interviewed the subjects using a short-answer type questionnaire or a online questionnaire. The data collected were analysed with a use of SPSS WIN 15.0 for confidence analysis, correlation analysis, step-by-step multi-regression analysis, and covariance structure analysis(CSA). This study result tasks and emotional stress had a direct effect on depression and fatigue. Therefore, this study suggests that governmental management should be provided for firemen that are classified as a high-risk group in occupational characteristics. Above all, the causes of stress should be diagnosed, its management goals should be set, and effective intervention programs should be provided.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate circadian rhythms, learning flow, and fatigue of college students. The differences in learning flow and fatigue according to the type of circadian rhythms were also examined. The study used a descriptive survey research design. The convenience sample consisted of 224 college students from five universities. The data were collected from May to June in 2013 using the following instruments: Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire-Korean (MEQ-K), Flow State Scale, and Fatigue Assessment Inventory. The participants in the study were mostly put in neither-type (51.8%), and only 4.0% in morning-type. The morning-type students had higher learning flow scores and lower fatigue scores than the night-type students. The types of circadian rhythms measured by MEQ-K were compared to the subjective types of circadian rhythm which was based on the participants' self evaluation. There was a difference in the measured type and the subjective type in 32.1% of the participants. The findings of this study suggest that an intervention program to help college students accurately recognize their circadian rhythms might be effective in improving learning flow and decreasing fatigue.

  • This study is a descriptive research on the subjects of hospital nurses to investigate the effect of job satisfaction and fatigue on their nursing professional attitudes. The subjects were 262 nurses working at five general hospitals in J and S cities. Data collection was conducted from December 2014 to January 2015 using structured questionnaires on job satisfaction, fatigue and nursing professional attitudes. As a result of the study, nurses' nursing profession attitude was high in 30 year old and married nurses, and in clinical experience of either less than a year or more than six years, and nurses' nursing profession attitude was higher in charge nurses and head nurses than in general nurses. The most influential factors affecting the nursing professional attitude were job satisfaction, clinical career, and fatigue in that order. These findings provide theoretical evidence to explain the importance of job satisfaction and fatigue variables in influencing factors on nursing professional attitude. Therefore, in clinical practice, it is necessary to develop and implement an education program to improve nursing professional attitudes by considering nurses' job satisfaction, clinical career and fatigue level.
