The major findings were as follows. First, the better relationship with family and teachers led to lower level of game addiction and delinquency. However, in terms of relationship with friends, better relationship led to lower level of game addiction but higher level of delinquency. Second, as a result of verifying mediator effect of game addiction by decomposing the effects of relationship with family, teachers and friends on delinquency, they all demonstrated negative mediator effect. Based on the results I discussed social welfare intervention methods for game addiction in order to understand and prevent school adolescents' delinquency.

  • School adjustment has been a popular topic among scholars in multicultural family studies, and they commonly report poor adjustment of children from multicultural families. However, without subjects for comparison, these findings may be considered premature. This study investigated school adjustment of children from multicultural families by comparing their adjustment level to that of children from families with Korean parents. By using the matching procedure, this study examined whether children's multicultural family background attributes to their school adjustment with children's observable characteristics paired and matched. For the analyses, the first and fourth wave of Korean Children and Youth Panel Study data were used. When the school adjustment level was examined before the matching procedure, the school adjustment level was indeed lower among children of multicultural families, and their family status was a significant predictor of school adjustment. However, when two groups were paired and matched using matching, the family background had no significant effect, indicating that school adjustment is not predicted by their multicultural family status. Implications for research and practice are also discussed in the paper.

  • This study was the first attempt to investigate which factors influence problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents in South Korea. Using data from the 2015 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems, this study examined the influences of personal characteristics and betting games on problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Regression analyses of personal characteristics on problem gambling showed that being male adolescents, having more allowance, living without parents/guardians, or belonging to probation was associated with higher likelihood of doing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Also, regression analyses of betting games on problem gambling revealed that doing betting games more frequently, doing betting games more time, or spending more money on betting games was associated with higher likelihood of doing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Based on the findings, this study suggested practice and policy implications for addressing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents.

  • Drawing on third to fifth wave data from the Longitudinal Study of North Korean Migrant Youths' Education, we examined the longitudinal relationship between social capital of North Korean Migrant Youths and school adjustment using latent growth modeling(LGM). Specifically, we sought to answer the following research questions: Do social capital and school adjustment among North Korean Migrant Youths change over time? Is there a relationship between the changes in social capital and school adjustment among these students? Our LGM results showed that trends in social capital and school adjustment among these students were not fixed but changed over time. While the social capital developed by these students was found to influence school adjustment at the time of its development, it did not continue to influence changes in school adjustment over time. Changes in school adjustment of North Korean migrant youths were affected by changes in social capital. These results suggest that there is room for gradual improvement of school adjustment level by strengthening social capital of North Korean migrant youths.

For this purpose, this study utilized the second year data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey Data. From the results of the analysis, the most influential variable affecting adolescent's school life adjustment was found to be the sense of community, and adolescent's emotional problems were found to have a effect upon school life adjustment and smart phone dependency based on the choice theory. This study discussed issues of cultivating the sense of community to improve adolescent's school life adjustment, and developing counseling program and reinforcing the counseling personnel with improvement of contingent employment to alleviate smart phone dependency and emotional problems.

For this research, this study used the 4th-year data from the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS)' 4th grader in elementary school and analyzed 2,092 1st grade of middle school students. Data was analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, Pearson coefficient correlation and hierarchical analysis. To examine the mediating effect, the study used sobel test. The findings ]were as follows. First, parental neglect and abuse negatively effected adolescents' school life adjustment. Second, adolescents' ego resilience has a partial mediating effect on the relation between parental neglect and adolescents' school life adjustment. Third, adolescents' ego resilience has a partial mediating effect on the relation between parental abuse and adolescents' school life adjustment. These results suggest that home, school, and local community need to make an effort to improve ego resilience of adolescents, who are suffering from parental neglect and abuse, for school life adjustment.
