  • Fisheries resources living in inland have continuously reduced due to over-fishing and development thoughtless for the environment. Inland fisheries that target the fisheries resources have been also confronted by several problems such as insufficiency of inland fisheries management systems, inconsistent fisheries management system, inferior infrastructure of inland fisheries, and decreasing fishermen's real income. These problems have demotivated fishermen who want to focus on fishing and farming activation. Therefore, this paper provides alternatives of reorganization for turning to sound and healthy inland fisheries industries by reviewing Korean inland fisheries management systems. The reorganization should be preferentially granted resource management by water system considering geographical conditions, seed release, and establishment of fisheries order for maintenance of sound and healthy inland fisheries. Also, the reorganization should be moved toward the competitive strengthening of "company unit" for inland fisheries, the nourishment of fisher-oriented fisheries management system, strong relationship among inland fishermen, the systematic management of inland fisheries, the strengthening of guidance service for inland fisheries, the extension of infrastructure related to fisheries production, the development of inland fisheries policy including public people, and the improvement of inland fisheries system and law reflecting various users of inland fisheries.

  • Being Changed the international fisheries situation to begin the WTO, it is important to increase the international competition power in fisheries environment to related our country. One of most important work is to build the Fisheries Information Systems(FIS), FIS should give to increase the efficiency of fisheries policies, to share the fisheries informations, and to increase the competitive power of international fisheries environment. On the conclusion, this paper has four expect effects to build the FIS. First, fisheries information will be supplied the clean fisheries policies based on FIS. Second, The Data Warehouse of FIS will be contributed to improve the criterion and statistics of fisheries data. Third, Fisheries Administration will increase the service between fisheries institutes using the FIS. • I have outlined the history of Korean Fisheries Co - coperatives and its economic and noneconomic contribution to Korean Fisheries. But in order to overcome new economic world trend that is emerging now with the beginning of the WTO Korean Fisheries Co - operatives should change itself. It can be summarlized as follows. (1) The early Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was monopolized by Japanese under the Japanese colonial rule. (2) The modern Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was organized in 1962. 4. 1 by Korean government. (3) Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was weak in democratic management because of socioeconomic bad condition. (4) In spite of the dependence on the government financial aid Korean Fisheries Co - operatives has contributed to the fisheries development. (5) At the aid of the credit undertaking economic project was enlarged greatly, (6) With the close of the UR talks we cannot but open out fisheries market. So we are in condition that must enforce out fisheries compatability. especially, \circled1 Improvement of fisheries structure to enlarge management scale \circled2 Increase of productivity in fishing ground \circled3 The continuous endeavour to positive marine resourses making (7) Reorganization of fisheries, for example fisheries system or fisheries structure (8) Reexamination of the organization and operation of Korean Fisheries Co - operatives. And taking a proper step to improve their weak points. (9) The strengthening of the activity of investigation and study in centural Fisheries Co - operatives (10) It needs a special study to establish a few target or object in the management of Fisheries Co - operatives. When we could solve these ones mentioned above our fisheries will develop again.

  • We investigated the reproductive characteristics of Lycodes tanakae in the coastal waters of the middle East Sea to elucidate the species' population structure. We investigated Lycodes tanakae maturation and spawning based on samples collected by Danish seine and gill nets from January 2012 to December 2013. We analyzed monthly changes in maturity stage, gonadosomatic index (GSI), egg diameter, fecundity, and total length at 50% group maturity. The spawning period was December to February, while fecundity ranged from 1,677 eggs at 57.3 cm (total length;TL) to 6,445 eggs at 75.7 cm. The relationship between TL and fecundity (F) was $F_e=6E-05TL^{3.127}$ ($R^2$ = 0.516), and F increased with increasing TL. We estimated the TL at 50% group maturity as 60.4 cm for females and 59.8 cm for males. This study is the first report of Lycodes tanakae reproductive characteristics in the coastal waters of the middle East Sea.

  • Age and growth of Glyptocephalus stelleri in the East Sea of Korea were determined, from monthly samples of commercial catches, caught by the eastern sea Danish seine fishery in 2007. The annuli of G. stelleri are formed once a year, with the boundary between opaque and translucent zones forming in September. Relationships between total length (TL) and total weight (TW) were $TW=0.002TL^{3.392}$ ($r^2=0.970$) for females and $TW=0.002TL^{3.335}$ ($r^2=0.961$) for males. TLs at annuli formation in otoliths were back-calculated from the otolith-length relationship and were adjusted to von Bertalanffy growth curves to $L_t=39.71(1-{\exp}^{(-0.152(t+1.156))})$ for females and $L_t=32.16(1-{\exp}^{(-0.213(t+0.879))})$ for males. From the age of 3 years, females grew faster than males (P<0.05).

  • We describe two penaeoid shrimp, Hymenopenaeus equalis and Metapenaeus ensis, that were collected from an area northwest of Jeju Island and are new to Korean waters. Hymenopenaeus equalis is the first Korean representative of this genus. A brief distributional and morphological description of the two species is provided.

  • In spite of the importance of a fishing industry, neither any terminology defined in details nor academic systems to educate the workers in the fishery were established in the fisheries social education. The fisheries social education was considered to be the practical area around the actual fields. Therefore, on-site education was very important. Accordingly, this study collected and analyzed theoretical basis of a social education and data on the rural adult education and examined the actual status of the fishing industry in Korea and fisheries extension services enterprise and fisheries developmental enterprise corresponding to the actual fisheries social education conducted in Korea. On the basis of these frames, this study summarized the direction for the progress of fisheries social education that has not been studied until now for the purpose of suggesting the future directions of the fisheries social education as follows; The recognition on the importance of fisheries social education and fundamental researches in the fisheries social education should be extended. The practical development of fisheries social education should be realized. Fisheries extension services enterprise should be evolved by fishermen. The abilities of instructors in the fisheries social education should be improved. The academic factors in the fisheries social education should be emphasized. Inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches should be adopted. Various programs should be developed for the progress of the fisheries social education. The exclusive department in charge of the fisheries social education should be established. The information system for the fisheries social education should be secured. The industry, academic organizations and the organs should make cooperation. The fisheries social education should be provided by general social education institutions for the progress. The fisheries development should be deployed on the basis of environmental preservation. It is necessary to deploy the new fishing village movement like the Saemaul movement to the fisheries. The administrative and financial supports for the fisheries social education should be expanded. It is essential to cultivate the future fishermen for the international competitiveness.

  • Two penaeoid shrimps, Hadropenaeus lucasii (Bate, 1881) and Sicyonia truncata (Kubo, 1949), were collected from the northeastern waters of Jeju Island, Korea. These represent the only Korean reports of a member of the genus Hadropenaeus, family Solenoceridae and of a member of family Sicyonidae, respectively. Morphological descriptions and illustrations with a color photograph of each species are given. Korean Penaeoidea presently includes 27 species in three families.
