Annealing Effects on Ambipolar Characteristics of Diketopyrrolopyrrole-Based Polymer Thin-Film Transistors (Annealing 효과가 Diketopyrrolopyrrole 기반 고분자 박막 트랜지스터의 양극성 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we examine the electrical properties of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) containing polymer semiconductors that have been reported to show high performance with ambipolar characteristics. We prepared three different DPP based polymer semiconductors (PDPPTPT, PDPP3T, and PDPP2T-TT) and fabricated organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) with ambipolar polymer semiconductors as an active layer. All three DPP polymers showed only p-type properties at initial measurements. However, after annealing in vacuum oven for 24 hours, it was found that the DPP based polymers have both p-type and n-type properties. It is speculated that the residual impurities supposedly regarded as a strong electron trap source were eliminated during the vacuum process.

DNA Length Dependent Photocurrent of Diketopyrrolopyrrole Aggregates Constructed with DNA

  • Bis(2-thienyl)-diketopyrrolopyrrole having two $Zn^{II}$-cylcens (DPPCy) was synthesized. DPP-aggregates were constructed by self-organization of DPPCy and $dT_n$-DNAs. In the presence of L-ascorbic acid as an electron sacrifice reagent, the DPP aggregates immobilized on a gold electrode exhibit good anodic photocurrent responses as well as cathodic photocurrent responses in the presence of methyl viologen. The anodic photocurrent responses depend on the DNA lengths because of the formation of uniform DPP-aggregates corresponding to the DNA lengths. The present results show that photocurrent responses of the DPP-aggregates can be controlled by DNA lengths and electron sacrifice reagents.

The Study of Donor-Acceptor Chromophores and Diketopyrrolopyrrole(DPP) Analogues (Donor-Acceptor 발색단과 디케토피롤로피롤(DPP) 유도체에 관한 연구)

  • The diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) pigment is a bicyclic 8-π-electron system containing two lactam units. Typical DPP derivative pigments have melting points of over 350°C and very low solubility in most solvents, and show absorption in the visible region with a molar extinction coefficient of 33,000 dm2mol−1 and strong photoluminescence with maxima in the range 500–600 nm. X-ray structure analyses of DPP show that the whole molecule is almost in one plane. The phenyl rings are twisted out of the heterocyclic plane and the intermolecular hydrogen bonding between neighboring lactam NH and carbonyl units influences the structure of the DPP pigment in the solid state. In this study, mono-N-alkylation and mono-N-arylation were undertaken for Pigment Red 264 or Pigment Orange 73 with alkyl halide and aryl halide, respectively, in the presence of sodium tert-butoxide as a base catalyst to improve the solubility of DPP pigments and their application as CO2 indicators. The synthetic yield was in the range 11–88%. The indicator dyes are highly soluble in organic solvents and shows pH-dependent absorption (λmax 501 and 572 nm for the protonated and deprotonated forms, respectively) and emission (λmax 524 and 605 nm for the protonated and deprotonated forms, respectively) spectra. The mono-N-alkylated and mono-N-arylated DPP pigment was identified by 1H-NMR (1H-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), and MS (Mass Spectrometry). According to the results of color and hue properties obtained by a color matching analyzer, the synthesized DPP pigment material can be used as a CO2 indicator.

Pigmentation of Diketopyrrolopyrroles Compound through Solvent Thermal-treatment and Its Property (용매 열처리법을 통한 diketopyrrolopyrroles 화합물의 안료화 및 그 특성)

  • To prepare diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) red 254 pigment with high shield and bright color, DPP red 254 crude previously synthesized was treated at various thermal-treat temperature, addition derivative and ball-milling. The properties of samples were measured by the means of FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, PSA, BET surface area analyzer, viscometer and spectrophotometer. It was found that solvent thermal-treatment of the sample prepared after ball-milling as nano-scale was very effective method in pigmentation process.

Rational design of π-bridges for ambipolar DPP-RH-based small molecules in organic photovoltaic cells

  • We report the synthesis of a series of $A1-{\pi}-A2-{\pi}-A1$-type small molecules, DPP2T-RH, DPPFT-RH, and DPPT-RH, in which thiophene and furan were introduced to bridge the two strong electron-withdrawing units of DPP and rhodanine (RH). Interestingly,these DPP-RH-based small molecules exhibited ambipolar characteristics, showing photovoltaic performance both as donors and acceptors in combination with $PC_{71}BM$ and P3HT, respectively. The best power conversion efficiencies were obtained from DPPFT-RH (1.77%) and DPP2T-RH (1.28%) as donor and acceptor, respectively. Their physical properties, film packing ability, and photovoltaic performances were fine-tuned by rational design of the ${\pi}$-bridges.
