  • For effective management of statistical database, statistical summary information must be provided by accessing directly the precomputed summary data from summary database to store and manage meta database for supporting statistical analysis and providing users with statistical summary information. In order to support effectively the use of summary database, we do the design and implementation of meta database and manager having a hierarchical structure as a data dictionary/directory and operation method is presented.

  • Peptide mass mapping is the matching of experimentally generated peptides masses with the predicted masses of digested proteins contained in a database. To identify proteins by matching their constituent fragment masses to the theoretical peptide masses generated from a protein database, the peptide mass fingerprinting technique is used for the protein identification. Thus, it is important to know the theoretical mass distribution of the database. However, few researches have reported the peptide mass distribution of a database. We analyzed the peptide mass distribution of non-redundant protein sequence database in the NCBI after digestion with 15 different types of enzymes. In order to characterize the peptide mass distribution with different digestion enzymes, a power law distribution (Zipfs law) was applied to the distribution. After constructing simulated digestion of a protein database, rank-frequency plot of peptide fragments was applied to generalize a Zipfs law curve for all enzymes. As a result, our data appear to fit Zipfs law with statistically significant parameter values.

  • As the usage of wireless LAN becomes common in working environment, the number of database systems that support both wired and wireless users increases rapidly. The characteristics of wireless LAN that its speed is slow relatively comparing to wired network and the users in its environment connects to different communication points as they moves creates another challenge to be resolved in database systems. In the environment of hybrid communication systems, wired and wireless for voluminous data amount and a number of users, the two layer architecture of the conventional client-server database systems has limitation in the system performance. This is due to that server is the only point of data service in client-server database systems. In this paper, we discuss a new extended database system architecture that data services are distributed among servers and clients based on user database access patterns in order to improve system performance. We analyze the expected system performance by using simulation technique and prove the practical utilization of the system by demonstrating experimental results.

  • We have built a database server called Patome which contains the annotation information for patented bio-sequences from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). The aims of the Patome are to annotate Korean patent bio-sequences and to provide information on patent relationship of public database entries. The patent sequences were annotated with Reference Sequence (RefSeq) or NCBI's nr database. The raw patent data and the annotated data were stored in the database. Annotation information can be used to determine whether a particular RefSeq ID or NCBI's nr ID is related to Korean patent. Patome infrastructure consists of three componentsthe database itself, a sequence data loader, and an online database query interface. The database can be queried using submission number, organism, title, applicant name, or accession number. Patome can be accessed at http://www.patome.net. The information will be updated every two months.

  • The database integration is being emphasized to one way of the companies collaboration. To database integration, companies are use like one database what their own, it can be provided more efficient service to customer. However, there exist some difficulty to database integration. that is the database security and database heterogeneity problems. In this paper, we proposed the MapReduce based p2p DBaaS hub system to solve database heterogeneity problem. The proposed system provides an environment for companies in the P2P cloud to integrate a database of each other. The proposed system uses DBaaS Hub for a collection of data in the P2P cloud, and use MapReduce for integrating the collected data.

  • In this study, database systems which were used to select the waterproof method according to leakage patterns of underground structures were built by performing pilot tests, reviewing literatures, and analysing the gathered data statistically. The database was built by using check lists which consisted of 5 major items and 73 subdivided items, and 26 major parameters according to 4 classified grades were determined on the base of survey which considered various in-situ conditions. The database of waterproof methods was comprised of 10 methods which were applied in Korea. From the database of waterproof methods, application ranges and design conditions of waterproof methods were suggested. From the results of study, database system consists of parameters selection database, waterproof method database, and design condition database. From the results of pilot tests, when the database of waterproof methods was applied to design stage, saving time and reducing mistakes for selecting waterproof method were gained. In addition, when the database of waterproof methods was applied to construction stage, effects such as evaluation of applicability of waterproof method, improvement of constructability and post management were expected.
