(This study consisted of elder male(n=10) and elder female(n=10),) The mean age of elder male and female was 67.20, 67.50 years. The data were analyzed with t-test, using SPSS PC+ program. Body composition was measured using Inbody 2.0(seoul, korea) of segmental multi-frequency impedance analyzer technique. IADL was measured with Philadelphia Geriatric Center IADL. The result of this study were the following: 1. The difference of Body composition 1) The %fat of elder female was significantly(p<0.05) higher than elder male by 11.48%. 2) The fat mass(kg) of elder female was significantly(p<0.05) higher than elder male by 6.28kg. 3) The free fat mass(kg) of elder male was significantly(p<0.05) higher than elder female by 9.03kg. 4) The muscle mass(kg) of elder male was significantly(p<0.05) higher than elder female by 8.63kg. 5) The WHR(%) elder female was no significantly higher than elder male by 0.03%. 6) The TBW(l) of elder male was significantly(p<0.05) higher than elder female by 6.321. The factor of significant difference of between elder male and female was %fat, fat mass(kg), free fat mass(kg), total body water(l). 2. The difference of IADL 1) IADL of elder male was no significantly higher than elder female by 1.20. As a result of this study, optimal body composition group was elder male group. Optimal body composition of elder had improved IADL. In addition to, this result of this study, it can suggested the consideration of the Health promotion program for elder.

  • Recently, child abuse is mentioned in revised Child Welfare Law, on the other hand, elder abuse is not yet recognized as a social problem and little addressed in the field of social service. Like this, elder abuse has gotten less public and professional attention than other areas within the family abuse field. Despite the lack of attention to elder abuse, the number of elder abuse reports and incidents is likely to increase in the future. Based on the recognition that current effort and approach to elder abuse is not appropriate, this study attemped to briefly review laws and programs addressing elder abuse in the United States which have shaped in other contries. In the United States where various laws and programs that address elder abuse exit, there are incresing arguments that addressing elder abuse in the area of social service rather than in the criminal justice systems is more desirable. Because the most common form of elder abuse is not physical abuse but neglect including self-neglect. Self-neglect and neglect caused by caregivers' burden can not be addressed through criminal justice systems appropriately. From these experiences of the United States, the implications for policy, programs, and practice aimed at intervening elder abuse were discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to examine the relationship between nurses' characteristics and perception of seriousness of elder abuse. Method: A cross-sectional survey design was used to describe the perception of elder abuse by 301 nurses. Data were collected by convenience sampling. The research instruments utilized in this study were 12 scenarios adapted by Yoo & Kim from the 13 senarios to measure the perception of elder abuse developed by Moon and Williams (1993), a seven item questionnaires related to elder abuse law, and a Semantic Differential Scaling to measure attitudes toward elderly people. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: The mean score for perceptions of elder abuse was 3.07. Among the types of abuse, sexual abuse was perceived as the most severe type of abuse followed by physical abuse, neglect, financial abuse, and emotional abuse in that order. Education, job position, experience of gerontological nursing course, and education on elder abuse, exposure to elder abuse information, and attitudes toward elders were significantly related to the perception of seriousness on elder abuse. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that provision of elder abuse education is needed for nurses, to enable them to identify elder abuse and address their legal and professional responsibilities.

The pathway of elder abuse affecting elder's depression was researched by passive coping, aggressive coping, verbal abuse, and neglect as the variable that directly affected depression. The pathway of elder abuse affecting somatization was researched by neglect, emotional abuse, and aggressive coping as the variables that directly affected somatization. Conclusion: We should develop a systematized intervention program so that elders can learn positive coping in their abuse circumstance.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing intention of intervening towards elder abuse among nurses in the emergency department. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used. A convenience sample of 209 emergency room nurses working in university hospitals and general hospitals completed the questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was performed to examine predictors of intention of intervening towards elder abuse. Result: Awareness of elder abuse, legal and institutional knowledge, attitude, subjective norm, and self-efficacy were positively correlated to the intention of intervening towards elder abuse. Factors of the intention of intervening towards elder abuse in emergency room nurses were awareness of elder abuse, followed by subjective norm and attitude. Conclusion: The findings suggest that it is necessary to educate emergency room nurses in order to improve awareness and knowledge of elder abuse. From the nursing practice and hospital organization level, specific interventions and strategies to increase the assessment and intervention of elder abuse are needed.

  • The oriental medicine is necessary to the development of oriental medicine diagnosis, to satisfy the Senior-Friendly. We experiment on the elderly women in 3-D mac, and carry into effect the comparative-study on the youth's pulsation. The elder pulsation's division factor are analyzed press power, w/t, h5/h1 , dispersion of period. In the press power, the elder pulsation is shallow compared with the youth's pulsation. In the w/t (pressurization time / pulsation cycle), the elder pulsation is longer compared with the youth's pulsation, In the h5/h1 (dicrotic / main peak), the elder pulsation is small compared with the youth's pulsation. In the range of dispersion of period, the elder pulsation is narrow-changed compared with the youth's pulsation. Therefore the elder pulsation is characterized by the deficiency of flexibility and injection power.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and experience of the elder mistreatment among the elderly. To achieve the purpose of this study, data were collected from 160 elders with family members through questionnaires. The major finding is that the concept on elder mistreatment of the old people is found for the most part psycological abuse or neglect. And, when the degree of family support about the elderly is high, the experience of the elder mistreament appears low. Therefore, family support may be higher to prevent elder mistreatment. Also, social support in the side economical, physical or emotional services may help to bring down the elder's disability contributing to the elder mistreatment.
